Ivan Lins live at the Berklee Performance Center
Ivan Lins has had many successes as a singer and composer. The most-recorded Brazilian artist living abroad, he began playing piano at age 18 and was very influenced by music he heard in his childhood in the United States: jazz and bossa nova. Lins joined Berklee students on October 26, 2011 for a live concert in the Berklee Performance Center.
Lins won two Latin Grammy Awards in 2005 for Album of the Year and Best MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) Album for Cantando Histórias. He is the first and only Brazilian artist to win the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year. In 2009, he was nominated for three Latin Grammys for his album Regência: Vince Mendoza with the Metropole Orchestra, winning the award for Best MPB Album.
He recorded several albums for EMI Brasil and Reprise, and wrote many Brazilian standards such as Love Dance (Lembrança), which has been covered by Barbra Streisand, George Benson, Diane Schuur, and many others; Começar de Novo; and Velas Içadas. His music has been recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Sting, Betty Carter, Nancy Wilson, James Blood Ulmer, Patti Austin, Lee Ritenour, Terence Blanchard, Sérgio Mendes, and Michael Bublé, to name just a few.

In Vienna in 1904, two women are on the brink of independence, and the notorious artist Gustav Klimt is driven to capture them both. Inspired by the sensual portraits of Gustav Klimt, this world premiere musical answers the question, Who is the woman in The Kiss? with a Berklee College of Music cast.
Book and lyrics by Cheryl Coons and music by Peter Eldridge, a professor in Berklee's Voice Department; directed by Rene Pfister, an assistant director in the Voice Department and coordinator of Musical Theater at Berklee.

NEW FROM VIC FIRTH: THE ED SAINDON VIBRAPHONE & MARIMBA MALLET (M38)
We just finalized the design for my new signature model mallet by Vic Firth. The mallet features a weighted core, two varying layers of latex and tightly wrapped thin yarn. I was looking to create an all purpose mallet for vibes and marimba that sounded good from playing solo to performing with a band. The mallet creates a very big sound, sounds fat and round while still retaining clarity at all dynamic levels. For more information, please go here:

Yanina is a sultry and soulful singer-songwriter and music business major from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her influences include Lauryn Hill, Lalah Hathaway, Esperanza Spalding, Beyoncé, and Lianne La Havas.
She received voice lessons at a young age, encouragement from her parents, inspiration from popular hip-hop music such as Eminem’s “Mockingbird,” and discipline to develop into a well-rounded artist. Yanina, currently working on a yet-to-be-titled EP, blends a powerhouse voice with dancing ability and a striking presence on stage.
Because of the lack of representation in the entertainment industry, Yanina has started an all-women’s artist collective called SheReins. The growing Boston-based collective has performed at multiple venues across Europe. Through this collective and with her original music, Yanina hopes to bring awareness to social and political injustices, and touch upon the truths that many face in life.

Larry Harlow live at the Berklee Performance Center
On November 18, 2010, Larry Harlow performed with a Berklee student group produced by Oscar Stagnaro and conducted by Matt Nicholl. Heard here is Rumbambola, Quitate La Mascara, Tutti de Frutti, and Yo Soy Latino.
Larry Harlow is a living legend of Afro-Cuban music. Though jazz and the piano stylings of Art Tatum were the first loves of this Brooklyn native, the music and culture of the New York Latino community fascinated him. After graduating from the famed LaGuardia High School of Music and Art, he traveled to Cuba in the late 1950s and began a two-year adventure studying Afro-Cuban music in all its manifestations. On his return to New York he quickly made a name for himself as a top bandleader and was signed by the new Fania record company.
El Judio Maravilloso, as he is affectionately called, revolutionized what is known today as salsa, developing the explosive sound of the early-'70s bands. He studied audio engineering at the Institute of Audio Research and produced over 260 albums for Fania alone. Harlow is also the producer/pianist for the legendary Fania All-Stars, which spread clave consciousness the world over. He coproduced, wrote music for, and starred in Our Latin Thing and Salsa, two of the definitive documentaries on Afro-Cuban music in New York City. In 2003, Harlow's Latin Jazz Encounter released the album Live at Birdland, beginning a new phase in his career. He is currently touring with his new Latin Legends Band.
As a governor of the New York chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Harlow emphasized the role of Latin musicians. He received the Grammy Trustees Award in 2008 and was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
