At 7:40 we headed for a bus to the bottom of Diamond Head, where we all hiked up the closed roads and trails :D
At first I was like “oooh scary” but it wasn’t as scary as I thought it was haha.
After our 2 hour hike we all decided to get some shave ice and all that :)
I’m gonna hand the summary over to the video because it’ll give you more insight! Hope you all enjoy Day 4!
Deuces!

Compilation of the world's biggest waves ever surfed! World record waves around 100ft (30m) rogue waves, largest waves world record Biggest wave in the world Large wave, swell storm tsunami, jaws, teahupoo
Fear is always present in a 50-foot wave. Fear is the best way of managing the risk of paddling for a huge wave face, which doesn't tell you what is going to happen and how it is going to break.
The pioneers of big wave surfing started to eye impossible killer rides in the 1940's. In the 1960's, waves like Pipeline and Waimea increased the popularity of paddling into new wave heights. Going over the falls was the daily menu.
Laird Hamilton is the first professional big wave surfer. The waterman from Maui defies fast, hollow and high waves with a full-time training and previous preparation. Hamilton, the father of tow-in surfing, takes on the entire big wave spots of the Hawaiian Islands, in helicopter style.
Born in Kahului, Maui, Aikau was the third child of Solomon and Henrietta Aikau. He was a descendant of Hewahewa, the kahuna nui (high priest) of King Kamehameha I and his successor Kamehameha II.Aikau first learned how to surf at Kahului Harbor on its shorebreak. He moved to Oʻahu with his family in 1959, and at the age of 16 left school and started working at the Dole pineapple cannery; The paycheck allowed Aikau to buy his first surfboard. In 1968, he became the first lifeguard hired by the City & County of Honolulu to work on the North Shore. The City & County of Honolulu gave Aikau the task of covering all of the beaches between Sunset and Haleiwa. Not one life was lost while he served as lifeguard of Waimea Bay, as he braved waves that often reached 30 feet (9.1 m) high or more.In 1971, Aikau was named Lifeguard of the Year.
he saved over 500 people and became famous for surfing the big Hawaiian surf, Eddie Would Go
Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku (August 24, 1890 – January 22, 1968) was a Native Hawaiian competition swimmer who popularized the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing. He was born towards the end of the Kingdom of Hawaii, just before the overthrow, living into statehood as a United States citizen. He was a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming. Duke was also a law enforcement officer, an actor, a beach volleyball player and

Greg Noll (born February 11, 1937), nicknamed Da Bull by Phil Edwards in reference to his physique and way of charging down the face of a wave,is an American pioneer of big wave surfing and is also acknowledged as a prominent longboard shaper. Noll was a member of a US lifeguard team that introduced malibu boards to Australia around the time of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Noll also produced a legendary series of Search for Surf movies.

Discover Waimea Valley and Waimea Bay
Hawaii.com
Video by: Terrance Aikens/ Triad Productions, Gerardo Vizcarra/ Triad Productions, Drone Tours & Waimea Valley
Upon any given day, a visit to this tropical Eden offers numerous offerings to enjoy. Stroll through the valley’s world class botanical gardens, where a smooth, paved path (1.5 miles round trip) takes you to the valley’s breathtaking 45-foot Waihi waterfall. Numerous cultural activities for the whole family are also available daily, from hula demonstrations to crafts, story telling and more.
After exploring Waimea Valley, take the entire family and saunter just across the street to world famous Waimea Beach, known as the winter mecca of monster waves, where surfers from across the globe gather to earn the title of Big Kahuna. During the summer months, however, the sea is calm and provides an idyllic area to swim, sunbathe and soak up the sunshine and saltwater that Hawaii is known for.
While here, don’t forget to jump in (literally), and fully embrace your Oahu island adventure, as launching oneself off “The Rock” — a natural outcropping in the bay—is a popular pastime. Just remember to be safe, and always heed all postings and lifeguard warnings—and leave those big wave rides to the Eddie Aikaus among us!

