What to Know about Visiting Blarney Castle in Ireland.
Kissing the Blarney Stone and being gifted the gift of gab is a typical tourist stop when they visit Ireland. Blarney Castle is located about 30 minutes from the city of Cork and can be a fun day trip from Cork. Here are a few things you should know when you go to visit Blarney Castle.
1. Blarney Castle is Popular with Tour Groups: Blarney castle can get overrun with tour groups during the high season and even sometimes in the off season. Tour buses usually start showing up about 30 minutes after the grounds open. So to beat the lines be there first thing in the morning or visit late in the afternoon closer to closing time when most tour companies have left.
2. Don't Expect to See Period Pieces in the Castle: Blarney castle is mostly an empty ruin of a castle. The rooms are empty and they have little to no furniture in them. They do have renderings of how the rooms used to look.
3. Getting Up to the Blarney Stone Can Be Claustrophobic: getting up to the top and getting back down from kissing the Blarney Stone can be a claustrophobic person's nightmare. The circular staircases are very small and tight (the castle is a few hundred years old) and with all the tourists it can take some time to get to the top. So if you have limited mobility you may want to pass.
4. Kissing the Blarney Stone: Yes, you will kiss a stone that millions of others have kissed, so get over the hygiene issues. You will lie on your back and an attendant will help push you over the edge to kiss the stone upside down and then drag you back.
5. There is More Than Just the Castle: the grounds contain a manor house you can visit, a number of gardens that you can check out. We liked the Fern Garden with the waterfall and the Poison Garden which has plants that are poisonous to humans, so you may want to pay attention a bit more to your little ones if you pass by.
6. Don't Come Hungry: there are a couple of food options on the grounds at Blarney Castle, but nothing to write home about, so it may be best to eat before you come or have a snack in your bag.
7. Getting There: Blarney Castle is about 20-30 minutes from Cork by car. There are buses and tour companies that can bring you our to the castle grounds daily.

Blarney Castle was the second part of our day out. We did enjoy the trip to the beautiful castle and gardens. It is one of the best tourist attractions in Ireland and you simply have to visit it. Caves, castles, ruins and more visit Blarney.

If ever happen to you passing through Ireland, don't forget to stop by Blarney Town where there's located Blarney Castle & Gradens.
To be honest, I'm amazed by this garden more than the Castle. Blarney Gardens contain huge collection of specimen trees, many of them rare and unusual which come from all around the world. Each corner of the Garden is just amazing. I think you will know what I mean after watching the video :)

A Journey into Blarney Castle's Dungeon, County Cork, Ireland
Photos and video from my visit to Blarney Castle located in County Cork, Ireland. View the beauty of the pathway leading to the castle. A quick kiss of the stone. *There really isn't a stone. Just a castle wall. There are many rumors about things that are done to the stone but I still kissed it as I may never have the opportunity again. Next, head back down to the dungeon where I shuffled my way to the end to a small room of nothing. A bit of camera noise due to the protective case used when traveling into unknown places. And who needs a guitar and drums when you can play a harp! You'll see.

Blarney Castle it is not only the famous Blarney Stone in a castle but poison garden, lots of walking routes with an interesting theme and a lake. I would definitely come back one day in a good weather to have an extra hour break for sitting and knitting. What do you think?

Visiting the Beautiful Blarney Castle & Gardens Cork Ireland
Blarney Castle in cinematic: Part of the tour is to visit the beautiful Blarney Castle and Garden. Sad to say, we were not able to kiss the Blarney Stone because of the long queue to go up to the Castle. We just walked around and explore their gorgeous garden.
Blarney Castle is a medieval stronghold. The castle originally dates from before 1200. Around 1210 this was replaced by a stone fortification. Kissing The Blarney Stone is typical for tourist as it said the stone endows the kisser with the gift of the gab 'talking in a flattering way'.

Blarney Castle (Irish: Caisleán na Blarnan) is a medieval stronghold in Blarney, near Cork, Ireland, and the River Martin. Though earlier fortifications were built on the same spot, the current keep was built by the MacCarthy of Muskerry dynasty, a cadet branch of the Kings of Desmond, and dates from 1446.The Blarney Stone is among the machicolations of the castle.

