What is it?
The American black bear & the Asian black bear are the main black bear species found in the world today. Even though they share some similarities, they also have a number of key differences when it comes to appearance, habitat & behavior towards humans.
On average, adult male Asian black bears weigh around 300 pounds, while their American counterparts are typically larger, ranging in size from 126 to 551 pounds, depending on the region. Asian black bears have black fur, light-brown muzzles & a distinctive white patch on the chest which can sometimes be in the shape of a V. They also have bell-shaped ears that stick out sideways from their heads & are proportionately larger than those of any other bear species. Asian black bears have shorter hind legs than American black bears.
6 Dylan
While camping at Glacier View Ranch, a retreat center in West, Colorado a 19-year-old camping instructor known only as Dylan, woke up with a bear paw wrapped around him.
Where is it located?
American black bears are the smallest & most common bear species in North America. They’re widely distributed with a total population estimated at being twice as large as that of all other bear species combined. Their decreasing numbers mainly attributed to deforestation. They’re currently found in the Himalayas, northeastern China, Korea, the Russian Far East, Taiwan, certain islands in Japan & the northern parts of the Indian subcontinent.
5 Darsh Patel
22-year-old student Darsh Patel was hiking with a group of friends in the woods of the Apshawa Preserve, in New Jersey, when they stumbled upon a massive black bear. They spotted the bear in the distance & turned around when it got within 300 feet of them. Unfortunately, the 302-pound black bear kept following the group. Patel was last seen trying to get away from the animal by climbing some rocks.
Its sense of smell is particularly well-developed which enables it to better detect human activity. It’s thought that this is due to increased interaction with humans. Others describe it as an adaptation to sharing the territory with predators such as tigers.
4 Li Guoxing
In 2004, Chinese farmer Li Guoxing spotted an Asian black bear that was approaching his sheep.
Awareness is the first step towards ensuring survival known for black bear activity. This means packing away your trash & food & carrying bear spray. You should never sneak up on it & making noise when walking through the woods will ensure that you don’t stumble upon a hidden black bear. Never run from a black bear or turn your back to it. They’re excellent climbers so climbing a tree to get away isn’t recommended. Instead, stand your ground & cause a commotion while making yourself look bigger. Use bear spray if it’s about 40 or 50 feet away.
3 Black Bears in Alaska
In June 2017, two black bears showed up in Alaska over the course of 36 hours. The first one was 16-year-old Patrick Cooper, who was running in the Bird Ridge Trail Race, in Anchorage. Patrick became lost after veering off track &, at one point, placed frantic call to his brother telling him that he was being chased by a bear.
2 Black Bears in Japan
Over the course of three weeks, Japan’s Akita region was plagued by a series of black bears. Three of them were men in their 60s & 70s while picking bamboo soot in the region. The fourth one involved a 74-year-old woman foraging for edible plants. A black bear was eventually found near the site of the fourth incident.
1 Fon Phromlat
A drunk Thai man confronted a black bear for over 15 minutes, after he entered an enclosure at the Phetchabun temple sanctuary. The enclosure, locally referred to as the ‘Luang Poo Lamai Herb Garden’, used to house more than one hundred wild boar. It was also the home of Jao Kaew, a giant female black bear raised at the facility ever since she was a cub. As those who managed the enclosure wanted the boar species to grow, the temple offered locals the chance to take boars home for free. When 38-year-old Fon Phromlat entered the cage with the intention of retrieving a boar, he tried to pat the bear on the head & offered it some grass.

The Panama Fruit Feeder Cam is a collaboration between the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Canopy Family, and explore.org.
*******************************
About the Site
The Panama Fruit Feeder Cam is located on the grounds of the Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antón, Panama. This site is just over 2,000 ft above sea level in the low mountains of Cerro Gaital, with a mild springtime climate year-round. A small stream called Rio Guayabo runs past the feeders in the background, and the lush landscaping of the Canopy Lodge grounds grade into the forested slopes around them. The feeding table is around 40 feet from the main lodge, and is one of several feeders provisioned throughout the day so that guests to the lodge are greeted to spectacular views of many of the common birds found in this ecosystem.
