New Year's Eve Trip to Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina
Where did you go for NYE? I decided to spend mine in Sarajevo, Bosnia. It's one of my favorite capitals in this part of Europe; The prices are cheap, food is good, and it's only a 5 hour , 30e shuttle ride from Belgrade.
A Guided Tour of Must See Sarajevo, Bosnia
One day is Sarajevo is not enough! All those scheduling and rescheduling of different tours during this Balkan trip led to a shortened stay in Sarajevo. Hissy fits didn't help with this fait accompli.
A wonderful guide, Anja, began the walking tour from Hotel Hayat, down along the Miljacka River to the Mayor's Bridge. She started with some Austro-Hungarian history before walking us back towards Pigeon Square.
Watch for more videos divided into the Ottoman Section, followed by the Austro-Hungarian. I loved Sarajevo and was so disappointed by the minimal time here.
A Guided Tour of The Ottoman Area of Sarajevo, Bosnia
Pigeon Square holds the lovely old Sebilj water fountain from 1891, the only one remaining in Sarajevo. It resembles a gazebo rather than a water fountain and the Pigeon name is self-explanatory.
Down all the little side streets radiating off from this square. The former Leather Street. Still working Copper Street with copper bracelets, coffee pots, ewers. A street filled with Sarajevo's version of fast food, lines of restaurants. A person could spend months eating without touching all the restaurant choices.
Though the 1551 stone Bursa Bedistan that was once a silk trading bazaar filled with small knock-off shops. Into the courtyard of the Gazi-Husrevbey Vakuf Mosque, one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the world, built by court architect Sinan. A lot to see...

Travnik and Jajce Tour - Day Trip from Sarajevo ???????? [2019 travel vlog]
Central Bosnia's towns of Travnik and Jajce are a great day trip from Sarajevo. Travnik used to be the capital of Bosnia in the Ottoman Empire, while Jajce has a great waterfall right in the middle of town!
In Travnik, I visit:
- Plava Voda (Blue Water) Springs
- Ornamented Mosque (Šarena džamija)/ Coloured Mosque / Sulejmania Mosque
- Ćevabdžinica Hari (best cevapi in Travnik for lunch)
- Stari Grad Castle / Travnik Castle
- Lutvina Kahva Coffeehouse (Bosnian coffee with cigarette)
In Jajce, I only had time to visit:
- Viewpoint
- Pliva Waterfall

Travel Vlog: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Sarajevo has a complex history, on one hand a center of multiculturalism but on the other, marred by war. Yet, beneath it all is a resilient city full of beauty.
If you visit Sarajevo, I highly recommend doing the Siege of Sarajevo tour. It’s dark travel at its best.

We start off our gastronomic tour of Sarajevo by eating the Cevapcici, the national dish in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the top restaurants to eat it is at Petica Cevabzinica. It's minced meat kebab, served with bread and raw onions.
Next we head to Buregdzinica to try some traditional pies, similar to Burek. We tried one with cheese, another with cheese and spinach and one with potatoes. To be really traditional try these pies with yogurt.
We headed to 4 Sobe Gospode to try some Bosnian fusion cuisine accompanied by local wines. We tried a beef carpaccio, a mushroom risotto and a roasted lamb with house wine.
Lastly we headed to Restaurant Dveri. They have a mix of European and Bosnian food. We eat a Hungarian goulash and a delicious steak. They have an extensive wine list from the Herzegovina region. A must visit!
Those were four delicious places to eat in Sarajevo! Which was your favorite? Leave me a question or comment below!

EXPLORING SARAJEVO: A tour of this beautiful city in Bosnia-Herzegovina
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go for a photographic tour of the beautiful city of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country on the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe. Its countryside is home to medieval villages, rivers and lakes, plus the craggy Dinaric Alps. National capital Sarajevo has a well preserved old quarter, Baščaršija, with landmarks like 16th-century Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque. Ottoman-era Latin Bridge is the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which ignited World War I.
