Special thank you to Made for driving us around!
Bali is an amazing place to eat - there are so many incredible dishes, and the unique Balinese culture paired with the food is what makes it so special. In this Indonesian street food tour of Bali, I’m taking you to 6 street food stalls / restaurants in a row, for serious food lovers!
Warung Nasi Bali Men Weti - Some consider this legendary stall, right along the ocean to be the best Balinese local street food spot in Denpasar, Bali, and after eating it, there’s absolutely no room for argument. The plate of food you’ll be served is nothing short of spectacular, full of Balinese flavor.
Price - 25,000 IDR ($1.83) per plate
Warung Mak Beng - Known for their fried fish set, Warung Mak Beng is another legendary Balinese restaurant. Their fish was amazing, both the fish head soup and the fried fish, and not forgetting their amazing sambal. Another must eat when you’re in Bali.
Price - 45,000 IDR ($3.29) per set
Sate Plecing Arjuna - This is a place you come to eat sate plecing, a type of Indonesian street food sate that’s covered in a shrimp paste chili sambal. They were incredibly delicious as well, especially the samel.
Total price - 68,000 IDR ($4.98)
Sate Babi Bawah Pohon - In Bali, pork is very common, and this is probably one of the most well known Indonesian street food stalls in all of Bali. For me the pork sate was a little on the sweet side, however it was still pretty tasty.
Price - 25,000 IDR ($1.83)
Babi Guling Pak Dobiel - When it comes to Balinese food, there’s nothing more famous to try than babi guling, Balinese style roast pig served with all the side dishes. It’s spectacular combination and you’ll find dozens of restaurants serving babi guling. In this Balinese food tour I went to Babi Guling Pak Dobiel, and it’s the best plate of babi guling I had in Bali.
Total price - 100,000 IDR ($7.32) for 2
Warung Kintamani - Ubud - Finally, to finish off this Balinese food tour, we headed back to Ubud and Made, took me to eat mujair nyatnyat, tilapia in a curry sauce. It was awesome delicious, a perfect way to end this Indonesian street food tour of Bali.
Total price - 105,000 IDR ($7.68) for 3

Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible.
Our AirbnB in Seminyak didn't have much food around it, but we managed to find a little local restaurant that serves breakfast. It was a delicious meal. We rode our bikes to Kuta Beach later and enjoyed some coconuts after Then the skies unleashed and we had to stay home and cooked ourselves a random dinner from the convenience store.

