The reason for the passion for this kind of motorbike is that this motorbike has a soul. And it means that it is easy to meet other people without knowing them before. Even if we did not share experiences before, here it seems we are a family. This is also a great way to spend a day in an alternative atmosphere.

I have been driving a motorbike since my 18th, and since I was young I have had a passion for Harley-Davidson, only in the beginning I could not afford one. But when I was 40 I could afford a Harley-Davidson. The machine is the power, it's the sound and the machine - that's the passion for Harley-Davidson.

STORYLINE
About 35-thousand Harley-Davidson bikers gathered in central Rome on Saturday as part of a festival to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the founding of the American motorcycle maker.
The riders came from all over the world to tour the Eternal City astride a variety of Harley-Davidsons, both modern and vintage - to the delight of tourists and locals alike.
Some of the leather-clad bikers explained their enthusiasm for the iconic motorcycles and talked about their affinity for fellow-riders.
The reason for the passion for this kind of motorbike is that this motorbike has a soul. And it means that it is easy to meet other people without knowing them before. Even if we did not share experiences before, here it seems we are a family, said Italian Simone Fabiani.
The machine is the power, it's the sound and the machine - that's the passion for Harley-Davidson, Dutchman Frank Jonkers added.
With so many bikers on the road, hundreds of police were deployed to supervise and control the traffic.
Still, local media reported that a young woman was seriously hurt in a crash between a group of Harley-Davidsons and a car on the outskirts of the capital on Saturday.
As well as the parade in central Rome, the anniversary festival included celebrations at the Port of Ostia, the harbour city of ancient Rome.
And on Sunday, 800 bikes and their riders will be blessed by Pope Francis during his Angelus, and the Via della Conciliazione, the street leading up to St Peter's Square, will become a parade route for the bikers.
The Vatican said Harley-Davidson gave two motorcycles and a leather jacket to the pope to celebrate the company's anniversary.
It is not clear if, when or where the pontiff might try them out.

