Scuba Dive Blue Grotto Springs Williston Florida
Graduation Class of April 2009 at Blue Grotto Spring. Blue Grotto is actually a sinkhole with good visibility. Depths reach 100 ft. upon entering the sink you will encounter a very large cavern with writing on the walls. At a depth of 30 feet there is a fresh air bell so you can take off your mask and breath some fresh air. Continuing down, there is a large shaft that slopes down at a 90-degree angle.
Our Last Dive of 2017 at the Blue Grotto, Williston FL - Part 1
Ronan and I were invited to an event hosted by Calypso Tampa Dive Shop. They held their 2nd annual Last Dive of the Year and BBQ at the Blue Grotto in Williston, FL on New Years Eve morning. We got there at 8:30am and got in the water around 9:30am. It was SO cold outside (temps in the mid 40s). But the water at the Blue Grotto is spring fed, so the water is always at around 72-74 degrees regardless of the outside temps.
Man eating Kracken in Blue Grotto, Williston, Florida
Stumbled across this ancient beast in Williston, Florida. As you can see, my dive buddy and I barely escaped with our lives. We have only this creature's fickle tastes to thank for our narrow escape.

Blue Grotto Cavern Dive 7
We took a trip to Ocala Florida to dive all the popular fresh water springs in the surrounding areas. Day one: Devils Den; Day two: Blue Grotto; Day three Crystal and Rainbow river; Day four: Ginnie Springs (including Ginnie, Devils eye, and Devils ear); Day five: Blue Grotto (again). We are using the GoPro HD camera with underwater housing. Halfway through our trip we bought the flat lens underwater housing- specifically made for scuba diving- which dramatically improved the quality of our videos, as you will see. Devils Den is in Williston, Fl and consists of a fresh water spring that's about 50 feet below ground at the surface. Its considered an underground open water cavern because you can see surface at all times. The water in all the springs is a cool 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The dive is interesting because there are a few cave entrances and several overhead swim throughs that are fun. Visibility was 50-75 feet. Blue Grotto (also located in Williston, FL) is similar to Devils Den in that it is an open water cavern. It's much larger in size and goes deeper. Blue Grotto has a pressurized under water air bubble which is great for safety stops. This cavern goes down to about 100ft and can get fairly dark, so a flashlight is necessary. There are a few diving platforms underwater for training or if you just need a moment to relax. Visibility was about 100ft. This was one of our favorite dives, which is why we chose to dive it a second day. Kings cavern on Crystal River (located in Crystal River, Fl) is a small cavern that sits about 50 feet below surface and penetrates about 40 feet in. Visibility here during our dive was approximately 15-20 feet and its been said that it doesn't get much better than that. This was a short dive in a small, rather dark cavern on a river. There are several surrounding springs that we explored after the cavern that are pretty as well. Later that same day we did an hour-long drift dive down Rainbow River, which is a popular location for many reasons. Visibility is beyond 150ft and the current is a slow leisurely pace. There are several springs that are beautiful, lots of fish to see and even a small cavern to explore. Ginnie Springs (located in High Springs, Fl) is a world famous cave and cavern dive location and one that we were very excited about. Jacques Cousteau referred to Ginnie Springs as visibility forever- and that's exactly what it was. Crystal clear spring water with multiple unique caverns, plenty of fresh water fish to entertain you and beautiful limestone formations, this was another of our favorites. This site encompasses a couple different individual dives including Devils eye, Devils ear and Ginnie. There are many cave systems that go back for miles, but cave certification is required. The location is a popular campground and hangout for locals, so it can get busy, but its well worth fighting through the crowd to get to the water. This trip was quite an experience for us and we learned that while your on the surface everything can go wrong but once you submerge yourself in fresh water springs, none of it matters. Some beautiful dives with my favorite person, making bubbles the soundtrack of our summer.

Dive Blue Grotto (22 Apr.07) Florida
Here's a Dive I did when I first got my camera housing. I was still experimenting with lights and camera control. This was shot at Blue Grotto, a natural spring in upper Florida. Enjoy!