About the Canopy Lodge
The Canopy Lodge is a full service lodge specializing in nature tourism with a focus on birds. It is about 60 miles west of Panama City in the picturesque village of El Valle de Antón, right in the center of the gigantic crater of an extinct volcano. This is the largest inhabited crater in the Western Hemisphere and second only to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It is surrounded by the Cerro Gaital Natural Monument.
Canopy Lodge is one of a series of three ecotourism ventures developed by the Canopy Family. The first, Canopy Tower, involved transforming a former U.S. radar station overlooking the Panama Canal in Soberanía National Park into a unique birding lodge embedded in the canopy of the surrounding forest. Their newest property, Canopy Camp, offers a taste of some of the wildest lowland rainforest in Panama in the Darién region.

Senate Impeachment Trial Of President Trump - Day 9 | NBC News (Live Stream)
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 29, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial moves into the question period for both sides on Jan. 29, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Living Universe | Journey To Another Stars - Documentary 4K
The Earth is Not Alone:
LIVING UNIVERSE is an interstellar adventure that seeks to answer the most profound question of all: are we alone? Based on the latest scientific knowledge, we will take a journey to a planet beyond our solar system in search of life.
We ask the world's leading space scientists what we might find if we travel to a neighboring star system. Recent breakthroughs have proven that every star we see in the sky is orbited by at least one planet, many similar to our own Earth. How do we get to these exoplanets? Once there, what will we find? And what will it mean for humanity when we discover we are not alone?
Our speculative journey through space is set a hundred years in the future - when we have the technology to journey well beyond our solar system. On this first expedition, our star ship Aurora will be piloted not by astronauts, but by the artificial intelligence (A.I.) we call Artemis. We imagine how Artemis travels through space, on its 25-year journey, at one fifth of the speed of light. Its objective is Minerva B, a planet much like our own, with an atmosphere, temperature and liquid water that appears a likely candidate to contain life.
With spectacular special effects we will reach and explore a new planet as we seek to answer the most profound question of all: are we alone in the universe? Our guides on this journey are narrator Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and as the voice of our AI, Artemis, real-life astrophysicist, Professor Tamara Davis.
Inspired and informed by our rapidly developing knowledge of far-off worlds, our best scientists - including NASA engineers, astrophysicists and astronomers - we will discover that this amazing journey is not only possible, it is inevitable. To venture into distant space is our destiny.
LIVING UNIVERSE captures a pivotal moment in the human story. A film full of insight and inspiration certain to thrill anyone who dreams of distant worlds, or have ever wondered why are we here?
Have you ever wondered that someone like you, sitting less than a mile away, in some other universe, exists? The possibility in itself seems frightening as well as astonishing.
From breaking news and intriguing historical documentaries to conspiracy theories, classified NASA files and UFO's. We provide you with material that the government doesn't want you to see. The Insomnia team comes up with a promise. To keep up with the same, the team now brings to us a documentary that aims to change your perspective Of another existence, of another possibility, as today, the scientists now believe there may really be the presence of a parallel universe - and in fact, also believe that there may be an infinite number of parallel universes, and where we live today just happens to be only one of them and many of these other parallel universes come with different laws of physics as well.
These other universes that we are talking about not only contain space, time and strange forms of exotic matter but to surprise you, Some of them may even contain you, only maybe in a slightly different form. The thought itself is quite intriguing and scary on the same hand. The basis of this theory is as we know it the idea that parallel universes are constantly spinning off from reality that we humans know of. Though generally ignored at the time, that theory has gone on to become not just a popular topic of study among respected physicists, but the inspiration for such popular films, television shows, and books as Star Trek and The Golden Compass. according to the sources.
The video soon progresses into the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), that is now changing everything, as some say that the remarkable images reveal the true shape of the universe through baby pictures of the same from the time when it was 4 hundred thousand years old, looking so back in time, when there wasn't even the formation of galaxies yet. The WMAP is catching the very first signs of creation as it is officially tagged with measuring radiation that is left over from Big Bang. And now scientists have devised an experiment to find the overall true shape of the universe. The WMAP hence shows that the universe is flat. From here arises the possibility of more mind boggling parallel universe that are of the level-2 type and is made up of giant cosmic soap bubbles that float in hyperspace. Each of these bubbles within it has a whole universe. Now, the question that arises is that - Do we all live in a giant cosmic bubble?