THE ROYAL SCOTS (THE ROYAL REGIMENT)
The Royal Charter which raised The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) was given by King Charles 1st in 1633 making it, without dispute, the oldest regular Regiment of Infantry in the British Army. Prior to the granting of the Royal Charter, the Regiment did exists and its traces its ancestry to those many Scottish Units who, from medieval times, fought in the service of the Kings of France, Bohemia, Holland, Denmark and Sweden.
The nickname of Pontius Pilates Bodyguard traditionally dates from 1643, when considerable rivalry existed between the French Regiment of Picardy (now the First Regiment of the Line of the French Army) and Douglass Regiment (the then title of the Royal Scots), on the subject of precedence.
In 340 years of soldiering, the Regiment has been awarded 136 Battle Honours from Tangier in 1680-84 to Burma (1939-45). The Regiment is allied, or affiliated, to the Canadian Scottish Regiment (1927), 10th (Princess Marys Own) Gurkha Rifles and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment (1957).
Over the years a very close association has developed between the Regiments and its Recruiting Area comprising the City of Edinburgh, The Lothians and Peebleshire. In recent years this has been exemplified by the Regiment being granted the Freedom of the Royal Burghs of Haddington (1947, Peebles (1954), Linlithgow (1960) and Musselburgh (1971). To commemorate this long association, ten Burghs in the Regimental Are have combined to present to the Regiment a set of Fanfare Trumpets and Banners. These are to be officially presented to the Regiment in the autumn of 1973 but with permission are used for the first time on this record.
REGIMENTAL MUSIC
Pipers were not officially sanctioned on the establishment of the Regiment until 1882. However there have always been drummers and since 1635 at least one piper. The Muster Roll of 1679 shows a Drum Major and a Pipe Major so it would appear that the Pipes and Drums existed a long time before they were officially sanctioned. The members of the Pipes and Drums are all fully trained soldiers as well as Pipers and Drummers and they travel everywhere with the Regiment on exercised and on operations. They have chosen to play a varied selection on this record. H.R.H. Princess Marys Wedding March is little known outside the Royal Scots. It was composed by Pipe Major G.S. Allan who was a Royal Scot Pipe Major and is frequently played in the Officers Mess. The Royal Scots Polka as the name suggests was composed by another Royal Scot, Pipe Major Willie Denholm.
The first mention of a Band of Musick is in the Inspection Report of the 1st Battalion for the year 1767. Although now they are one of the most youthful musical units in the British Army, there can be no doubt that they are one of the most served with the Royal Scots, including the present Director of Music of the Scots Guards, Major J.H. Howe, MBE, whose march Pentland Hill opens side one of this record.
The Regimental March Dumbarons Drum is the same Scots March which Pepys recorded hearing in 1667. When Royalty is on parade, however, the tune The Daughter of the Regiment is substituted. The tune commemorates the fact that Queen Victoria was born when her father, the Duke of Kent, was Colonel of the Regiment.
Plymouth Bikers - Porlock Weir Adventure
This video is about Porlock Weir Adventure with some of the Plymouth Bikers
The day was Saturday 3rd November 2013 the Ducati had a set of new road pilot 2s‚ chain lubed‚ oil checked and lights cleaned. Dot and I were off on a mini adventure with six other Plymouth bikers to Porlock Weir Somerset. We headed off to meet the crew at GT motorcycles around 12noon where we bumped into fellow bikers Vicky and Brad‚ Mike and Sam‚ looking at new toys. The crew had already turned up‚ bikes ready and bags packed. Pete on his Ducati Diavel‚ Pauline on her Honda CBR‚ Chrissie and Robin on their trusted Yamaha XJR and Di and Roger in the support vehicle.
We set off around 1pm on our 224 mile weekend adventure. The weather forecast predicted showers‚ and to be fair we did pretty well dodging them. After a good hour and half we took a well deserved rest at the The Fisherman's Cot Inn on the A307' near Tiverton for a light lunch. After refreshments we head off to our evening destination‚ Pete leading the way with the aid of his new satnav‚ Pauline also running in a new back tyre‚ Robin testing out his new top box fitting. The roads a little wet‚ but with just the twists and turns needed to get the rubber warm‚ within a couple of hours we started to see signs for Porlock Weir‚ then the sight of a 25% drop down a long hill and into the Weir‚ This took a little nerve even for the experienced riders that we are. Before long‚ the sight of our hotel for the night. The staff at the cafe‚ which is the name of this Hotel & restaurant‚ gave us a warm friendly welcome. We crashed for an hour‚ quick shower and shave‚ and we were back downstairs around an elegant table set out for eight bikers. the silver was laid out 5 knives deep! We were about to embark on a 5 course meal‚ wine selected for each course‚ it was a fabulous selection of food‚ a delight for a biker's taste buds.
The company was fantastic‚ after a few wines‚ fine ports‚ lagers and Drambuie‚ we all reminisced about our early biking days‚ and Roger‚ Di‚ Chrissie‚ Robin‚ Pauline‚ Pete‚ Dot and I all relaxed around the fire. I reflected on a great day and looked forward to the adventure to follow.
After a great night's sleep‚ probably due to the wine‚ we gathered again around the table for a good breakfast. We took in the fantastic views around Porlock. Around 11am‚ we filled the support car‚ loaded the bikes and away to the nearest petrol station. The Ducatis are getting around 120 miles per tank‚ the Honda and Yamaha do much better. We're on our way along the coast road to find Cricketer farm shop Nether Stowey. This is were Dot's brother owns a great place for biker refreshments. We then follow Roger in the support vehicle all the way back on the old A38‚ a couple of hours in‚ we come across the Bluebell Restaurant on the Collumpton Road‚ owned and run by a biker himself‚ he made us most welcome‚ fed us roast dinner and apple pie. I just don't know where Di and Chrissie put it! Another hour riding‚ we see the black clouds‚ rain and signs for Plymouth. The whole weekend was just fantastic‚ made so by the great people on the adventure. The tyres are now scrubbed in and my need for biking satisfied at‚ least for another week. metta
