Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan - Trekking to the SPECTACULAR Monastery on a Cliff! (Final Day in Bhutan)
Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan is one of the most famous attractions, and the beauty is mind-blowing!
►Subscribe for more videos:
On Day 19 of our food and travel trip to Bhutan, we dedicated the entire day to trekking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan (Paro Taktsang in Bhutanese Dzongkha), which sits literally on the edge of a cliff. The hike takes about 3 - 4 hours or so, and since I wanted to beat the main crowds, my wife and I left from the hotel quite early to get a head start. It worked out quite well, because we were some of the only people on the trail that early in the morning. The fresh air was amazing. We wound our way along the trail, and soon we could get amazing views of Tiger’s Nest hidden in the clouds and on the side of the cliff.
The trail, although steep, isn’t really dangerous in any parts, as long as you keep your eye on the trail and don’t try to get too close to the edge. At the top of Tiger’s Nest Monastery they don’t allow any photography, so you have to check in your bag. We walked around the monastery for a little while, ate some snacks, and then headed down.
Despite Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan being one of the most famous attractions and icons of Bhutan, it really is spectacular.
Round-Trip Taxi from Paro to Tiger’s Nest - 1,400 BTN ($20.99)
It’s typically recommended that you visit Tiger’s Nest at the end of your trip to Bhutan so that you acclimatize better to the elevation.
Gangtey Palace Hotel - After returning from Tiger’s Nest, we checked into the classic Gangtey Palace Hotel for our final night in Bhutan!

Solo in Paro Bhutan | Tiger's Nest visit | Bhutan Travel Guide | Bhutan Series Ep 1 | Tanya Khanijow
Here’s presenting the first part of the Bhutan Series Episode in Paro. I went straight to Paro as first part of my road trip in the country. The drive from Phuntsholing took about 4 hours.
The entire budget of my Bhutan trip was close to INR 25k. You can carry cash everywhere in Indian currency in Bhutan as it is accepted. Some things about Paro below:
1. The place where I stayed at in Paro is called Ama’s Village Lodge. You can book the place here -
2. The cost of entry to Taktsang Goempa is INR 500 and a round trip with any driver will cost INR 1000 from your lodge
3. You can contact Mr. Yonten Norbu for driving you around Bhutan if you are visiting. His number is +975 17672515 , my experience with him was extremely nice. He was a perfect gentleman who ensured my safety and also made sure my experience in Bhutan was memorable.
4. If you are visiting Bhutan, I would highly advice you to get a local sim for contacting tour agencies or driver. A local sim will be available for INR 200 at Phuntsholing.
5. Other places that you can visit in Paro are - Paro Dzong and you can get a Hot Stone bath which is very popular in the area

Definitive Cultural Tour of Bhutan
Watch this video of Mountain Kingdoms’ tour of Bhutan for a taster of some of the amazing things you can experience in this remarkable country. Take a journey through Bhutan’s main cultural sights and discover the unique traditions, culture, architecture and landscape of the mystical Thunder Dragon Kingdom.
With an abundance of cultural treasures, there is much to explore in Bhutan and probably top of most visitors’ wish list is Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. This name derives from the legend that the Indian saint, Guru Padma Sambhava, flew from Tibet on the back of a great tiger to defeat five demons who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan. The guru landed on the mountain at the site of the present day monastery and his victory ensured that Bhutan became a Buddhist country. Perched some 600m/2,000ft up on a cliffside, overlooking the verdant countryside of Paro Valley, Taktsang’s spectacular location makes it the must-see sight of any holiday to Bhutan.
A visit to at least one of the great dzongs of Bhutan is also an essential element in any itinerary. Dzongs have multiple roles being monasteries, fortresses and administrative centres, and are therefore central to everyday life in the kingdom. Their imposing white walls, high towers and ornate red and gold roofs have little architectural comparison anywhere in the world. Punakha Dzong, situated aside a confluence of two rivers, is one of the most beautiful and significant in all the kingdom and a showcase for Bhutanese craftsmanship.
Bhutan is renowned for its very high quality of its crafts, particularly weaving, wood carving, painting and paper making. Weaving skills are most noticeable in the traditional national dress, still commonly worn by the people of Bhutan. The men wear colourful robes called ghos whilst the women were long dresses called kiras. You may well get the chance to try on one of these during your tour or buy a souvenir or two in the craft centres.
Festivals, or tsechus, are one of Bhutan’s greatest cultural traditions and no visit is complete without seeing one of these vibrant social and sacred occasions. Whether you attend one of the small village festivals or the larger celebrations in Paro or Thimphu, the fabulous costumes, elaborate dances and colourful spectacles make for a truly unforgettable experience. It is also a chance to see the local people in their finery; socialising and having a splendid time. Archery tournaments are also great social events with all the villagers turning out to cheer on their team. Unlike our quiet and sedate version of this sport, Bhutanese archery is a much rowdier affair, with pre-event drinking and loud ‘sledging’ of opponents and celebratory singing during the games.
There is much opportunity though to enjoy peace and tranquillity in Bhutan. Gentle walks through the pretty villages and countryside will take you away from the main tourist trail and give you an insight into the everyday lives of the local people – many of whom still farm the land using traditional methods. You can also enjoy the beautiful Bhutanese landscape from the Dochu La Pass, famed for its 108 stone chortens and panoramic views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

