The Museum of Natural History in Berlin offers you an exciting insight into the natural world. Follow the development of life on our planet, and discover how different forms of life evolve. Be astonished by prehistoric animals, birds and the legendary polar bear Knut. Or look back into the genesis of the universe. One highlight is encountering the world's largest dinosaur skeleton, a colossal 13.27 metre tall Brachiosaurus. Even more spectacular is Tristan Otto, a gigantic Tyrannosaurus Rex. In the special exhibition Tristan - Berlin bares teeth, you encounter a 66 million-year-old and 12 metre long dinosaur skeleton, one of the best preserved specimens in the world. The skull alone, with its fearsome teeth, measures 1.5 metres. But there are many more exciting exhibits, so you'll want to take your time when exploring.
The Museum of Natural History has a long history of its own. In 1889, Kaiser Wilhelm II opens the building on Invalidenstraße. With its powerful pillars and large stature, the Wilhelmian building looks like a palace. Upon entering the central villagers' yard, you are welcomed by a dinosaur who leads you on a tour of the dinosaur museum. Engage with interactive exhibits about the former rulers of our planet. Futuristic virtual reality exhibits reawaken these formidable animals, bringing them to life before your eyes. But be sure to explore the other exhibition halls which each focus on a different theme. Particularly rewarding are the so-called 'wet collections'. These are housed in the East Wing, a state-of-the-art building that has been restored in 2010. A total of 276,000 glass jars filled with 81,880 litres of alcohol line 12.6 km of shelves in this dramatic space. Fish, spiders, crabs, amphibians and mammals are conserved here. Gaze at the fascinating and curious objects behind the glass. In the exhibition Highlights of the Art of Preservation, you can get up close with animals such as Bobby the gorilla and Knut the polar bear. Thanks to the latest techniques and the artistic abilities of the preservationists, the objects seem to be alive still.
For those with an interest in science, there is another great museum just around the corner: the Medical History Museum is located on the grounds of the Berlin University Hospital. Just cross Invalidenstraße - from here you are only a few steps away. Discover the permanent exhibition Life on the Trail, looking at over 300 years of medical history. Gallery 36 is also just minutes away from the Museum of Natural History and houses works by national and international photographers. A few hundred metres to the east is Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin's premier museum for contemporary art. Located in a former train station, this collection impresses with its outstanding modern and contemporary art pieces, and world-class special exhibitions. To get to the New Berlin Kunstverein n.b.k., just follow Chausseestraße south. Alternatively, take underground line U6 to Oranienburger Tor. This contemporary art association dates back to 1969, being one of the first art lending libraries in Germany.

ART/NATURE Conference Berlin: Artists' Views and Museum Narratives..., Thomas Schnalke
The presentation Artists' Views and Museum Narratives: Art Interventions in the Berlin Museum of Medical History at the Charité by Thomas Schnalke was part of the international conference Art/Nature. Contemporary Art in Natural History Museums and Collections in Berlin on the 26th and 27th of June 2017, organized by the project Kunst/Natur with artistic interventions at the Museum for Naturkunde Berlin: ‘Opening new perspectives’, ‘moving natural history museums’, ‘creating a space for poetry in science’, ‘mediating difficult legacies’ – the purposes and motivations for a collaboration between contemporary art and natural history museums are as manifold as the approaches and experiences of the different protagonists and actors involved, including the museum’s visitors. The conference outlined recent and ongoing art projects and art programmes in natural history museums and in the natural history collections of multidisciplinary museums. In doing so, it aimed to reflect upon and discuss the mutual expectations, potentials, possible limitations and values of these kinds of interactions and interventions from the perspectives of curators, artists and researchers.

