Granada- Andalusia, Spain:
Granada is the capital city of the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of four rivers, the Darro, the Genil, the Monachil and the Beiro. It sits at an average elevation of 738 m (2,421 ft) above sea level, yet is only one hour by car from the Mediterranean coast, the Costa Tropical. Nearby is the Sierra Nevada Ski Station, where the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1996 were held.
In the 2005 national census, the population of the city of Granada proper was 236,982, and the population of the entire urban area was estimated to be 472,638, ranking as the 13th-largest urban area of Spain. About 3.3% of the population did not hold Spanish citizenship, the largest number of these people (31%; or 1% of the total population) coming from South America. Its nearest airport is Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport.
The Alhambra, an Arab citadel and palace, is located in Granada. It is the most renowned building of the Islamic historical legacy with its many cultural attractions that make Granada a popular destination among the tourist cities of Spain. The Almohad influence on architecture is also preserved in the Granada neighborhood called the Albaicín with its fine examples of Moorish and Morisco construction. Granada is also well-known within Spain for the University of Granada which has an estimated 82,000 students spread over five different campuses in the city. The pomegranate (in Spanish, granada) is the heraldic device of Granada.
The greatest artistic wealth of Granada is its Spanish-Islamic art — in particular, the compound of the Alhambra and the Generalife. The Generalife is a pleasure palace with attached romantic gardens, remarkable both for its location and layout, as well as for the diversity of its flowers, plants and fountains. The Alhambra is the architectural culmination of the works of Nasrid art that were undertaken in the 13th and 14th centuries, with most of the Alhambra having been built at the time of Yusuf I and Mohammed V, between 1333 and 1354.
Granada, Córdoba, and Spain's Costa del Sol
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Andalucía's Moorish heritage sparkles in the historic capitals of Granada and Córdoba. And the pride of the Reconquista and the power of Queen Isabel and King Ferdinand enliven the region's great sights.

Spain: Christians beat themselves bloody marking Good Friday
Locals from the village of San Vicente de la Sonosierra, in the Spanish autonomous community of La Rioja, congregated on to watch a group of Christian men partake in self-flagellation of the back marking Good Friday.
After approximately 1,000 hits with a mop of cotton, a person in charge of healing the wounds, known as a 'practico', will cut the back three times so that blood can be drawn in act of preventing further medical difficulties.
The tradition is believed to have begun in the late 15th century or early 16th century, and has been forbidden in most parts of Spain.

Tour of Granada on 'When We Ruled Spain Tour' - October 2011
Video highlights and feedback of our tour to Granada in October 2011.
We visited the city of charm and mystery 'Granada' which is situated at the foot of the Sierra Navada. Granada was the last Moorish stronghold in Spain which was conquered by the Christians in 1492. We will visit The Alhambra Palace - the most visited monument of Spain and the best conserved example of Islamic architecture in Spain. The Alhambra Palace was built by the Moors in the 13th and 14th centuries on a hill overlooking Granada and has been added to over the centuries to become a magnificent complex of pink stone courtyards, pools, fountains, grand halls and cool patios, alongside the beautiful Generalife Gardens. A truly magnificent sight to see! For more information, please go to bhstours.com
Travel to Granada: Skiing in Sierra Nevada, Andalucia I Vlog I Spain
First things first, Im so sorry I haven't uploaded for the past weeks. We have been on a long distance travel to the Philippines and there it was impossible to upload anything big. Then past week we have shooting in Cadiz, and for some sort of reason it was impossible too. So my apologies for that.
So, who would have thought you can travel to one of Spain´s hotest destinations and actually ski there, and not just a little ski, but a good quality one with long tracks and endless tapas on the Aprés Ski.
Well, you can and you would if you go to Sierra Nevada, belonging to Granada´s province (so you have the Albayzin just across) and being the second highest mountain in western Europe after the French alps (I didn't know that!).
Hope you enjoy our travels, as always, we did!
Cheers!
PS: A second and big I´m sorry, again, for the lousy sound. Had a problem with my audio recorder and couldn't do it any better.

Spain: Catholic devotees march in chains alongside the Virgin Mary
Thousands of people marched on Friday alongside a hooded, barefoot woman during a religious procession in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a town in northern Spain. The march symbolically offers penance to the Virgin Mary for the death of her son Jesus in Christian tradition.
Every year, volunteer women apply to become among the Las Marias, or women who dress like the Virgin Mary in the annual procession. The Marias always wear a covering over their faces to remain anonymous and march barefoot with the procession for up to six kilometres with chains around their ankles. This year, only one woman was chosen to be a Maria.
Granada, Spain: Albayzín and Alcaicería - Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite
More info about travel to Granada: The Albayzín in Granada is Spain's best old Moorish quarter, with its labyrinthine back lanes and inviting neighborhood squares. The Alcaicería, or silk market, is a tourist trap housed in a modern reconstruction of the original market – but it's fun to explore.

Where the Tallest People Live In the World
Which country's people are the tallest? In fact, we’re so different that we’ve created gender and racial constructs, generational lines, and map borders to make these differences more distinct. One of the most easily distinguished physical differences among human beings is height, which ranges from as small as 2’ 2-1/2” to as tall as 8’ 3” across the board. SUMMARY:
- Our early hominin ancestors lived in conditions very different from ours, though. They first emerged in the Lower Paleolithic Era as early as 3.5 million years ago when their environment was recovering from an ice age that produced a drier climate on the savannas of East Africa.
- The australopithecines were still small and ape-like, though, only growing to about 3’ 11” for females and 4’ 7” for males on average.
- On average, taller people also tend to have higher salaries and higher levels of education. However, these extra inches also come with downsides, including an increased risk for developing certain cancers.
- The tallest women are from Latvia, the Netherlands, Estonia, and the Czech Republic. And it looks like Dutch and Danish men have been trying to outgrow each other!
- The shortest men and women in the world are the Pygmies of the Congo, and they only grow to an average of 4’ 5” and 4’ 1” respectively.
- Men in the Netherlands, as we said, have grown to an average height of 6’, while women in that country measure in at 5’ 7”.
- American men average 5’ 9”, whereas American women average 5’ 4”.
- Indian men also grow to an average of 5’ 5”, but Indian women only get to about 5’ even.
- Canadians are about as tall as Americans, with the men coming to 5’ 9” and the women coming to 5’ 5”.
- Russian men are also pretty tall, with their average height coming to about 5’ 10”; Russian women grow to an average of about 5’ 4”.
- Spanish and Argentinian men and women come out to an average of 5’ 8” and 5’ 3”, while Mexican men and women grow to about 5’ 7” and 5’ 1”.
- Egyptian men come to an average of about 5’ 7” — that sure is a popular height, right? — and Egyptian women come to an average of about 5’ 3”.