Cultural Cycling Tour of Bhutan
Having travelled through Bhutan many times by car, Mountain Kingdoms Managing Director, Steve Berry, has often thought of how much fun it would be to complete the journey on a bike. Earlier in 2018, he had the opportunity to do so, on our Cultural Cycling Tour of Bhutan. Steve found it to be the ideal destination to explore on two wheels, with its scenic roads, spectacular countryside and engaging sights.
Their adventure began with a gentle ride in the beautiful Paro Valley followed by a group visit to the Drugyel Dzong, a fascinating building with rich history. From here they enjoyed a dramatic view of Taktsang, the iconic sacred Buddhist site and temple complex located in the cliff-side of the upper Paro Valley, before cycling to the capital of Thimphu where they experienced impressive views and explored Thimphu’s best attractions. After some time to rest on the optional car journey up to the Dochu La they embarked on an utterly thrilling 42km downhill ride through forests and quiet backroads to the glorious Punakha Dzong. Steve described this as an incredible experience and the highlight of his trip.

The pastoral Bumthang Valley in Bhutan
Bumthang is often referred to as the ‘Switzerland of the East’. Its wide open valleys, its snow-capped mountains, its green countryside, it's fast flowing mountain streams and its easy paced life all give it’s a Swiss like look and feel. But, this ‘Switzerland of the East’ has more to offer through its beautiful temples and monasteries that offer a rich spiritual experience.
Typically, most tourists to Bhutan visit Paro and Thimphu and if time permits they make their way to Bumthang, but if you ask me, you should definitely put Bumthang way up in your Bhutan holiday itinerary.
The entire region of Bumthang is famous for its fruit orchards. Apples, pears, apricots, walnuts and more can be found here in plenty. If relaxation is on your agenda, then basking in the morning sun, reading a book with a hot cup of tea amidst fruit orchards would be an excellent idea. There are many homestays in Bumthang area that offer this experience.

4,500 Meter VILLAGE FOOD - Heavenly Yamdrok Lake, Tibet!
????Street Food in Tibet - Ultimate Tibetan Food Tour:
????T-shirts and caps:
Thank you to for hosting me on my trip to Tibet!
High Altitude Tibetan Food - Today we drove from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake, where we had the honor to eat at a local family home. At 4,500 meters in elevation, there’s not a lot of plants that grow, and so our meal consisted of Tibetan barley, yak meat, a few green onions, and a radish soup. It was a hearty and warming meal, full of love, and a pleasure to learn more about Tibetan culture. #Tibet #YamdrokLake #streetfood #villagefood
Yamdrok Lake, Tibet - First we drove to Yamdrok Lake, and Kambala Pass (4,990 m (16,371 ft) for the viewpoint. The view of Yamdrok Lake for the first time was breathtaking. It’s a sacred lake in Tibet, and the colors of the lake look different depending on season, time of day, or even where you see the lake from. The actual bottom of the lake, on the shore is more like 4,500 Meters in Elevation.
High Elevation Tibetan Food - Tsampa (roasted barley) is the staple and main food of the Tibetan diet. It’s nutritious, and grows at a very high elevation. For lunch we had butter tea, barley dumplings with yak meat, radish soup with yak meat, and a type of momo bread which was formed into cone shapes, and fried and steamed in an iron griddle pan. The entire meal was simple, but delicious and very hearty and warming - mainly carbs, and yak. The entire village and setting next to Yamdrok Lake made it even more spectacular.
Karola Glacier View - Finally to end this day in Tibet, we continued to Karola Glacier, passing a section that was almost 5,200 meters in elevation. Highest elevation I’ve been to, and the entire drive was unbelievably beautiful.
An amazing day, great people, delicious food, and heavenly scenery of Yamdrok Lake.
Thank you to Travel China & Tibet ( they sponsored my trip to Tibet, and they did an amazing job to cater to the exact things I wanted to do. Highly recommended when you visit Tibet.

Bumpy drive on the road to Thimphu, passing prayer flags and forests of Himalayan blue pine.
A prayer flag is a colorful panel or rectangular cloth often found strung along mountain and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside or for other purposes. Traditionally, prayer flags come in sets of five, one in each of five colors. The five colors represent the elements and the Five Pure Lights and are arranged from left to right in a specific order.
Thimpu is the capital city of Bhutan. It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan and the name of the surrounding valley is dzongkhag, the Thimphu District. The culture of Bhutan is fully reflected in Thimphu in respect of literature, religion, customs, and national dress code, the monastic practices of the monasteries, music, dance, literature and in the media. Tsechu festival is an important festival when mask dances, popularly known as Cham dances, are performed in the courtyards of the Tashichhoe Dzong in Thimphu. It is a four day festival held every year during Autumn (September/October), on dates corresponding to the Bhutanese calendar'

Cuba : OMG What a place, what an experience - all the highlights
Cuba - can't recommend it enough. See all the highlights in just over one minute!
We went to Havana (such an intoxicating city), Vinales (Unesco site, tobacca farms and stunning hills), Trinidad (horse riding and waterfall), Santa Clara (Che Guevara Museum and huge statue / memorial), Cienfuegos, Bay Of Pigs (Cave of Fish - snorkeling), Manaca Iznaga in the Valle de Los Ingenios (famous tower and also a very old sugar cane press), Sancti Spiritus.
All filmed on my iphoneX and my little selfie-stick. The iphone X seems the same as the iphone7 in terms of filming quality - still get a 'rolling shutter' problem but hey it's an amazing to have a camera/phone/mic/everything in my pocket so I never complain.
I took a tour with G Adventures (they didn't sponsor me or anything! I'm just a normal tourist)