There's no other location in Berlin with such a commanding view of the whole city and one thing that really struck me was the difference in architecture between the old East and West of the city. The tower can be seen from almost every point in the city, and even in the suburbs and it's a must for anyone visiting Berlin to pop up the tower, maybe have a quick drink, enjoy the views or even sit in the rotating restaurant and enjoy a meal. It's absolutely brilliant. Our next quick excursion was out to the East Side Gallery of the old Berlin Wall to have a look at some of the fantastic artwork that's still being added to today. So guys, I don't know if you can hear me or not, I haven't got my microphone on, only the onboard mike just there, so we're now down at the East Side Gallery which is part of the Berlin Wall and now it is used by artists to commemorate what happened in the GDR, the people who tried to leave, um, the East German country I guess, through this wall, so it's really cool. The gallery consists of 105 paintings by artists from all over the world, and the association for the artists involved in the project say the East Side Gallery is understood as a monument to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the peaceful negotiation of borders and conventions between societies and people. Therefore, not every piece of artwork that's on the wall is directly related to what happened here. That's approximately eight times higher than the top of the Fernsehturm tower. I would've been pooing myself. The museum documented loads of other escape attempts, one of them being another really interesting aerial one where two brothers hatched a plan to save their brother, Egbert. They learned to fly, painted two ultra light planes with Soviet star red stars, flew down to the Treptower park picked up their brother, flew back over the Berlin Wall, and then finally landed in front of the Reichstag. The different forms of methods and escapes are as wide and varied as the people who attempted them. And looking at photos of Checkpoint Charlie in the past, and actually standing in Checkpoint Charlie now in the present, it's important to remember that many people died trying to cross the Berlin Wall and also the inner German border. Possibly the most well known was bricklayer Peter Fechter, who with his friend Gunther in 1962, tried to cross the Berlin Wall. The young Peter who was a bricklayer was shot in the hip in full view of journalists and cilvilians in the West who were powerless to help him. Despite Peter's screams, he received no medical assistance from the East German side and could not be tended by anyone on the West. The West Berlin police threw him bandages, which he could not reach and he bled to death after approximately one hour. He was 18. After German reunification in 1990, a memorial was constructed for Peter Fechter at the precise spot where he had died on the Eastern side. His memorial cross was part of an installation at Checkpoint Charlie commemorating those who died trying to cross the wall, along with a permanent memorial to Peter on Zimmerstrasse, in German in reads, He just wanted freedom. Today the route where the Berlin Wall once ran, is commemorated by cobbles and plaques zig-zagging throughout the city. And in my next video from Berlin, I'll be investigating the Stasi, Eric Mielke, and Hohenschönhausen prison. Possibly the epicentre for East German repression in Berlin. Sorry to end this vlog on a slightly down note guys, but I love to tell you about history and this stuff did happen, so if it piques your interest to check it out a little bit more, then really that's all I want to achieve. Please hit that like button, please comment on the video. I'll see you in our next video from Berlin and please do hit that subscribe button. Thanks ever so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video.

Revelation 2.12 to 2.13
To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. I know where you live--where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city--where Satan lives.

GERMANY - ADOLF HITLER'S MUSEUM
An unsolved mystery since the end of the Second World War. Now, 65 years on, Dresden's museum of prints is asking where their own works come from. A thousand of their prints and 400 drawings had been earmarked for Adolf Hitler's museum. The Fuehrer wanted to create the world's largest collection of art in the Austrian city of Linz.

BODY WORLDS & The Art of Plastination (English/Français)
Plastination was invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens in 1977 at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. It is a unique process that stops the decomposition of the dead body and produces solid, odorless and durable anatomical specimens for scientific and medical training.
In principle Plastination is relatively simple:
1. Embalming and Anatomical Dissection: The first step of the process involves halting decay by pumping formalin into the body through the arteries. Formalin kills all bacteria and chemically stops the decay of tissue. Using dissection tools, the skin, fatty and connective tissues are removed in order to prepare the individual anatomical structures.
2. Removal of Body Fat and Water: In the first step, the body water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a solvent bath (e.g., an acetone bath).
3. Forced Impregnation: This second exchange process is the central step in Plastination. During forced impregnation a reactive polymer, e.g., silicone rubber, replaces the acetone. To achieve this, the specimen is immersed in a polymer solution and placed in vacuum chamber. The vacuum removes the acetone from the specimen and helps the polymer to penetrate every last cell.
4. Positioning: After vacuum impregnation, the body is positioned as desired. Every single anatomical structure is properly aligned and fixed with the help of wires, needles, clamps, and foam blocks.
5. Curing (Hardening): In the final step, the specimen is hardened. Depending on the polymer used, this is done with gas, light, or heat. Dissection and Plastination of an entire body requires about 1,500 working hours and normally takes about one year to complete.

Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Designpanoptikum
Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Designpanoptikum
All kinds of oddities await you at the DesignPanopticon – Museum for bizarre objects on Torstrasse in Berlin-Mitte. Here you can find unusual objects spread out before you. Among the more than 3,000 strange-looking industrial objects are dentist chairs, prosthesis, lamps and shop window mannequins. The arrangements of the artefacts provide for creative interpretations. This museum is intended to astonish visitors, making you constantly ask “What in the world is that?”
For decades, Vlad Korneev of Moscow collects old medical devices, unusual industrial objects and everyday things. He finds most of these at local flea markets or in the city's cellars, and saves them for posterity. Today, they are exhibited in his DesignPantotikum. The museum is located in a DDR-Plattenbau building. Behind its grey façade, the strange objects make for a colourful and confusing collection. But the exhibition is not as arbitrary as it seems at first glance. The creative concept is well thought out. Having said this, there is no such thing as a description for these objects: Korneev wants visitors to go on a voyage of discovery, and the objects should speak for themselves. The exhibition looks like a huge installation of everyday objects and technical innovations of the past. For example, you'll find strange vehicles, protective suits and even a cat submarine. As you enter you ask: what is the function of these objects, and what era are they from? Both logic and imagination are required here.
The best wrong answers are collected on a “best-of” list. Some answers are a little scary: for example, the iron lung – a ventilation machine that works more like a metal coffin. The ingenious lighting with design lamps also creates an surreal atmosphere. The rooms themselves are also a curiosity: on the walls you can still see the characters of a former Chinese and GDR restaurant.
