Breckenridge is a Colorado town at the base of the Rocky Mountains’ Tenmile Range. It's known for its ski resort, year-round alpine activities and Gold Rush history. The Victorian core of this former mining town is preserved as the Breckenridge National Historic District, running primarily along Main Street, with colorfully painted buildings from the 1880s and '90s housing shops, galleries and restaurants.
Set at the foot of the marvelous Tenmile Range, Breck is a surviving mining town with a vibrant historic district. The down-to-earth vibe is a refreshing change from Colorado's glitzier resorts, and the family-friendly ski runs and gold-nugget history make it Summit County's most atmospheric destination. Regardless of whether it’s snow or shine, the BreckConnect Gondola up to the base of Peak 8 is where the fun begins.
The vast, hulking mountains here rise and fall, merging seamlessly into one another to present a perfect alpine backdrop. Laced with ski runs and hiking trails and stitched together with pine groves, they blaze gold in the morning, glow pink at dusk and fade into a deep shadowy blue as the sky pales then darkens, revealing endless stars best viewed from a frothing hot tub next to the roaring Blue River.

Blue Mesa Reservoir is part of the Curecanti National Recreation Area and at a depth of 341 feet, the reservoir is great for boaters, campers, rvers, hiking, biking and fisherman alike. We recently had the opportunity to check out Blue Mesa Outpost RV Park and loved our stay in our motorhome. It was super close to the lake (boat launch) and we got some boating in while we were there also.
An interesting fact: Blue Mesa Reservoir is the largest lake trout and Kokanee salmon fishery in the United States! We highly recommend taking the family here if you are looking for camping in colorado!

Hoosier Pass elevation 11,542 ft (3,518 m) is a high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado in the United States. The name derives from Indiana, nicknamed the Hoosier State, which was the original home of many pioneers.
Known as a Continental divide between two Forests, its a breath-taking scenic drive down a windy road into a small well-known ski town.

The historic Town of Breckenridge is the Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Summit County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 4,540 at the 2010 United States Census. The town also has many part-time residents, as many people have vacation homes in the area. The town is located at the base of the Tenmile Range. Summer in Breckenridge attracts outdoor enthusiasts with hiking trails, wildflowers, fly-fishing in the Blue River, mountain biking, nearby Lake Dillon for boating, white water rafting, alpine slides, and many shops and restaurants up and down Main Street. The historic buildings along Main Street with their clapboard and log exteriors add to the charm of the town. Every year, Breckenridge hosts the Breckenridge Festival of Film, established in 1981, Ullr Fest every January, as well as an annual Fourth of July parade.

At 12,100 feet, the Continental Divide separates the eastern and western halves of the United States. A little parking lot and restroom are all the facilities available; no curios or kiosks; and a well-maintained footpath to a breathtaking observation point right at the snow line. Even in late July, patches of frost remain.
For the more intrepid, a well-worn dirt path follows the ridge line at the top of the range. An exhilarating walk in clean mountain air will never be forgotten.

Summer Activities
Common activities include mountain biking and road biking, hiking, and fly fishing. For mountain biking, Breckenridge hosts innumerable trails such as the Peaks trail which connects Breckenridge and Frisco and the Flume Loops which explore the Highlands Area. The 9-mile (14 km) tarmaced Breckenridge to Friso bike track parallels Highway 9 and is a popular ride. The large number of passes in Summit County also attract road bikers. The nearby fourteener Quandary Peak gains the most attention for hikers. Fly fishing is also popular. Breckenridge Ski Resort hosts the community's most-visited ticketed attraction, the annual Summer Fun Park from June-Sept. on the slopes of Peak 8 with attractions from everything from Jeep tours to chairlift rides to mountain biking.
