*Have you ever missed a gig due to a breakdown or other...

Riivertown Bluegrass Society - September 2014 - Jus' Cauz Set 2
From the Rivertown Bluegrass Society's archives, not previously on YouTube: Rivertown Bluegrass Society's September 2014 concert featuring the second set by Jus' Cauz Band from Danville, VA.
The Jus' Cauz Bluegrass Band is a high-energy bluegrass band based in Danville, Virginia, and is one of the most popular bands in south- central and south-western Virginia. Formed in 2010 from the the highly-popular Shallow Creek Band, Jus’ Cauz has played throughout the eastern United States and is an award-winning band. Most recently, Jus’ Cauz was named the South Carolina State Band Champion as part of RenoFest 2014, and the 2012 Best Bluegrass Band in Virginia. Jus' Cauz is a multi-talented quintet featuring Mark Hudson on guitar and vocals, David Lewis on mandolin and vocals, Jason Flinchum on bass, Mark Wallace on banjo and vocals, and special guest fiddler Tim Martin. A blend of tight harmonies and skillful musicianship, the band showcases their musical and songwriting abilities while acknowledging their traditional folk, bluegrass, and gospel roots.
Always growing in popularity and maintaining an ambitious touring and recording schedule, the band released its debut album in 2013 and has recently finished its second album entitled Jus’ Cauz: Jus’ Bluegrass, which is a traditional bluegrass album. Later this year, the band will record its third album, a traditional gospel album. The Jus’ Cauz Band is in demand for local events, benefits, shows, and bluegrass festivals, and notable venues and performances include Song of the Mountains, National Public Radio's Back to the Blue Ridge, Blue Ridge Music Center, the Luray, Blue Ridge Folk Life, Amelia, Wayside, and Virginia Folk Music Association bluegrass festivals, and opening for musical groups such as Dailey & Vincent, James King, and Little Roy and Lizzy Long. The band has also been invited to showcase at the 2015 Cabin Fever Pickin’ Party in Virginia Beach, Virginia, will be featured at Renofest 2015, and will also be highlighted in an upcoming documentary about the Rivertown Bluegrass Society in Conway, South Carolina.
In 2013, the band’s debut album Then & There showcased the songwriting abilities of Mark Hudson and Mark Wallace, in addition to traditional bluegrass and gospel standards. Featured on NPR’s Back to the Blue Ridge, the album has been hailed by critics, disc jockeys, and local press and media as a wonderful collection of new and standard songs, showcasing the wide range of musical abilities of each member in the band.

The Johnson County Old Time Fiddlers Convention in Laurel Bloomery is older, but far smaller, than the Old Fiddlers Convention in nearby Galax, Virginia's Felts Park which held it's 80th convention this August. The Laurel Bloomery convention is far older having been first held in 1925 in the auditorium of Johnson County High School, now a performance venue called Heritage Hall. Now celebrating it's 90th consecutive year, the Johnson County Old Time Fiddlers Convention is believed to be the oldest such convention in the Appalachian region. The genre in competition here is strictly old time acoustic although you will hear bluegrass in the campground pickin' sessions (Galax has both bluegrass and old time competition). The convention is hosted by Jackie Warden at her Old Mill Music Park and is produced by her and staffed by her many friends in the old-time music community from Watauga and Ashe County in North Carolina, Washington County in Virginia, Johnson County in Tennessee, and further afield in the surrounding southern Appalachians. Having this long running convention in his Old Mill Music Park was the dream of Jackie's late husband, Doug Warden, and the facility he created has long been a wonderful asset to this community.
