bizhub Highveld Lions Camp-out!
The 26th of April 2017 marks the launch of the first-ever Lions Camp-out at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Illovo, which will see the bizhub Highveld Lions cricket team and its partners, namely Hirsch’s Homeware, Konica Minolta, Sun International, Cricket South Africa, Circa, Megaview, Imperial Toyota, Dairymaid, Coca Cola Beverages South Africa and Market Caterers arranging a camp-out at the Bullring, with 100 young aspiring cricket players from the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) amateur cricket development programme.
The GCB have done incredible work in developing the tremendous potential in their pipeline system, of which some unfortunately come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The bizhub Highveld Lions are supporting these endeavours by arranging this camp-out and giving these youngsters a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Subsequently, a partnership was formed with the various stakeholders for the event.
The aim of the Lions Camp-out has its sights firmly set on supporting the redefining of cricket development in South Africa and enabling the next generation of future stars to access meaningful opportunities and to pursue professional careers. The event will include interactive coaching clinics, workshops and activities to work at inspiring the young cricketers to keep on working to achieve their cricketing dreams.
“As a company, we are conscious of our need to build and maintain a credible profile as responsible corporate citizens. That is why we are committed to supplying a 100 beds for the camp-out,” says Allan Hirsch of Hirsch’s Homestore. “Our aim is to support and uplift these young players and it will start off with a good night’s sleep,’’ he further added. “In this way, I’m hoping that it will teach and inspire them. I’m looking forward to being part of the night, and watching them grow from strength to strength beyond the camp-out,” Hirsch concluded.
Janine Ferreira of team sponsor, Konica Minolta, said: “Konica Minolta has always been a great supporter of similar endeavours that the team has conducted. This is a great initiative and we look forward to seeing this come to life on the night.”

We have had a terrific partnership with the Gauteng Cricket Board, bizhub Highveld Lions and Bidvest Wanderers for the past 10 years and partnering with them in new ways like this, is a natural fit for us.”
GCB and bizhub Highveld Lions CEO, Greg Frederick’s mentioned that the day will be the start of something great for the Gauteng Cricket boys. “The Gauteng Cricket Board realises its duty to not only support the youth in playing cricket but also making a difference in their lives. This initiative does not only contribute towards that but is also giving them a once in a lifetime experience. We’re very grateful to the team of sponsors for their support. I am sure that these boys and girls are going to have incredible fun. It’s a sleep over after all. I also look forward to seeing them one day make their international match debut at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium.”
With a memorable night under African skies set to take place, the brightest stars on the night will be the 100 young cricketers at the Bullring on the 27th of April.

Johannesburg (; Afrikaans: [jʊəˈɦanəsbœrχ]; also known as Jozi, Joburg, and eGoli) is the largest city in South Africa and one of the 50 largest urban areas in the world. It is the provincial capital and largest city of Gauteng, which is the wealthiest province in South Africa. While Johannesburg is not one of South Africa's three capital cities, it is the seat of the Constitutional Court. The city is located in the mineral-rich Witwatersrand range of hills and is the centre of large-scale gold and diamond trade.The metropolis is an alpha global city as listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. In 2011, the population of the city of Johannesburg was 4,434,827, making it the most populous city in South Africa. In the same year, the population of Johannesburg's urban agglomeration was put at 7,860,781. The land area of the municipal city (1,645 km2 (635 sq mi)) is large in comparison with those of other major cities, resulting in a moderate population density of 2,364/km2 (6,120/sq mi).
The city was established in 1886 following the discovery of gold on what had been a farm. The city is commonly interpreted as the modern day El Dorado due to the extremely large gold deposit found along the Witwatersrand. The name is attributed to one or all of three men involved in the establishment of the city. In ten years, the population grew to 100,000 inhabitants.
A separate city from the late 1970s until 1994, Soweto is now part of Johannesburg. Originally an acronym for South-Western Townships, Soweto originated as a collection of settlements on the outskirts of Johannesburg, populated mostly by native African workers from the gold mining industry. Soweto, although eventually incorporated into Johannesburg, had been separated as a residential area for Blacks, who were not permitted to live in Johannesburg proper. Lenasia is predominantly populated by English-speaking South Africans of Indian descent. These areas were designated as non-white areas in accordance with the segregationist policies of the South African government known as Apartheid.
