We chose Plymouth so we could explore it’s numerous historic sites and because of it’s proximity to other attractions/cities. It’s only about 40 miles away from Boston, 19 miles from the start of Cape Cod and only about an hour away from the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard! We stayed at Pinewood Lodge, a wonderful campground with a State Park feel, large pull-through sites and a lot of amenities.

Soak it up - guide to the Beaches State Beach
State Beach is located between the towns of Oak Bluffs and Edgartown along the vineyard sound shoreline and is a very popular beach for families due to the gradual slope, warmer water, and calm surf. Parking can be tough and on an average summer day will fill up by 10 am. There are lifeguards at the Edgartown end of the beach known as Bend in the road beach for obvious reasons. Accessible by a bicycle path that runs its entire length, state beach is a favorite path for cyclists and joggers. One of the most popular activities in summer is to take a jump off of Big Bridge also known as the JAW's bridge for its appearance in the film.

5 Best American Road Trips
5 Best American Road Trips
#5. Pacific Coast Highway, WA – CA
Starting up in Washington, this drive takes you down the coast — literally. The Olympic State Park is your starting point, and you can watch the waves break almost the entire way down to the border of Mexico. The rocky cliffs and green forests of Washington and Oregon give way to sandy beaches and forsaken deserts farther south. You’ll also drive through some of the most diverse cities in the US — Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle and San Diego, just to name a few.
#4. Route 66
This road is more than a road — for Americans, its classic cars, James Dean and the sweet smell of nostalgia. The miles of this trip are marked with classic diners, old school shops and towns that time seems to have forgotten. Check out Meramec Caverns in Missouri, and take a dip in the Colorado River. Let yourself be swept back to a simpler time on this American classic of a road.
#3. The Oregon Trail
Tracking from Oregon to Massachusetts, the Oregon Trail is a look back in time. Start off on the rugged coast of Oregon, and head east. You’ll have the option to stop at numerous sites, including Mount Rushmore, the Great Lakes and even Niagara Falls. Don’t stop there, though — continue on and end your journey of a lifetime with Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod and some of the best lobster in the USA.
#2. Overseas Highway, FL
For some of the best seafood around, and some of the best views of your life, you can’t miss a trek through the Florida Keys. Starting south of Miami, this one way trip takes you far out into the ocean, skipping across islands like a stone skips on water. Heading into Key Largo gives you a taste of the island life, when suddenly, the land disappears and you drive for miles over nothing but water.
#1. Maui’s Hana Coast, HI
At only 52 miles long, you wouldn’t think the Hana Coast in Hawaii would be much of a road trip. However, the winding road requires slow driving and frequent stops. The hairpin turns can put drivers and passengers on edge, so stopping often is recommended — not only for the fruit, but also to allow the car sickness to wear off.

Places we are visiting:-
Cape Cod is a geographic cape extending into the Atlantic Ocean from the southeastern corner of mainland Massachusetts, in the northeastern United States. It's historic, maritime character and ample beaches attract heavy tourism during the summer months.
Nobska Light, originally called Nobsque Light, also known as Nobska Point Light is a lighthouse located at the division between Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound in Woods Hole, Massachusetts on the southwestern tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It overlooks Martha's Vineyard and Nonamesset Island. The light station was established in 1826, with the tower protruding above the keeper's house, and was replaced in 1876 by the current 42-foot tall iron tower. The light station was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Nobska Point Light Station in 1987.
Boston (pronounced Listeni/ˈbɒstən/ boss-tən) is the capital and most populous city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. Boston is also the seat of Suffolk County, although the county government was disbanded on July 1, 1999. The city proper covers 48 square miles (124 km2) with an estimated population of 667,137 in 2015, making it the largest city in New England and the 23rd most populous city in the United States. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area known as Greater Boston, a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) home to a census-estimated 4.7 million people in 2014 and ranking as the tenth-largest such area in the country.
The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile-long (4.0 km) path through downtown Boston, Massachusetts that passes by 16 locations significant to the history of the United States. Marked largely with brick, it winds between Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. Stops along the trail include simple explanatory ground markers, graveyards, notable churches and buildings, and a historic naval frigate.
Boston Common (also known as the Common) is a central public park in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. It is sometimes erroneously referred to as the Boston Commons. Dating from 1634, it is the oldest city park in the United States. The Boston Common consists of 50 acres (20 ha) of land bounded by Tremont Street, Park Street, Beacon Street, Charles Street, and Boylston Street. The Common is part of the Emerald Necklace of parks and parkways that extend from the Common south to Franklin Park in Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and Dorchester. A visitors' center for all of Boston is located on the Tremont Street side of the park.
The Massachusetts State House, also known as the Massachusetts Statehouse or the New State House, is the state capitol and seat of government for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, located in the Beacon Hill/Downtown neighborhood of Boston.
Castle Island is located on Day Boulevard in South Boston on the shore of Boston Harbor. It has been the site of a fortification since 1634. Castle Island was connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land in 1928 and is thus no longer an island. It is currently a 22-acre (8.9 ha) recreation site and the location of Fort Independence.
The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by several cities in greater Boston in eastern Massachusetts, United States. It is always held on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April. Begun in 1897, inspired by the success of the first marathon competition in the 1896 Summer Olympics, the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's best-known road racing events.

WEST TISBURY, MA- Fatal Cape Air Plane Crash (09-27-08)
WEST TISBURY -- Investigators are trying to determine what caused a double-engine plane to crash last night shortly after 8 p.m., killing the pilot.
David Willey, 61, of Vineyard Haven, was the only person on board the Cape Air flight and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the state police.
The Cape Air nine-passenger plane left Martha's Vineyard Airport en route to Boston when it crashed in the area of Nip and Tuck Lane in West Tisbury, according to a preliminary investigation by state Trooper David Parent.
The National Transportation Safety Board had not arrived on the Vineyard as of 11:30 this morning, but West Tisbury police, state police and airport personnel were on the scene.
Nip and Tuck Lane is about two miles from the airport. Some neighbors said they heard the sound of the plane crash last night, describing it as a loud boom.
The wreckage cannot be seen from the road, and is in a secluded, well-forested area.
The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the Massacusetts Aeronautics Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration.
