Kayak NJ Black River Paddle Demo Day II 052314
Check out for the footage from the Camera Buddy.
Headed back to the Black River to get some better footage with the Personal Camera Buddy for my friend and inventor of the PCB Will Jimeno. The unit takes a little getting used to but is really fantastic. Ventured south on the Black River below the Rt. 206 bridge but before that went under another bridge that only had a few inches of clearance with me almost laying flat on the bottom of my boat. Went as far as I could before the river became over grown and hard to follow which I heard happens in this river. Getting late in the day so I decided to return back upstream to the take out but not before collecting some trash along the way. Around the bridges was where I found trash. Folks driving along heaving there cups and HAPPY MEAL containers out the window and into the river. REMEMBER: PICK IT UP AND PACK IT OUT!

Video of The Herb Farm, Chester Twp NJ - Real Estate Homes for Sale
For more information visit
From the day The Herb Farm sign hung on its cedar post announcing that luncheon, tea and supper might be obtained within, the story partakes of the miraculous. So wrote philanthropist and socialite, Elizabeth Donnell Kay, in her memoir detailing her adventurous transformation of an abandoned circa 1750's stone barn into what would become a widely known restaurant and thriving herb retail business. Acreage, including a barn with stone walls three-feet thick, had been purchased by Elizabeth and her husband, Alfred, in 1937 as an adjunct to their 300 acre country estate along the Black River. Already much fascinated with herbs, Mrs. Kay soon conceived of restoring the barn for use as a restaurant, entitling it The Herb Farm. Promoted by radio show host Martha Deane and featured in Duncan Hines' Adventures in Good Eating, the restaurant came to serve as many as 275 diners a day. Growing in surrounding fields were the herbs which became the basis for the restaurant's flavorful meals and spurred a mail order business that saw the Farm's annual yield of 13,000 plants shipped as far as Japan.
With the death of its owners, The Herb Farm was parceled off from the main estate. The restaurant and almost 6 acres were sold as a residence while the barns and land belonging to Mrs. Kay were gifted to the State in preservation as the Elizabeth Kay Environmental Center. Inherent to the legacy of Chester Township, The Herb Farm has been featured in historic chronicles including: The Somerset Hills: Chester Then and Now and Images of America: Chester. Historic photos of The Herb Farm can also be spotted at Chester's Town Hall and on post cards in local venues — introducing the lately arrived to what once was.
No less miraculous is The Herb Farm's transformation from a storied landmark to a luxurious residence. Purchased in 2010 by its present owners, Hiland Hall Turner, Architects was trusted with providing restorative design and a sensitive expansion. Today the home comprises twelve rooms including five bedrooms, and four full and two half baths. Original stone walls provide the framework for interiors inspired by the 16th century estates of England and France. Groin vaults, barreled ceilings, chestnut and oak beams, wood-burning fireplaces, marble and walnut flooring, mahogany casement windows and doors infuse a grand European milieu. Complete radiant floor heating, designer kitchen including a La Cornue range, marble baths and master suite with balcony and custom dressing room are but some of the home's many indulgent features.
Outdoors, stone walls frame the David Austin English rose garden and anchor the crushed stone terrace. Set in the meadow lawn is a stone tea house. Legal rental structures on the grounds include a charming one bedroom cottage and a carriage house with two bedroom apartment and three-car garage.
Is This The Scariest Bridge In America?
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland reaches nearly 200 feet in certain parts and measures 4.3-miles long from end to end - and for some motorists, getting behind the wheel and driving across the bridge is simply out of the question.

