Glen Ellen, CA ~ Smothers Ranch
Located on a country road in the heart of Jack London Wine Country, is the private 100+/- acre ranch and beloved homestead of comedy legend, Tom Smothers. The approach to the home is through a gated entry and paved drive with views wending past natural rock walls, rows of mature vines, a pond and open fields. Purchased over 40 years ago, Smothers and his family have created a bespoke estate compound with hilltop residence, barns, ponds and outbuildings surrounded by a flourishing Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, meadows, oaks and expansive views. A large pool area, covered verandas and patios, garden areas and putting green provide endless opportunities for relaxation, recreation and entertaining. Olives can be harvested from your own orchard and, for the equestrian, horses can easily be accommodated.
Anchoring the estate is the 23+/- acre organically-farmed Smothers-Remick Ridge vineyard, located in the Sonoma Mountain AVA. It is named for his maternal grandfather and the pride and joy of Smothers himself. The attention to detail and challenging work required to achieve organic status is a testament to Tom’s commitment to quality and the environment. The grapes are professionally managed and sold exclusively to a renowned winery.
Gorgeous lawns, brick patios and mature olive trees surround the unique, custom-crafted residence with stone walls, metal roof and large windows to embrace the views. A large great room with concrete brick and wood floors, reclaimed beam adorned ceilings and floor-to-ceiling stone Rumford fireplace adjoins the dining area, island kitchen and breakfast room. Multiple sets of glass doors provide access to delightful covered brick patios and the pool. A well-appointed master suite with two full baths and the guest wing on this floor are separated by a den with built-ins and picture windows. The lower level is comprised of a large playroom and spacious walk-in wine cellar. Additionally, there is a detached studio and two barns with unique work/live spaces.
Infrastructure includes a paved driveway, custom gate, fencing, a strong well with water storage and two ponds provide vineyard irrigation.
As a full-time residence or second home destination, this is a unique opportunity to own a legacy estate and live the wine country dream. Located close to historic towns, state and regional parks, dining and restaurants. About an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge, convenient to Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport.

Welcome to Kunde Family Winery
For over a century, five generations of the Kunde Family have farmed our 1,850 acre-estate in the heart of Sonoma Valley—a truly remarkable legacy in the modern age of California winemaking. A fervent, forward-thinking vision of land stewardship and sustainability began over one hundred years ago, and has been shaped with each successive generation.
Today, Kunde Family Winery is still family owned and operated with a hands-on team of 4th and 5th generation family members at the helm. At the end of the day, every decision we make, every wine we craft, and every experience we provide honors the legacy of founder Louis Kunde, who emigrated from Germany and purchased the original Wildwood Vineyards ranch at the turn of the century in 1904. Cresting the second century was a profound milestone for the family. Moving forward, we remain committed to innovation and state-of-the-art facilities, while also maintaining a deep, personal commitment to sustainable winegrowing and preserving the land for generations to come, naturally!

Karen Brown's Beltane Ranch, Glen Ellen, California
The Beltane Ranch in the town of Glen Ellen, California
It is hard not to notice Beltane Ranch, a pale-yellow board-and-batten house encircled on both stories by broad verandahs, set on the hillside off the Valley of the Moon Road.
Check in at the cozy country kitchen when you arrive: if no one is around, you will find a welcome note on the chalkboard hung by the back door.
The house has no internal staircase, so each room has a private entrance off the verandah—which was probably very handy when this was the weekend retreat of a San Francisco madam.
Incidentally, this also explains the southern architecture of the house as madam hailed from Louisiana.
The bedrooms, decorated in family antiques, have a very comfortable ambiance.
Chairs and hammocks are placed on the verandah outside each room and offer a wonderful spot to settle and enjoy peaceful countryside views beyond the well-tended garden.
A small yellow cottage behind the main house with more contemporary decor enjoys a snug sitting room opening to a private patio and has breakfast delivered into its silent butler.
Beltane produces two varieties of wine grapes as well as its own olive oil.
For the energetic, there are local walking trails and a tennis court. Beltane Ranch continues to remain a personal favorite.

Located in the San Francisco Bay area in southeastern Sonoma County is the Valley considered the birthplace of the California wine industry. The Sonoma Valley runs from Santa Rosa in the north to the San Pablo Bay in the south. Formed between the Mayacamas Mountains and Sonoma Mountains, Sonoma Valley was home to the earliest California Vineyards which survived both the phylloxera epidemic of the 1870s and the effects of 20th century prohibition.
Today along with being the home to over 100 wineries, The Valley plays host to events year-round. Along with historic wineries Sonoma Valley encompasses many other historic sites including the Jack London State Historic Park which preserves the land that Jack London called home. Visiting the Sonoma Valley includes hot springs resorts, historical buildings, and the history of the settlement of California by the missionaries.
The vineyards of the Sonoma Valley are as varied as the tastes of its wine. Award winning wines from Sonoma are made in wineries that include castles, Mediterranean influenced villas, garden chateaus and modern lounges. Grand estates, quaint wine cellars and subterranean caves are all a part of the winery tour experience in Sonoma Valley.
A proper tour of the Sonoma Valley begins on the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley. Whether you are a seasoned wine enthusiast, a novice, a sommelier or a history buff the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley offers an informative overview of the valley during a fun, friendly, relaxing, care free day.
The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is a six-hour adventure aboard a replica California cable car. Your hand-built cable car is based on the original blueprints from the San Francisco cable cars that were in operation from the 1890s through the 1930s. It is an all wooden carriage detailed right down to the brass bell. The modern conveniences of the day have been added including a state-of-the-art sound system and PA, along with connections for iPod and iPhone. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is an open-air cable car that lets you experience a panoramic view as you visit four of the world class wineries of The Valley.
Your conductor on the guided Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley will explain the history, legacies, and folklore as you travel the green valley from vineyard to vineyard. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is a group friendly event that encourages making new friends along the way.
The day on the Wine Trolley includes a catered picnic lunch prepared by the Girl & the Fig Restaurant, noted for their country French cuisine, a visit to four selected wineries for a taste of the treasures of Sonoma and a day of knowledgeable adventure. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley departs from Sonoma Plaza at 10:30 AM and returns at 4:30 PM. You must be 21 years old to purchase a ticket for the exclusive wine tasting adventures aboard the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley.
Along with the historical education, laughs and priceless views the Trolley tour visits four wineries. Winery visits on the tour vary because of seasonal and special events happening on certain days, the tour will always include a visit to four premium wineries for a semi-private tasting. Winery tasting fees are separate, ranging from $20-$30 per vineyard.
Wineries are selected for daily tours from the list of twelve regularly visited by the tour conductors of the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley. The selected wineries are chosen to provide visitors with a general overview of the Sonoma Valley Wine experience. Each of the chosen wineries offer a unique vineyard property and premium vintages. The list includes:
