HOMELESS IN THE BIG EASY [2] - THE SOUTHERN ENDEAVOR | SOUTHERN TIER BICYCLE ROUTE
Shelter should be the last thing any cyclist, anyone for that matter, should have to worry about along the Southern Tier Bicycle Route. Especially, on a trip like this. Rolling up to camp sites and churches as the sun is setting in unknown locations is extremely dangerous. Well, this is exactly what happened throughout our trip and in New Orleans, La. Unfortunately, our host bailed on us, leaving us last minute to connect with the local bike shops for help. Help came and we couldn't be more fortunate/lucky to meet up with some exceptional people, making our lives a little bit easier in the Big Easy.

Drunk On RV Hookups In The Big Easy - Voodoo, Seafood, Garden District - Full Time RV Living
Over the 5 weeks we spent back in our hometown we got TOO used to RV hookups! As full time RVers we LOVE boondocking but those past 5 weeks made life too easy. But now we're in New Orleans and what better way to experience the Big Easy than through three of its traditions? Voodoo shops, seafood Po-Boys, and the mansions in the Garden District.

As Halloween nears we found that visiting a voodoo museum was the perfect way to get into the creepy eerie Halloween mood! And boy was the voodoo museum exactly that! Afterwards we grab a bite at Bourbon House on Bourbon Street to try some Po-boys - a Louisiana traditional sandwich. We wrap the night up by biking from the French Quarter to the Garden District to see the beautiful mansions.

THE BIG EASY - NEW ORLEANS!
Epic NOLA Bike Ride Bourbon St to Esplanade Ave to City Park
Rode my bike from my place in the French Quarter down Bourbon St. to Esplanade Ave. and on to a trail in City Park that I didn't know existed. I saw rabbits, squirrels, birds and I witnessed a guy catch a fish. It was the best bike ride that I've been on in the 5+yrs that I've been here.

Visiting New Orleans During Mardi Gras // RV Sometimer Life
We've been to New Orleans before but never by RV. We were planning to go after our stay at the Sea Rim State Park in Sabine Pass but then we had the slide issue and needed to get to RV Masters, a repair place, which meant going a few days early. Landing us in New Orleans in the middle of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras was a new experience for us but we were glad to see it end so that we could browse around with fewer crowds. We liked the parade but for some reason the temperature that day plummeted and I was so cold and trapped downtown until the parade was done it's route. Lesson learned make an escape plan in advance! We went on to tour around and enjoy The Big Easy, from Cafe du Monde, to the Audubon Insectarium, to the vintage street cars. Unfortunately, we didn't get the slide repaired after all of this but onward to the next stop.

New Orleans French Quarter bike ride
Ride down Chartres St and looping back on Royal St in the French Quarter. Filmed on a hot afternoon in July '15. Music by some of the artists that put New Orleans music on the map. Filmed with a GoPro Hero 3+ silver. Sorry about the shakiness, camera was on the handlebars.

They’re bold, chic, and they can shred the streets of New Orleans in a pair of stilettos. Meet the Caramel Curves, an all-female motorcycle club focused on empowering and uplifting women. After feeling removed from the culture of all-male bike clubs, co-founders Tru and Coco got together to start their own movement. Now, every time they ride, the Caramel Curves demand respect, standing as a role model for girls everywhere.

Ride Day 4: New Orleans, Louisiana to Galveston, Texas
Full Post: After spending a few night relaxing and taking in New Orleans, Louisiana I then headed across the border to Galveston, Texas.
This was a really cool ride through wetlands, and although the weather was pretty humid, it was fun stopping off a few times and seeing some alligators and other wetlands wildlife.
By now I had the camera fixed, and my load was considerably lighter thanks to me sending back a few boxes of ‘wants’ back home to Miami Beach.
The end of the trip required me to get a ferry, the Port Bolivar - Galveston Ferry to be precise and this is a free service to get you onto Galveston Island
The trip took me from New Orleans, Louisiana and onto my destination in New Orleans, Louisiana through to Lake Charles, Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge, Beaumont, Winnie, Stowell, Smith Oaks Sanctuary, Bolivar Peninsula onto Goat Island via the Port Bolivar - Galveston Ferry and onto my destination in Galveston, Texas.
I was now getting used to the riding, packing, riding routine and was getting my stops off into a nice routine. Having a bike I could get on and off with relative ease put a smile on my face, not to mention making it easier to pack and unpack for each day's ride.
My KTM 1290 Super Adventure was doing well, and the trip took me only just a shade over 8 hours traveling over 360 miles (579 kilometers) and only having a few breaks along the way.
Note: The Rever App quit on me so only less than half the ride was recorded.
