115 Feet Underground at Black Hills Caves Near Mount Rushmore
115 Feet Underground at Black Hills Caves Near Mount Rushmore! These underground caves in Rapid City South Dakota are fun to hike thru and there's a story to be told about how they were discovered. Take a tour with us as we share things to do near Mt Rushmore with kids. One of the best activities we did on our vacation that we'd suggest other families to take while you're there. A great alternative to Jewel Cave and the Wind Caves which are hard to get reservations and expensive. The Black Hills Cave you can walk right in and is inexpensive to tour.

South Dakota Family Trip | Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park
SOUTH DAKOTA FAMILY TRIP
In this vlog we went to:
Badlands National Park:
Mount Rushmore National Monument:
Crazy Horse Memorial:
Custer State Park:
My personal favorite was Crazy Horse Memorial because of all of the rich culture and the variety of what they had to offer - the monument, a historical area with hundreds and hundreds of artifacts, two restaurants, a gift shop, an art exhibit, a buffalo museum, a traditional performance from a man and woman of Native American decent in full regalia who also explained everything as they were performing. It will be amazing to follow the sculpture and see how it turns out in the next decades to come.
The badlands were also awesome, but unless you are a hardcore hiker or photographer, you really only need one day to visit the Badlands.
Custer was beautiful too, but they had so much to offer, and is definitely a place you camp at and explore, or stay at some of their cottages. It was incredibly beautiful.
If you do decide to go to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse in the same day, go to Mt Rushmore first or else you will be disappointed. Be sure to subscribe!

We packed so much into today, but the highlight was definitely getting to see Mount Rushmore. This is a simply magical place that makes you feel so patriotic! It is a must-do activity for every American, and I am so glad we got to experience it as a family.
We also spent the morning at Rushmore Tramway Adventures, which is located in the small town of Keystone, just minutes from Mount Rushmore. We rode a really long chairlift to the top of the mountain and took an Alpine Slide down so fun.
In the afternoon, we went to Rush Mountain Adventure Park which features the amazing Rush Mountain Cave. From the gift shop, you take a hallway that leads you beneath the earth for an hour-long tour of the cave which is truly remarkable.
There are no really tight spaces, so it was enjoyable for all of us. They also have the Rushmore Mountain Coaster, a 7-D Interactive Shooting Ride, and the Soaring Eagle Zip Line all of which was unbelievably fun!

RV TRIP TIP: Mt. Rushmore, Custer SP & the Black Hills of SD
While Mount Rushmore is the most well-known attraction in the Black Hills of South Dakota, there are lots of great things to see and do here. We just scratched the surface on this easy, one-day scenic drive.
Although Yellowstone National Park is probably the most famous place to see bison (buffalo), Custer State Park has one of the largest publicly-owned herds in the world, roaming freely throughout the park and often stopping traffic along the the road.
Connecting Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore National Memorial, the Iron Mountain Road is a work of art in itself. The highway passes through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Black Hills and includes three tunnels that frame Mount Rushmore in the distance. The road is famous for its Pigtail Bridges that allow travelers to gain or lose elevation quickly.
The Needles Highway is a spectacular drive through pine and spruce forests, meadows surrounded by birch and aspen and rugged granite mountains. Completed in 1922, the road's name comes from the needle-like granite formations you'll see along the way. It also has the longest, and coolest, tunnel!
Of course we visit Mount Rushmore National Memorial too, as no trip to the area would be complete without experiencing this amazing site up close. We hike the easy 6/10-mile Presidential Trail for stunning views almost directly beneath the granite faces.
This is only the beginning of the spectacular scenery in the Black Hills. For the more adventurous, be sure to visit Wind Cave National Park and Harney Peak if you have more time to spend in this beautiful part of the world.
We stayed in one of the many full-hook-up commercial RV parks in the area, but there are lots of State Park and National Forest campgrounds to choose from as well.
If you haven't yet visited the Black Hills, maybe this quick snapshot of the area will inspire you to add it to your must-see list. The admission price to the Custer State Park is well worth it!

5TH LONGEST CAVE IN THE WORLD?! - Wind Caves, Black Hills, South Dakota
If you enjoyed, please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! Thank you!!
We woke up to some pretty heavy rain today! Not ideal weather for hiking Harney Peak, so we changed plans and decided to go check out the Wind Caves. They were incredible! 140 miles discovered so far, and it's estimated to be only 10% of the actual size of the cave. We also went to Hot Springs, SD and swam at Evan's Plunge, which was actually a really fun indoor swimming spot. There were these rope swings to swing across and little to no people could actually make it all the way across. I tried once and got to the last rope before I wore out and fell in! It really thrashed my arms though, haha. We ended the night by hanging out at a grocery store called Sonny's and then getting some PIzza Hut pizza. The rain may have altered our plans, but we made a great day out of it regardless! :)

Caves, Carvings and Cowboys - Black Hills, South Dakota
In July 2010 my family and I took a road trip to South Dakota. We stopped in Watertown, Sioux Falls and Rapid City. We saw Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Pactola Lake, Wind Cave, Spearfish Canyon-Bridal Falls and Roughlock Falls, Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park, Deadwood, and Sturgis. We ended our trip with a Chuckwagon Dinner and Show at Fort Hays. There were flowers, lots of hills, rocks, animals. It was a beautiful road trip for the family. I loved the part in the cave when they turned out all the lights, and the Wildlife Loop was really fun. Especially when the buffalo were holding up traffic, and the burrows were eating from our hands. The weather was great, too. Would recommend this family trip. Great for all ages. The song is called, My Wish, by Rascal Flatts.