=== DISCLAIMER! AUSSIE! AUSSIE! OI! ===
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION PROVIDED AS IS AND IS NOT TO BE TAKEN AS 100% ACCURATE TRAVEL ADVICE AND THE PEOPLE SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO ARE NOT NECESSARILY BOGAN. VIRGIN AIRLINES MAY OR MAY NOT OFFER BINTANG BOGAN BONZER IN BALI DEALS. USE OF COMIC SANS MS FONT IS FOR IRONY BUT I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK ANYWAY ESPECIALLY IF YOUR BOGAN AND DIDNT SEE THIS GRAMMATICAL ERROR. PLEASE DONT SUE ME I ALREADY HAVE TO PAY BACK CENTRELINK FOR FRAUD
=== What is Bali? ===
It is the largest tourist destination in Indonesia and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. Bali, a tourist haven for decades, has seen a further surge in tourist numbers in recent years ... particularly for the rise in popularity of Bintang, a beer.
=== The Beer. ===
Bintang Beer (Indonesian: Bir Bintang, literally Star Beer) is the best selling brand of beer in Indonesia and is produced by Multi Bintang, an Indonesian subsidiary of Heineken. The 4.7 per cent Pilsner has a malt and hop flavour and the remaining 95.3% is made from the blood of the critically endangered Bali Starling. Its taste is often compared to Heineken and of mysteriously left behind half filled bottles of effervescent amber fluids lying around near curbs and bus stops.
=== The Bogan Pilgrimage ===
Tourism produces the GDP's largest output with millions of Bintang Bogan tourists from Australia coming to Bali for the bi-annual Hoon pilgrimage. It is the first pillar of Boganism, a religious duty that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Bogan who can afford to do so -- with Virgin's Bintang Bogan Bonzer in Bali deal at $99 two ways Bogans are now without excuse. The Hoon piligrimages do not occur at fixed dates but rather set to the end of the AFL season and schoolies. For the former, the Hoon pilgrimage is dominated by AFL players who are respected as Moolahs who offer sacrifices at the Bogan Temples (Nightclubs) by drinking large amounts of Bintang and then spewing it onto the altar (toilet) where they then lay down prostating themselves in the general direction of the MCG until the next day (or until thrown out by the nightclub owners). Their accompanying girlfriends are known for their conservative dressing from head to toe in fake tans.
For the schoolies the pilgrimage becomes a mass mating ritual where the males will court the females by buying them Bintang beer and impressing them with their mathematical skills, recently learnt from TEE Calculus, by counting the number of stars on their Southern Cross tattoos -- which is a remarkable feat when having Bintang double vision. The female, if receptive, will make a duckface to accentuate her facial features such as large lips by pouting. Mating, however, can be difficult if the female is underage age and the male is a significantly older male (known as toolies), and there are larger males competing (coppers).
=== The Rich History ===
During the Japanese occupation of Bali last century expatriate Australians formed a 'freedom army'. They created an immense network of connecting underground tunnels underneath the island where they would drink cartons of Bintang during the day and then at night use Guerilla Warfare such as throwing empty Bintang bottles they had accumulated during the day onto incoming military traffic. Although this technique was not effective, they did finally succeed in ultimately driving out the Japanese, as the stench from their public urination on the surface became too much to bear for the hygiene obsessed Japanese. Today Bogan Youths carry on this tradition at parties by throwing bottles at police cars and publicly urinating at music festivals.
=== The Strong Ties ===
Australia and Bali currently enjoy very strong ties, which is evidenced by the extradition relationships they have with one another. Whereas Israel must work for many months to arrange for the release of its soldiers, Australia only has to wait between hours to a week -- depending on how long it takes for the cheque to clear.
Australian Bogans proudly wear their Bintang clothing overseas as a show of solidarity with their Balinese brothers and sisters. From running down the streets in Bingtang shirts and thongs in Pomplona during The Running of The Bulls to being discovered with vomit on their Bintang shirts at Oktoberfest in Germany, it has now become the national uniform to show our deep affection for Bali.
Lucky Aussie teen walks free from Bali jail in mystery white powder drama - TomoNews
DENPASAR, INDONESIA — An Australian teenager walked free from jail in Bali on Thursday after tests on a white powder found in his possession showed up negative for illegal drugs.
Perth teen Jamie Murphy, 18, was arrested at the Sky Garden nightclub in Kuta, Bali in the early hours of Tuesday when security guards found the white powder in his bag during a random search.
However, lab tests revealed the white powder didn’t contain any illegal drugs, the Guardian reported.
According to Bali police, Jamie admitted to getting the powder from someone outside the club, who told him it would make him feel good, the Guardian reported.
Jamie was held for 45 hours while police forensics tested the powder and analysed his blood and urine for drug use.
Under Indonesia’s strict anti-drugs laws, Jamie could have been jailed for up to 12 years and fined $600,000.
But the lab results confirmed the white powder was in fact a mixture of painkillers, caffeine, cold, flu, and cough medicine. In short, Jamie was ripped off by whomever sold him the powder.
A somewhat disappointed-sounding Bali police chief told reporters this was the first time the police station had a negative drug result after making such a discovery.
The police chief said Jamie was very lucky, adding that he didn’t want to say if the kid was stupid or not.

