In the UK, a man is literally making a meal out of finding food on the street.
Pavements, car parks and hedgerows may look full of weeds, but a lot of them are edible - and apparently quite tasty.
STORY-LINE:
Cars, concrete, noise - and weeds.
But to some, these plants represent a source of food.
David Winnard has carved out a career for himself as an urban forager.
He walks around Manchester studying - and harvesting - the edible plants that grow on the streets.
So, we're literally in the middle of Manchester, the city centre's just over there with all the big buildings and we've just come down this side street now to look at what most people would think of as a wasteland covered in weeds, I see it as botanical heaven and foraging potential. Especially with this plant which is mugwort. And mugwort is closely related to wormwood, which is the plant you make absinth with. Really common in these parts. This is a plant you can make a herbal tea with and the benefit of that is that if you have it just before bed there's chemicals in it that help stimulate the parts of the brain that help you remember your dreams. So, if you do dream at night you'll wake in the morning and think you've had really vivid dreams. You actually haven't had any more vivid dreams than what you'd usually have, you just remember them very clearly, he says.
Many of the plants that Winnard collects are disregarded by the untrained eye as weeds.
While local governments spend millions on controlling what they see as a problem, Winnard says many weeds could be harvested by locals, such as Japanese knotweed, which has thick red stems, can grow through concrete yet makes a great replacement for rhubarb.
And then there's all the fruit growing in public places from apples, blackberries, cherries and pears.
And a lot of wild plants are also medicinal.
This is coltsfoot. Coltsfoot is a wonderful plant. It's a spring flowering plant - unusually, botanically, with most plants that produce their leaves first and then flower later in the year, coltsfoot actually produces its flower first in February and March and into April and then the leaves come later in the year. But once you can see these obvious leaves you know to come back earlier in 2016 to come and find them, to come and find the flower. And if you chop up some of the flowers, which look like dandelions and put them in honey then, if you have a really, really chesty cough, take a spoonful of that and the coltsfoot will help to loosen the mucus off the chest. It's the active ingredient in most branded cough lozenges and things like that, Winnard explains.
Winnard says there are around 200 edible and medicinal species of plants growing in and around Manchester. Some examples include large bittercress, which has a strong horseradish flavour; stinging nettle, which can be made into a soup or pesto; and medowsweet, which is used to treat high blood pressure.
Aside from herbs and fruit, there are also many edible flowers that grow in the city, such as Japanese rose, which has purple petals that can be mixed with vodka and sugar to make a liquor tasting of Turkish delight; and ox eye daisy that looks like a large daisy and can be used as a health tonic.
Winnard runs workshops teaching people all of this.
But of all the edible plants, his personal passion is mushrooms.
Winnard's passion for the outdoors was inspired by his grandmother.
Now instead of sweets, just like his grandmother, Winnard prefers mushrooms. And since it is common to find a glut of mushrooms, he recommends drying them.
Despite this, Winnard claims never to have had food poisoning. The only thing he doesn't eat is meat.
