Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - Abu Dhabi - UAE
The Great Mosque of Sheikh Zayed is located in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The largest mosque in the country, it is a key worship spot for Friday prayers and Eid prayers. During the Eid, it can be visited by more than 41,000 people.
The Great Mosque was built between 1996 and 2007. It was designed by the Syrian architect Yousef Abdelky. The building measures approximately 290 m by 420 m, covering an area of more than 12 hectares, excluding exterior landscaping and parking.
The project was funded by the then President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure that could unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with historical and modern values of architecture and art. Its tomb is located in a location adjacent to the complex.
The offices of the Great Mosque Center of Sheikh Zayed are located in the western minarets. It is responsible for managing day-to-day operations and serves as a center of learning and discovery through its educational cultural activities and visitor center.
The library, located in the north-east minaret, offers the community with classic books and publications covering a range of Islamic issues, including sciences, civilization, calligraphy, arts and coins, including rare publications dating back over 200 years. The collection also includes materials in a wide range of languages including Arabic, English, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Korean.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Arabic :جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير) is located in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates[1] and is considered to be the key for worship in the country.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was initiated by the late President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure which unites the cultural diversity of Islamic world, the historical and modern values of architecture and art.[2] His final resting place is located on the grounds beside the same mosque. It is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the eighth largest mosque in the world. The mosque site is equivalent to the size five football[clarification needed] fields approximately.
As the country's grand mosque, it is the key place of worship for Friday gathering and Eid prayers. During Eid it can be visited more than 40,000 people.[1]
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center (SZGMC) offices are located in the east minarets. SZGMC manages the day to day operations, as a place of worship and Friday gathering and also a center of learning and discovery through its educational cultural activities and visitor programs.