Helderberg Escarpment, John Thacher State Park, Indian Ladder Trail, New York - Travels With Phil
Helderberg Escarpment, John Thacher State Park, Indian Ladder Trail, New York - The Helderberg Escarpment rises up dramatically out of the surrounding area. The John Thacher State Park makes up a large part of the escarpment. The Indian Ladder Trail is where in olden days the local Mohawks would found a spot where they could scale the cliffs more easily. The views are very impressive. - Travels with Phil copyrighted by Phil Konstantin -

Las Vegas, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park
Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is a public recreation area 20 miles south-west of Las Vegas.
The spring-fed creek and grassy meadows formed an oasis. In the 1800s, this area was used extensively by outlaws involved in Indian slave trading, horse stealing and raids upon passing caravans.
In 1948, Chester Lauck, who ran national radio shows and made movies, purchased the Ranch and named it the Bar Nothing Ranch. The area became a retreat for his family from their lifestyle in Los Angeles. The Laucks built the main sandstone residence, now the park office and visitor center. They also built a boys camp for their sons. Soon paying guests expanded this operation.
In 1955, the Laucks sold the ranch to German actress Vera Krupp. Vera, born in Germany, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1947. She married German industrialist Alfried Krupp, her fourth husband, in 1952. Though Mr. Krupp was not allowed to come to the United States due to his conviction for war crimes in World War II, his wife came back to the states. They divorced in 1957. Vera renamed the ranch Spring Mountain Ranch and hoped to raise a strain of white-faced Herefords and Brahmas.
Mrs. Krupp lived at the ranch until 1964, when she moved to Bel Air due to poor health. During her ownership she modified the interior of the main house and added a swimming pool and bedroom with a secret passage. In addition, a guest house, various sheds and a kennel for her Great Danes were built in the service area of the ranch.
A famous story from the Krupp period involved the theft of the Krupp Diamond. On April 10, 1959, as Vera and ranch employee Harold Brotherson ate dinner, three men forced their way into the main house, stole the 33.6-carat blue-white diamond and fled. It was recovered six weeks later in New Jersey. The diamond was sold as part of the estate of Vera Krupp after she died in 1967.
Richard Burton bought the Krupp diamond on May 17, 1968 at an auction in New York for $307,000, and presented to his wife Elizabeth Taylor with the diamond on their yacht, the Kalizma while it was moored on the River Thames in London.
Taylor died in 2011 and the diamond was auctioned at Christie's by her estate on 16 December 2011, having been renamed the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond. It was sold for $8,818,500 (including buyer's premium, $9.39 million as of 2017), to the South Korean conglomerate E-Land, setting a record price per karat US$265,697 for a colorless diamond.
In 1967, Mrs. Krupp sold the ranch to Howard Hughes for a reputed $625,000. At this time, Hughes was living in the Desert Sands Hotel which he acquired shortly before buying the ranch. Hughes's involvement in southern Nevada began in the 1950s with frequent visits to the area. He began investing heavily in Las Vegas real estate in 1967, eventually owning several major hotel/casinos, vast tracts of undeveloped land surrounding the city and more than 700 mining claims.
Spring Mountain Ranch, as far as it is known, never hosted Hughes himself. It was mainly used by Hughe's employees, particularly Robert Maheu, his right-hand man. The 528-acre property sold in 1972 to business partners Fletcher Jones and William Murphy for $1.5 million. At the time, this sale fueled reports that Hughes was divesting himself of Las Vegas properties due to difficulties with Nevada gaming authorities. Hughes died in 1976.
Fletcher Jones and William Murphy, partners in many land development deals, wanted to build a large equestrian-oriented residential neighborhood that would support up to 2,000 people. A public outcry encouraged the Clark County Planning Commission to stall their application for rezoning. When stiff opposition to the plans formed, Jones announced his intention to auction the property.
In 1968, the Bureau of Land Management completed a master development plan for the area. This plan included a relatively high level of recreation development and met with stiff opposition from environmental groups. A new plan, developed jointly with Nevada State Parks, later became final and Spring Mountain Ranch became a state park in 1973.
In 1976, Spring Mountain Ranch was entered into the Historic Register of Historic Places as a historic district.
Because of the higher elevation, the ranch offers a diverse opportunity for plant study. Four plant communities are represented: Desert Scrub, Black brush, Pinon-Juniper, and Riparian. Plants typical of the desert as well as woodland can be seen, and with adequate rainfall, the spring brings a burst of wildflowers. Common species sighted are desert marigold, globe mallow, brittlebush, Joshua Tree, Mojave yucca, and indigo bush.
Animal life is diverse but nocturnal, so many species go unseen. Typical desert animals include a variety of lizards and snakes, antelope, ground squirrels, jackrabbits, cottontail rabbits, kit foxes, and coyotes. Higher elevation species include rock squirrel, badger, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.

