BERMUDA RAILWAY TRAIL
This stretch of the Bermuda Railway Walking Trail is near Bailey's Bay. The footbridge that spans the old concrete railway pylons was opened on December 13, 2014. Of the original 22 mile Somerset-Hamilton-St. George's railway line that served Bermuda from 1931 to 1948, 18 miles have been turned into a walking trail.

How to Bike Across Bermuda
A small country, Bermuda is only 22 miles from end to end, so it's easy to miss off-the-beaten path places when traveling by car or scooter. But there's another way to travel across the island that many visitors and even locals overlook. Hop on a bike!

July 12, 2016 finally took a ride which started in Somerset Village, to the Royal Naval Dockyard to St George and then ride on the Railway trail back to Somerset. Now I can say I bike all the way across a country.

What used to be a railway track once, is now converted into a fantastic walking and cycling trail in Bermuda.
In 1948 the Bermuda government closed down the railways as they thought it was no longer required. And in 1984 they transformed this into a fantastic trail for visitors and Bermudians who love nature, walking and cycling.

Sentier du Chemin de Fer - Baie de Bailey - Paroisse d'Hamilton - Bermudes
Coordonnées GPS: 32°21'02.0N 64°43'20.7W
Le sentier du chemin de fer des Bermudes comprend plusieurs sections. Il s'étend sur tout près de 27 km.
Il emprunte le tracé du chemin de fer qui a été en opération jusqu'en 1948 et il comporte différents niveaux. Il est accessible aux randonneurs ainsi qu'aux cyclistes.
Certaines sections longent le littoral tandis que d'autres passent à travers des forêts et près de sites historiques.
Nous avons fait une petite randonnée sur le tronçon qui part de la baie de Bailey. Une passerelle surplombant cette baie offre une magnifique vue de ce secteur.
On y retrouve une belle petite plage et les eaux sont d'une limpidité incroyable.
Cette partie du sentier longe le littoral. On y découvre des rochers escarpés aux multiples formes. L'eau est tellement claire que l'on peut facilement apercevoir les poissons qui nagent à proximité de la côte.
Nous avons même découvert une immense grotte cachée derrière un muret qui a été érigé le long d'une falaise.

History of Bermuda Railway
The Bermuda Railway Train nicknamed the “Old Rattle and Shake,” operated for 17 years between October 31, 1931 to May 1, 1948. When the railway was discontinued, its bridges and trestles were removed and sold, However today old structures and concrete pillars in the sea provide an insightful view of history and national heritage of pride. The photos reflect both the passage of time and the progression of the islands public transportation and motorized vehicles. The old rail houses tells a story of when there were few developed safe roads and Bermudians used traditional horse drawn wagons, bicycles, boats, and walked.
