The Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Giant Wild Goose Pagoda) is situated in Da Ci'en Temple, in the southern suburb of Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. It is a 7-story pagoda with a total height of 64.5 meters. It is the earliest and largest Tang Dynasty style square towered brick pagoda that can be found today, this unique style stands witness to the spread of ancient Indian architectural styles and the dissemination of Buddhism into China, and became part of Chinese civilization. It is a masterpiece of Buddhist architecture in Tang Dynasty. After thousands of years, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda has become a signature building of Xi’an, and was recorded into UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2014.

As the symbol of the old-line Xi'an, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (also called Big Wild Goose Pagoda) is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. It is located in the southern suburb of Xi'an City, about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the downtown of the city. Standing in the Da Ci'en Temple complex, it attracts numerous visitors for its fame in the Buddhist religion and its simple but appealing style of construction. Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is rated as a National Key Cultural Relic Preserve as well as an AAAA Tourist Attraction. In addition, it was added to the World Heritage List on June 22, 2014, together with other sites along the ancient Silk Road.
This whole scenic area include the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Da Ci'en Temple, and the various squares, gardens and other facilities around.

It was built in 652 during the Tang dynasty and originally had five stories. The structure was rebuilt in 704 during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian, and its exterior brick facade was renovated during the Ming dynasty. One of the pagoda's many functions was to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveler Xuanzang. Today, the interior walls of the pagoda feature engraved statues of Buddha by the renowned artist Yan Liben.

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Xian - China Travel Channel
The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is the landmark of the city of Xi'an. The entire temple complex stands as a symbol to the monk Xuangzang, who translated and stored the Buddhist scriptures he brought back with him from a trip to India. The 64 m high pagoda is from the year 652 and at one time had 10 stories.
The pagoda was built by Emperor Gaozong in memory of his deceased mother. In addition to the pagoda, the temple complex includes a main and secondary hall and a bell and drum tower. In the halls are a series of Buddhist fine art items such as jade reliefs, stone sculptures and images of Buddha.

Wahrzeichen der Stadt Xian ist die Große Wildganspagode. Die gesamte Tempelanlage steht im Zeichen des Mönches Xuangzang, der hier seine buddhistischen Schriften, die er von seiner Reise nach Indien mitgebracht hatte, übersetzte und aufbewahrte. It’s our fourth and final day in Xi’an. We head to the Wild Goose Pagoda in the morning, fly the DJI Spark drone up close and person to get some great shots then head back into the city centre. We loved walking along the Ancient City Wall and back to Muslim Street for some street food, a Chinese hamburger, lamb stew and some ice cream.

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China. It was built in 652 during the Tang dynasty and originally had five stories. The structure was rebuilt in 704 during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian, and its exterior brick facade was renovated during the Ming dynasty. One of the pagoda's many functions was to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveler Xuanzang. The original pagoda was built during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang (r. 649-683), then standing at a height of 54 m (177 ft). This construction of rammed earth with a stone exterior facade collapsed five decades later. The ruling Empress Wu Zetian had the pagoda rebuilt and added five new stories by the year 704. A massive earthquake in 1556 heavily damaged the pagoda and reduced it by three stories, to its current height of seven stories. The structure leans very perceptibly (several degrees) to the west. Its related structure, the 8th century Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an, only suffered minor damage in the 1556 earthquake (unrepaired to this day). The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda was extensively repaired during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and renovated again in 1964. The pagoda currently stands at a height of 64 m (210 ft) tall and from the top it offers views over the city of Xi'an. The tower is inside the Da Ci'en Temple complex (mercy and kindness). It can be accessed from the Da Yan Ta station of line 3 of the Xi'an Metro. One entrance is located at the northeast corner of the north plaza. A new entrance will open later this year at the northwest corner of the north plaza.
