During our stay in the Florida Keys we visited the Dolphin Research Center on Marathon Key, found some famous Key Deer on Big Pine Key, hit up the dog park at the Ramrod swimming hole and kayaked the backcountry waters of Summerland Key.

Bahia Honda State Park Campground Tour, Florida Keys, Big Pine Key 4K
Tour of the Bahia Honda State Park Campgrounds:
We only spent a couple days at this state park in the keys compared to the 10 days we spent at Curry Hammock State Park. But it was still amazing.
From the water front spots to the long beaches to the old Bahia Honda bridge, this is a must see location in the Keys.
The majority of this video is a site to site detailed tour so you can truly see which one is right for you. We also show the amenities- such as the Marina, the Nature Center, the store, the old bridge, and where you can walk your dogs (they have a lot of rules against dogs).

Big Pine & The Lower Keys - The Natural Keys
If you've had enough of an overcrowded and weary world, the islands of the Lower Keys are the place for you.
Here, you can snorkel or dive over the Looe Key coral reef, ride a bicycle through Key Deer country, or take a fishing adventure in the back country or troll the deep blue waters beyond the reef.
At the end of the day, you can trade stories with family and friends at one of this area's tiki bars, RV parks, campgrounds, quaint resorts or licensed vacation homes. The Earthy fragrance of mangrove forests and wetlands is never far away.
The Lower Keys begin where the Florida Keys island chain takes a graceful westerly turn toward the sunset, shortly after the famous Seven Mile Bridge. It is a quiet region of small resorts, down-home restaurants, single-family homes, untrammeled wildernesses and rich history.

Bahia Honda State Park Big Pine Key Flordia
Henry Flagler's railroad to Key West turned the remote island of Bahia Honda Key into a tropical destination. Today, the island is home to one of Florida's southernmost state parks, known for beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets and excellent snorkeling. Visitors can picnic on the beach, take a swim, or relax and enjoy the balmy sea breezes that caress the shores year-round. Anglers can fish from shore or bring a boat and launch at the boat ramp. Kayaks, and snorkeling gear can be rented and boat trips to the reef for a snorkeling excursion are available. Bahia Honda is an excellent place to see wading birds and shorebirds, while the Sand and Sea Nature Center introduces nature lovers to the island's plants and animals. Campsites and vacation cabins are also available.

Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge - Fish, Explore, Enjoy, Relax
Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge (BPKFL) occupies ten pristine acres between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Perfectly positioned in the middle keys at MM33, the BPKFL offers a friendly home-base from which to enjoy all the Florida Keys has to offer.
The BPKFL has several lodging options to choose from including motel rooms, rustic campsites, electric/water RV sites and even waterfront sites. With a boat ramp and canals, you can put your boat in the water (and leave it in the water) during your stay. This idea of “boat-side” camping gives you the freedom to jump in your boat and go when the mood strikes.
Our 2000 square foot camp store is stocked with everything you need to be comfortable at camp and out on the water. This includes food, beverages and snacks plus fishing and marine supplies like marine gas, bait and basic water sports equipment. We are one of the few campgrounds in the area where you can come with an empty cooler and get everything you need right on property.
Recreation is a big part of life in the Florida Keys and at the BPKFL we have the facilities to help you make the most of your vacation. Play ping-pong, take a long walk on the beach or just relax under a palm tree; do as much or as little as you care to do. From our 25,000 gallon roof top pool to our calendar of parties and planned activities, BPKFL has something for visitors of all ages.
If you need anything at all, please call our office at 305-872-2351 or complete our contact form and a member of the Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge will return your call within 24 hours. Whether this is your first visit to BPKFL or your fiftieth, we look forward to sharing out little slice of paradise with you.

Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail: Key West to Big Pine Key
Biking the southernmost section of the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, which is also the southern terminus of the East Coast Greenway. While good segments of dedicated bike path exist along this section, few of the old bridges can be crossed, meaning portions of this 30 mile ride must be done along the bike lane or shoulder of US 1. Our end point was the Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge, which has nice large rooms and an ample campground suitable for groups.