DisruptSports_History of Surfing Innovation Part 1 The Hawaiian Surfing Culture
In the history of surfing innovation it only takes one surfer with a brilliant, revolutionary idea to carve out some surf history. The road can be a rocky one, for innovative shapers, surfers and surfing companies. Facing hoards of sceptics, traditionalists, and competitors– paving the path for surfing’s futurehas never been easy. But the rewards, when achieved, are unprecedented.
As long as humans have dwelled in and alongside the ocean, we have been drawn to the power and mysticism of the sea. Creating surfcraft to coexist within the ocean seems to be an entirely natural progression in human history.
Part 1: The Hawaiian Surfing Culture
To begin to cover the history of surfing innovation, it is only appropriate to name the Polynesians, particularly Hawaiians the true, and initial innovators in surfing.
Along with Hawaiians, ancient Samoans, Tongans and Peruvians used forms of surfcraft in daily life. Ancient Hawaiian culture incorporated surfing into their culture as more than a recreational activity, but an integral part of life.
Surfing was an art form called “wave sliding”. Hawaiians’ ancient priest was titled thekahuna”. The kahuna’s primary task of contacting the gods
through prayers for good surf and aiding surfers in the spiritual ceremony of constructing surfboards.
Creating these ancient Hawaiian surfboards required a special procedure. The tree was chosen, either a koa, ‘ulu, or wiliwili was selected and constructed by a local craftsman. The three primary shapes of boards were the eminent alaia shape or the ‘olo or kiko’o shapes. The 9’ alaia was the most celebrated
board as only the most skilled in the ocean could master this board.
In 1769, Joseph Banks, traveling on the HMS Endeavour with Captain James Cook, recorded the first European sighting of the Hawaiian surfing culture. Banks documented the rituals and organization of the ancient culture, which was governed by the community chief (Ali’i). The chief was the top surfer, who rode on the finest board crafted from the best tree on the island. Only the ruling classes could ride selected breaks, but if the average Joe could prove his worth and skill in the ocean, he/she was able to ride the exclusive breaks.

No matter what! DO NOT BUY those Maui Jim's Sunglasses…..until you read to this whole review.
Why would a real estate agent in Hawaii write a review about sunglasses? Well, I decided to share with the world the best things that have come out of the State of Hawaii. And I thought what a better place to start than Maui Jim's! I have always been very passionate about quality sunglasses and I wanted to share with you my story and review of Maui Jim's. I have been connoisseur (of sorts) of high-end sunglasses my whole life. It started back in the 80’s with Vuarnet. I don't know if you remember that company, but those were some really amazing (and expensive at the time!) sunglasses. This really started my personal obsession/fascination with high-end sunglasses! Nothing felt better than dropping quality glass in front of my eyes. After that I started wearing Revo’s and then Oakleys. OK, I admit it, I also had some aviator style Gold Ray Ban’s after the movie Top Gun came out. Truth be told, I lived on Maui for 5 years and never even tried ON a pair of these sunglasses. Why? I guess I thought they were just too expensive. I did not perceive them on the level of a Revo, Ray Ban or Oakley and therefore did not justify the cost. I also did not see them in all the usual sun-glass retail outlets (which I later learned on a 60 Minutes broadcast are all owned (and monopolized) by one company in Italy called Luxottica) Finally, I really just thought these sunglasses were just something tourists (with too much money) bought when they got bored while on vacation.
Boy was I wrong.
So why is it that all the sudden I am passionately endorsing Maui Jim's as the absolute best sunglasses money can buy?
Three simple reasons.
#1 Scratch Resistance. The lenses on my Maui Jim’s simply don't seem to scratch. I am sure it’s possible, but after a year of daily use they are still absolutely flawless. Clearly, they are very scratch resistant lenses. And let’s face it, the number one thing that renders a pair of high dollar sunglasses useless are scratches. I found most all other brands that I have owned, no matter how careful I am, they eventually get scratched.
#2 Visual Effects. I call my Maui Jim’s the “paradise” glasses. I live in paradise...Maui. So it is paradise all around us. But something special and extraordinary happens when you put on a pair of Maui Jim’s. When you look at the aqua blue water and the cobalt sky and the coral beneath the surface the colors and detail appear much more vibrant than with a naked eye, or other competing sunglasses. All of a sudden what you're looking at becomes a postcard! I know other sunglasses have polarized coatings but something extra special is happening with the Maui Jim coating!
#3 Ego & Getting Noticed! My Maui Jim’s are literally the only sunglasses I've ever owned where people go out of their way to compliment me about them and ask where I purchased them and to just to talk story about the sunglasses. It’s crazy. Keep in mind, that I have been wearing top of the line sunglasses for over 30 years!! Clearly, Maui Jim is doing something very special in the design, color, and style of their shades.
A Big Mahalo to Maui Jim for putting out such a quality & Luxottica independent product!! Not to mention, founded right here in Lahaina, on the shores of Maui Hawaii.
May you stay to true to your heritage and never sell out!!!

