Pirates made their mark on the history of St. Augustine
St. Augustine has had more pirate activity than any other city in the continental United States. For over 450 years, Florida's Historic Coast has withstood every manner of attack, be it pirate or weather. St. Augustine would not be the same were it not for pirates.

Cannon Firing at Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine, Florida
The resident pirate did an excellent job of explaining how the cannon firing worked -- the preparation, loading and shooting of the breech-loading cannon. This cannon sports a 6-pound cannonball which was not actually fired out of the cannon. Instead, I believe two magazines were loaded with gun powder and spanish moss was used for wadding. A ropse fuse lit using a magnifying lense and the sunlight to set the big BANG! I found it LOUD and interesting.