No visit to Ireland is complete without visiting Blarney Castle and kissing the famous and infamous Blarney Stone. By kissing the Blarney Stone, you are supposed to now have the Gift of Eloquence and the Gift of Gab. There are several versions of the legend of how the Blarney Stone got its powers, which I include in the video. I enjoyed the whole experience, including seeing both the exterior and interior of the castle itself, which was built in 1446.

in this video, I will give you a handful of tips if you are planning to visit Blarney castle.

It is one of Ireland's most popular tourist destinations,
it is located 18 minutes drive from Cork city, or if you are traveling from Dublin it is 3 hours and 11 mins.
I would highly suggest, that you either take the bus tour, or, Stay in a hotel or b&b for a night in Cork City.
Why do a lot of people visit Blarney castle, it is because of the famous 'blarney stone', people from all over the world come here just to kiss the stone. It is said that, after kissing the stone you will gain the gift of eloquence.
If you are a Germa-phobe, I would not recommend, kissing the stone. and, if you are patient, be prepared to wait, as the line is quite long especially during the peak season.
Tip number one, enjoy the rest of the gardens. The Blarney stone is not just the highlights of the place, there are various types of garden around the castle, the one I recommend is the Poison Garden, where you will find different species of plants that are poisonous to humans, and they even have a cannabis plant inside a cage, Yes, that's right, it is in a cage.
Tip number two, Plan your visit ahead of time, Blarney is huge, you can spend the entire day, not being able to cover the entire place, and an important piece of advice, is, if you are part of a tour group, you are given limited amount of time to spend, and unfortunately, you can spend your entire time lining up to kiss the blarney stone, that is why, you make sure you know where you are going and what you will do ahead of time.
Tip number 3, Bring your food and drink, like I said earlier, blarney is a big place, you will be on your toes and will do a lot of walking, and it is important to get your energy up, plus, the food and drink sold inside the place are quite expensive.
Tip number 4, visit the Blarney House first, for me the main highlights of the place is the blarney house, Blarney House is a Scottish Baronial mansion designed by John Lanyon and is now open to the public in the summer months. The house sits in the middle of the parklands situated less than 200m south of the great castle itself. Built-in 1874, it has now been restored to its former glory. The house is situated overlooking Blarney Lake and features a splendid interior that is well worth a visit while in County Cork.
Best time to visit is between spring and the summer, the house will be surrounded by flowers like pink roses, perfect for your instagram posts, but, the house is located way beyond the castle and it is quite a distance that is why I will suggest visiting that first when you arrive.

Now that might have something to do with the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of our tower. Kiss it and you'll never again be lost for words.

For over 200 years, world statesmen, literary giants, and legends of the silver screen have joined the millions of pilgrims climbing the steps to kiss the Blarney Stone and gain the gift of eloquence. Its powers are unquestioned but its story still creates debate.
Once upon a time, visitors had to be held by the ankles and lowered head first over the battlements. Today, we are rather more cautious of the safety of our visitors. The Stone itself is still set in the wall below the battlements. To kiss it, one has to lean backwards (holding on to an iron railing) from the parapet walk. The prize is a real one as once kissed the stone bestows the gift of eloquence.
Cormac McCarthy, King of Munster
The lower walls are fifteen feet, built with an angle tower by the McCarthys of Muskerry. It was subsequently occupied at one time by Cormac McCarthy, King of Munster, who is said to have supplied four thousand men from Munster to supplement the forces of Robert the Bruce at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314. Legend has it that the latter king gave half of the Stone of Scone to McCarthy in gratitude. This, now known as the Blarney Stone, was incorporated in the battlements where it can now be kissed.
Queen Elizabeth
The Earl of Leicester was commanded by Queen Elizabeth I to take possession of the castle. Whenever he endeavoured to negotiate the matter McCarthy always suggested a banquet or some other form of delay, so that when the queen asked for progress reports a long missive was sent, at the end of which the castle remained untaken. The queen was said to be so irritated that she remarked that the earl's reports were all 'Blarney'.
Cromwell's General, Lord Broghill
The castle was eventually invested by Cromwell's General, Lord Broghill, who, planting a gun on Card Hill opposite and above the lake below the present mansion or new castle, succeeded in breaking the tower walls. However, when his men entered the keep, he found two old retainers, the main garrison had fled by the underground caves situated below the battlements known as the Badgers Caves. There are three passages, one to Cork, one to the lake and one seemingly to Kerry. At any rate, all had gone together with the reputed gold plate.