Hawaiian Seafood Caught by Exploited Fishermen
(8 Sep 2016) EVERY MORNING BEFORE DAWN...THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF FRESH SEAFOOD ARE OFFLOADED FROM BOATS AT THE LARGEST AUCTION OF ITS KIND IN THE COUNTRY.
(bell ringing nats start auction)
AT THE HONOLULU FISH ACTION... THE HIGHER THE QUALITY OF THE CATCH, THE BETTER THE PRICE...WITH SOME AHI TUNA GOING FOR AS MUCH AS ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH.
(fast-talking auctioneer nats)
THEIR CATCH ENDS UP AT RESTAURANTS AND SEAFOOD COUNTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY...FROM WHOLE FOODS AND COSTCO TO ROY¹S.
SOUNDBITE Brooks Takenaka, GM - Honolulu Fish Market:
'We're trying to deliver the best possible product. These guys risk their lives to go catch these fish.
BUT AN AP INVESTIGATION HAS FOUND THAT UNDOCUMENTED FOREIGN FISHERMEN WHO CATCH THOSE FISH EARN VERY LITTLE MONEY AND ARE CONFINED TO THEIR AMERICAN-OWNED BOATS FOR YEARS AT A TIME.
WHILE NOT ALL BOATS SUFFER FROM POOR CONDITIONS, AP FOUND INSTANCES OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING, ACTIVE TUBERCULOSIS AND LOW FOOD SUPPLIES.
SOUNDBITE Kathryn Xian, Executive Director - Pacific Alliance to Stop Slavery: Most of the fish caught and sold in Hawaii is done by the use of exploiting migrant workers in what looks to be a human trafficking scheme that's legitimized by our own laws.
ABOUT SEVEN HUNDRED MEN WORK IN THIS UNIQUE U-S FLEET WITHOUT VISAS.
A FEDERAL LOOPHOLE ALLOWS UNDOCUMENTED FISHERMEN TO WORK ON THE HAWAII FLEET AS LONG AS THEY REMAIN CONFINED TO THEIR BOATS.
THEY HAVE NO WAGE PROTECTION AND LITTLE LEGAL RECOURSE.
SOME ONLY MAKE 70 CENTS AN HOUR...WORKING UP TO 22 HOURS A DAY.
MOST COME FROM IMPOVERISHED SOUTHEAST ASIAN AND PACIFIC NATIONS LIKE THESE FISHERMEN FROM INDONESIA.
SOUNDBITE (Indonesian with English translation) Syamsul Maarif, Indonesian fisherman:
The worst one is the last boat I was in. because we did not take a bath for one week and it was really difficult to have a time to go to the toilet.
EVEN WHEN THE BOATS ARE IN PORT IN HAWAII, THE MEN ARE NOT PERMITTED TO GO ASHORE.
INSTEAD CAPTAINS ARE REQUIRED TO KEEP THEIR PASSPORTS WITH APPROVAL FROM FEDERAL AGENTS.
THESE INDONESIAN MEN ESCAPED WHEN THEIR BOAT DOCKED IN SAN FRANCISCO AND WERE GRANTED VISAS DESIGNATED SPECIFICALLY FOR VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
SOUNDBITE (Indonesian with English translation) Abdul - Granted Asylum in US I felt that I was not human.
THEY CHOSE NOT TO SHOW THEIR FACES...BUT THROUGH AN INTERPRETER CLAIMED THEIR WAGES WERE NOT ONLY UNFAIR BUT THAT THE WORK WAS UNSAFE.
SOUNDBITE (Indonesian with English translation) Abdul - Granted Asylum in US I have seen a lot of accidents among friends and the captain did not bring any of them to the doctor.
SOUNDBITE (Indonesian with English translation) Sorihin - Granted Asylum in US If I keep on staying on that boat, I think I would die.
THE U-S CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION DOES PERIODICALLY INSPECT THE FISHING BOATS WHEN DOCKED IN U-S PORTS.
...AND THE U-S COAST GUARD ROUTINELY BOARDS THE VESSELS AT SEA.
SOUNDBITE Mario Villani - US Coast Guard
I personally ask the crew about their welfare and if they're being treated correctly, if they're getting paid.
WHILE THE AGENCIES CAN MAKE SURE THE FISHERMEN ARE GETTING PAID SOMETHING...THEY HAVE NO AUTHORITY OVER THE AMOUNT PAID.
THIS FISHERMEN SAYS HE NEARLY DIED EARLIER THIS YEAR WHEN HIS BOAT SANK OFF THE COAST OF HAWAII.
OTHERS HAVE BEEN KILLED, FALLING OVERBOARD OR IN KNIFE FIGHTS.
SOUNDBITE (Indonesian with English translation) Syamsul Maarif - Indonesian fisherman We want to make a living for our family, children and our future, so we have to face it.
HAWAII LAWMAKERS HAVE ATTEMPTED TO PASS FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO ALLOW FOREIGN FISHING CREWS TO ENTER THE COUNTRY ON TEMPORARY VISAS BUT SO FAR THOSE EFFORTS HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.