BALI GONE BAD! - The Way Overland - Episode 24
As Mitch's stay draws to an end, we start driving back towards the main area of Bali. On the way south we stop in at our camp spot at Padang Bai on the east coast. Just a short walk from where we are camped is a beach that's sign posted as White Sand Beach. It just so happened that our stay coincided with a full moon which is producing big tides and swell. Lets just stay this made for an exciting day at the beach!
As we arrive in the busy area of Bali, we quickly decide it would be much easier to get around on scooters and to hire 2 for the next couple of days.
NOW, here's where things don't go to plan! One of the mornings Mark goes out for a ride and when he doesn't return I knew something was wrong. Upon trying to call his phone, a local guy answers and tells me Mark has been in a bad accident! He sent me his location and I went there straight away. As I arrived so did the ambulance and from there it all happened very quickly and feels like a bit of a blur! No one was sure what had happened though it was clear that he'd gone over the front of the bike and his head had taken most of the fall as it was covered with blood and very swollen.
After a long morning at the hospital getting him cleaned up, the prognosis was; bruising on the brain, broken front tooth, bottom lip completely split open, 20mm deep cup on his chin, torn ligament to left shoulder, muscle damage to his left hand and knee and a bit of bark off.
Although at the time he looked in really bad shape, he was extremely lucky that he was wearing a helmet as his injuries could of been a lot worse than what they were!
The hospital released him in the afternoon and thankfully with Mitch being with us still and being ED nurse back in Australia, he was able to help out with looking after the patient and was a huge support to me whilst trying to get all of the paperwork sorted for insurance. So, thanks Mitch! Sorry this is how your holiday ended!
After 2 weeks stuck here recovering and waiting for Mark's new tooth to be made, we could finally get on the road again!! Java here we come!
On our way to the ferry we noticed a loud clunk coming from under the car whenever we turned a corner or went over uneven terrain. Feeling a little disheartened as we were so excited to be driving again, Mark got under the car and tried to find the source of the mysterious clunk! Unfortunately, with no luck..
Arriving in Banyuwangi, where the ferry arrives in East Java, we drive straight to Toyota and ask for their help. They searched the whole car and after about 10 hours of searching they found it! Turns out it was the rear suspension. They replaced the bushes and greased everything up and we were good to go, again!
On our way out of town to a nearby volcano, Mt. Ijen, a local guy approached us and asked to show us around his home town. We thought, why not!? Our meeting was a little serendipitous as our new friend, Febri informed us that Ijen had just recently been closed as it had begun releasing toxic gases that had already poisoned 30 people. I googled this straight away and unfortunately his story checked out.. ????
Febri took us to his friends coffee roasting house where we were able to have a go at roasting some local arabica coffee beans, then to a local waterfall and a batik workshop (which is actually really hard!).
So, even though things don't always go to plan we are just feeling grateful that Mark came away from the accident without any serious damage and we can continue on with our journey!
In the next episode we'll be doing a run down on all things car, documentation and costs. If you have any questions you'd like us to answer, feel free to leave them in the comments below!
Thanks for watching!

Things to KNOW Before Visiting BALI! (Culture Shocks, Travel Tips & Advice)
There are a few culture shocks that took us by surprise when we first arrived on Bali. This was our very first time traveling to Bali. One of the best things about going to a new country is you get to experience and learn about a different culture. It's always best to be respectful of wherever you are visting, and we made a list of 9 things that are good to know before you go!
We spent a month explore Bali and some of the smaller nearby islands. We stayed in Canggu, Ubud and Uluwatu, along with Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. We wouldn't change our first experience, but we learned a lot and know more for next time! Bali is such a beautiful island with so much to offer. :)

RECOVERING FROM 70 MOSQUITO BITES IN LUXURY -- Nusa Lembongan, Bali, Indonesia // 191
Apparently the best relief for 70 mosquito bites is luxury accommodation.
In the last video ( ), you saw that I woke up with 70 mosquito bites! I left that hostel--the one with no mozzie nets--asap and booked a luxurious week-long stay at the Dream Beach Cottages in Nusa Lembongan.
Nusa Lembongan is part of the three main Nusa islands outside of Bali. Lembongan is known for being less touristy and more conducive to a relaxing vacation, watching sunsets and eating smoothie bowls.
The Dream Beach Cottages is a 3-star mini-resort, with a beautiful clean pool and neatly groomed gardens. The room is spacious and comfortable, just what I needed!
The extreme number of mosquito bites has been driving me crazy. I had no idea what to do when you get a lot of mosquito bites like this. Is it dangerous? Will I get sick? Will the itching ever stop? Mosquito bites in Bali are likely to bring on Dengue Fever, but not much else. Thankfully, I haven't been feeling ill so far, so I'm hoping I've managed to evade the Dengue.
If you get a lot of mosquito bites, it will seem impossible not to scratch them. But once your scratch one, the other a centimeter away becomes more itchy too. Then all the bites on your left are swelling up into red blotches that make you look poisonous. It's a sort of hell I hadn't expected. Thankfully, mozzie bites only last a few days.
If you get a lot of mosquito bites in Bali, remain aware of the possibility of Dengue Fever. For relief, use itch-relief cream like Cortizone, rub the bites with ice (I found this to work wonders!), and take some benadryl or ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation.
When I think of Bali, Indonesia as a prime vacation spot, somehow I don't think of swarms of mosquitos, dirty beaches, or sweltering heat. Be warned, Bali does have all of these things! However, as I'm finding on Nusa Lembongan, there is also some extreme beauty here. I haven't been to the beaches yet because the heat irritates the mosquito bites, but I'll get there soon and show you how beautiful they are!