Short-faced bear - Video Learning - WizScience.com
The short-faced bear is an extinct bear that inhabited North America during the Pleistocene epoch from about 1.8 Mya until 11,000 years ago. It was the most common early North American bear and was most abundant in California. There are two recognized species: Arctodus pristinus and Arctodus simus, with the latter considered one of the largest known terrestrial mammalian carnivores.
The name short-faced bear derives from the shape of their skulls, which appear to have a proportionally short snout compared to other bears; this characteristic is also shared by its extant relatives, the spectacled bear and the grizzly bear. However, this apparent shortness is an optical illusion caused by their deep snouts and short nasal regions. The scientific name of the genus, Arctodus, derives from the Greek language and means bear tooth.
The short-faced bear belongs to a group of bears known as the Tremarctinae, which appeared in the Americas during the earliest parts of the late Miocene epoch in the form of Plionarctos, a genus considered ancestral to Arctodus, Arctotherium and the modern spectacled bear . Although the early history of Arctodus is poorly known, it evidently became widespread in North America by the Kansan age about 800,000 years ago.
Arctodus simus first appeared during the middle Pleistocene in North America, about 800,000 years ago, ranging from Alaska to Mississippi,
and it became extinct about 11,600 years ago. Its fossils were first found in the Potter Creek Cave, Shasta County, California. It might have been the largest carnivorous land mammal that ever lived in North America. Only one Giant Short-faced Bear skeleton has been found in Indiana, unearthed south of
Rochester on west of Nyona Lake on Chet Williams' farm. It has become well known in scientific circles
because it was the biggest most-nearly complete skeleton of a giant short-faced bear found in America. The
original bones are in the Field Museum, Chicago. The new Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis, and the Yukon
Beringia Interpretive Centre, Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, have casts made of the bones. In a recent study, the mass of six specimens was estimated, one-third of them weighed about 900 kg, the largest being UVP 015 at 957 kg, suggesting specimens that big were probably more common than previously thought. It stood 8 - tall on hind legs while a large specimen would have been 11 - tall with a 14-foot vertical arm reach, and 5 - high at the shoulder when walking on all fours, it was tall enough to look a man in the eye. At Riverbluff Cave, Missouri, a series of claw marks up to 15 feet high have been found along the cave wall indicating Short-faced bears over 12 feet tall.

Snapping Turtles Threaten Vancouver Island Ecosystems
ERRINGTON - A new species is showing up on Vancouver Island and wildlife experts say it doesn't belong and its arrival could be disastrous. This week mechanics at a Port Alberni auto body shop made a curious discovery crawling across their parking lot. The crew located a spiky , prehistoric looking Turtle they had never laid eyes on before. They were not the only ones who couldn't identify the species of turtle. The local SPCA was called and officers where unable to decipher the type of reptile until they googled the odd looking creature. It was a Snapping Turtle indigenous to eastern regions of Canada and the United States.
The animal was quickly transported to the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre in Errington where specialists became aware that this turtle should not be on Vancouver Island and could be posing a serious risk to our ecosystems. A turtle like this can live in the same waters as a crocodile or an alligator, said wildlife centre founder Robin Campbell, so if it can live there what type of preditors do we have to take it on here. The turtles are known as an invasive species which means they often will take over an ecosystem they land in. It is unclear exactly how the turtle arrived on the west coast but biologists with the Ministry of Natural Resources say one or two of these Turtles are dumped her by pet owners each year.
Ministry Biologists say finding one Turtle here is rare, but finding two is something they had never expected. Today a massive twenty pound Snapping Turtle was captured near Victoria. It is being transported to the North Island Wildlife Centre where staff are trying to find a reptile sanctuary to take the animals. If one cannot be found the unwelcome Turtles may be euthanized.
