Laura W. Bush opening Corpus Christi Public Libraries Centennial Celebration on October 4, 2009.
Laura W. Bush opened our centennial celebration on October 4, 2009 at La Retama Central Library. It isn't the first time that this famous librarian has inaugurated a milestone in our library's history. While Mrs. Bush addressed adults in the atrium with Blucher Park as her foreground, a group of children awaited her arrival in the Mary and Jeff Bell Children's Library. These twenty-seven children were selected by administrators from all Corpus Christi school districts to listen to Mrs. Bush read the book she co-authored with her daughter, Jenna. Each child received a signed copy of Read All About It as a memento of their time with the former first lady of the United States and of Texas.