I walk in Downtown Newark, New Jersey from Newark Penn Station and travel along Market Street, Broad Street, and Raymond Boulevard.
From Wikipedia:
Newark is the most populous city in the U.S. state of New Jersey and the seat of Essex County. As one of the nation's major air, shipping, and rail hubs, the city had a population of 281,764 in 2016, making it the nation's 67th-most populous municipality, after being ranked 63rd in the nation in 2000.
Settled in 1666 by Puritans from New Haven Colony, Newark is one of the oldest European cities in the United States. Its location at the mouth of the Passaic River (where it flows into Newark Bay) has made the city's waterfront an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Today, Port Newark–Elizabeth is the primary container shipping terminal of the busiest seaport on the American East Coast. In addition, Newark Liberty International Airport was the first municipal commercial airport in the United States, and today is one of its busiest.
Several leading companies have their headquarters in Newark, including Prudential, PSEG, Panasonic Corporation of North America, Audible.com, IDT Corporation, and Manischewitz. A number of important higher education institutions are also in the city, including the Newark campus of Rutgers University (which includes law and medical schools and the Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies); the New Jersey Institute of Technology; and Seton Hall University's law school. The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey sits in the city as well. Local cultural venues include the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark Symphony Hall, the Prudential Center and the Newark Museum.

Zoos are a place for the average person to see animals they might not ever get the chance to observe in the wild. Zoos also have the purpose of conserving certain species, trying to make sure they don't die out to extinction.. and in other cases they can be a sanctuary against poaching and hunters.
Levan Merritt 1986
As encounters with great apes go, Harambe wasn't the first incident of a child falling into a gorilla enclosure. It happened at the Durrell Wildlife Park in Jersey, Channel Islands in the UK, when Five year old Levan Merrit somehow fell into the zoo's gorilla enclosure, falling far enough that he lost consciousness when he hit the ground.
Beijing Zoo 2009
Pandas. They're endangered, and they're absolutely adorable. That cuteness draws in many crazy panda-fans for Gugu, a panda at the Beijing Zoo. People come from all over to see him, and more than a few have snuck into his enclosure.
Pittsburgh zoo, 2012
For all of these stories, a surprising number don't end with someone being killed, considering they're usually just feet from dangerous and unpredictable predators. But fatalities unfortunately do still happen sometimes, as was the case for two year old Maddox Derkosh.
Detroit Zoo, 1990
The Detroit zoo is a popular destination for many who wish to admire the wildlife of the world, and apparently also for those who like going where they shouldn’t be. This time though, the story has a happy ending, and the man had a good reason for jumping in. 33-year-old Rick Swope was enjoying his day at the Detroit zoo until he came across the chimpanzee exhibit.
Berlin Zoo, 2009
The case of the Berlin zoo polar bear attack incident in 2009 is both mysterious and sketchy, and not much is known right down to the name of the woman involved in this incident on our list.
Cleveland Metro parks Zoo, 2015
Once again, another case of a two-year-old boy being held on top of the protective railing and falling into an enclosure with several dangerous animals.
Santiago Metropolitan zoo
Suicide is never the answer. No matter what you might think, someone's going to be devastated by it, your community will be impacted, your loved ones will be at a loss without you and you'll be sorely missed by many.
Little Rock Zoo, 2015
A young child went to the Little Rock zoo with his father and grandfather for some fun, and multi generational bonding time.
Brookfield Zoo, 1996
Here we have a more feel-good story. A young child fell into the gorilla exhibit, and was set upon by a terrifying silverback female gorilla named Binti Jua.
Toronto Zoo, 2016
A visitor to the Toronto Zoo must have really like her hat, because she jumped down from the observation deck and right next to a flimsy fence that had a tiger behind it, in order to retrieve it. Amidst people yelling at her, calling her a moron, the woman leaped down and grabbed the hat while the tiger pounced on the fence separating them, desperately trying to get at her.
