Drivng Fort Worth Stockyards, Texas 2018
The Fort Worth Stockyards is a historic district that is located in Fort Worth, Texas, north of the central business district. The 98-acre (40 ha) district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District in 1976. They are a former livestock market which operated under various owners from 1866.
The arrival of [railroad]s in 1876 made the area a very important livestock center. Fort Worth Union Stockyards opened for business on January 19, 1890, covering 206 acres. On February 7, the Fort Worth Dressed Meat and Packing Company was founded. This facility was operated without profit until purchased by G. W. Simpson of Boston. In an effort to produce revenue, they reached out to the Swift and Armour companies to establish packing houses. By 1886, four stockyards had been built near the railroads. Boston capitalist Greenleif W. Simpson, with a half dozen Boston and Chicago associates, incorporated the Fort Worth Stock Yards Company on March 23, 1893, and purchased the Union Stock Yards and the Fort Worth Packing Company. The Stockyards experienced early success. By 1907, the Stockyards sold a million cattle per year. The stockyards was an organized place where cattle, sheep, and hogs could be bought, sold and slaughtered. Fort Worth remained an important part of the cattle industry until the 1950s. Business suffered due to livestock auctions held closer to where the livestock were originally produced.
The Fort Worth Stockyards now celebrates Fort Worth's long tradition as a part of the cattle industry and was listed on the National Register as a historical district in 1976. The listing included 46 contributing buildings and one other contributing structure.
The Stockyards consist of mainly entertainment and shopping venues that capitalize on the Cowtown image of Fort Worth. Home to the famous boot making company M.L. Leddy's which is located in the heart of the Stockyards and The Maverick Fine Western Wear and Saloon where customers can 'belly up' to the bar, relax and have a cold beer while in the Stockyards; just like they did in the days of the big cattle drives, as they shop around the store. The city of Fort Worth is often referred to as Where the West Begins. Many bars and nightclubs (including Billy Bob's Texas) are located in the vicinity, and the area has a Western motif. There is also an opry and a rodeo. The Fort Worth Stockyards are the last standing stockyards in the United States. Some volunteers still run the cattle drives through the stockyards, a practice developed in the late 19th century by the frontiersman Charles Buffalo Jones, who herded buffalo calves through the streets of Garden City, Kansas.
On April 1, 2011, the Fort Worth Stockyards Stables were remodeled and reopened. They are located next door to the Hyatt hotel in an original Historic Stockyards building that was built in 1912. These stables offer full care boarding, overnight boarding, hourly boarding, horse rentals on the open trails of the Trinity River and carriage rides. Boarders can ride their horses all around the Historic Stockyards.

MERLE HAGGARD Ol' Country Singer Live at Billy Bob's Texas (2004) LIVE
Merle Ronald Haggard born in April 6, 1937 and died in April 6, 2016. Was an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band the Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the twang of Fender Telecaster and the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville sound recordings of the same era.
Billy Bob's Texas is a country & western nightclub located in the Fort Worth Stockyards, Texas, United States, and originally opened in 1981. It promotes itself as The World's Largest Honky Tonk, at 100,000 square feet of interior space and 20 acres of parking space.
Billy Bob Barnett, a Texas A&M University graduate and professional football player, teamed up with nightclub owner and former car salesman, Spencer Taylor. While looking for a location to fit their idea, the men decided upon an abandoned 100,000-square-foot department store that was at one time an open-air cattle barn. With some additional investors, Barnett and Taylor renovated the building's interior and exterior and opened the place to the public on April 1, 1981. Billy Bob's closed in January 1988, and reopened in October 1988 under new ownership and management. Holt Hickman, Don Jury, Steve Murrin and Billy Minick formed the new ownership group.
Mostly known for country music, the venue has also hosted acts such as Bob Hope and B.B. King.
In 1983, Merle Haggard, while on stage, offered each person in the crowd of 5,095, a one-ounce Canadian Club Whiskey with a water chaser. The drinks totaled 40 gallons and at the time, cost $12,737.50. The stunt earned Haggard a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the purchaser of the biggest round ever.
Billy Bob's Texas celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2016. The celebration culminated in November with a weekend of shows from Shooter Jennings, Rival Sons and Willie Nelson.

????Why moving to Texas may not be for you:
????To get pre-approved for a loan and find out how much you qualify for and get zero origination fee, zero lender fee, a low rate, plus $1000 toward closing costs:
1. The People - 1st off, guys and gals, don’t confuse us with Dallas. Over here in Fort Worth, people may smile at you while passing and even crack a joke in the Kroger checkout line. The culture is more friendly than what I hear in other parts of the states.
2. Unique things to do - Stockyards: guys while most people don’t walk around in cowboy hats and boots (unless you move to the county surrounding or are in the stockyards) gun shows, rodeos and bull riding are a big deal here in Fort Worth! It's great walking through the stockyards looking at history and shopping for western wear. There’s a real train you can take your kids on for a ride, a maze for the little ones and much more! Billy Bobs is world famous for the largest honky tonk in the world. And I just went to Coopers BBQ for the first time yesterday, oh my. I’ve had plenty of BBQ in my day and this one takes the cake!
3. But don’t worry if you’re not country folk. Downtown you have Sundance Square - with Billionaire owners the Bass brothers that love to lavish the city with entertainment, comedy, fabulous restaurants, great shopping, and updates continually making it better and keeping it clean. My kids love to go there during the day, and I feel comfortable taking them at night as well. Four Day Weekend is the must-see comedy act, that's cleaner than your typical show.
4. Shopping and housing development - Not only do we have to Bass brothers downtown, but we also have Ross Perot Jr, who has and is continually developing the North side of Fort Worth about 20-30 min up 35 North. Under the name Hillwood, they love developing nice outdoor shopping experiences and community-focused housing, and they are master planners continually innovating ways to get people together more in this increasingly busy world. If this type of living is your desire, reach out to me and I’ll help you locate these new communities.
5. The River District - the newest most modern development right on the Trinity River West of Fort Worth. Guys if you love culture, activities, shopping and dining right within walking distance, this is the hottest new community. 3 minutes from downtown, right on the river - when fully developed this will be the 'it' place to live and visit. Luxury single family home sites are being sold right now pricing from $400K to $2M! and space is limited so if you want in on the action call or text me. I can get you all the information you want.
6. Race track - Top Golf - Easy access to sports stadiums, golf, movies, high end, and outlet shopping. Guys! Fort Worth is awesome! Uh I don’t have enough time to go over all the great shopping places.
And remember you do not have to be a cowboy or cowgirl to live in Fort Worth! Contact me if you are thinking of moving to Fort Worth or the suburbs and I’ll make sure you find the right spot for you.
