Port Huron is one of those cities that's really taking its time to do its waterfront right. The Blue Water River Walk is approximately one mile of beautiful St. Claire river shoreline and features absolutely incredible views of the water. The River Walk is one of the highlights of Port Huron and its existence alone enriches the heritage and the legacy of the natural habitat.

Blue Water Bridge: Construction and Dedication Celebrations, 1938

The Blue Water Bridge was officially declared open on Saturday, October 8, 1938 to much fanfare on both the Canadian and the American sides. As reported in The Sarnia Canadian Observer, A silver arch of steel, standing out like a rainbow in the sky above the St. Clair River, today became a new link between the United States and Canada. This structure, known as the Blue Water Bridge extending from Port Huron to Point Edward and Sarnia, was dedicated this afternoon as a new bond of friendship and commerce... (October 8, 1938)

Let's Visit Port Huron, MI

In this video, I head up to Port Huron, MI on May 30, 2011 (Memorial Day in the US) to check out the different sights in downtown Port Huron, along the St. Clair River, and Lake Huron. From the Port Huron side, you can also see Sarnia, Ontario along with the Blue Water Bridge which connects I-69/I-94 on the US side to Ontario 402 on the Canadian side. After Port Huron, I head up to the Fort Gratiot area to see the lighthouse and beach at Lighthouse Park as well as the beach at Fort Gratiot County Park.

Blue Water Water Convention Center Virtual Tour

The Blue Water Convention Center is Michigan's newest waterfront hotel and convention center. With 34,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting space and impeccable facility services it offers the perfect meeting location.

Perched on the edge of the St. Clair River, its location is a magnificent site beneath the incredible span of the Blue Water Bridges. Inside, Lake Huron Hall grants over 20,000 square feet of space and includes towering windows to reveal the waterfront view. The Great Lakes Reception Hall is a grand welcome with, floor to ceiling windows that lead to the patio. A ballroom and several break-out rooms are also available, some presenting a waterfront view.

It is a one-hour drive from Detroit or Flint. The area has over 900 hotel rooms to offer. This is a meeting planner's dream destination for conventions, reception, events and more.

The Blue Water Convention Center is adjacent to the new DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. On-site dining and catering is provided by Freighter's Eatery and Taproom.

Amtrak Blue Water Frozen at Port Huron, MI

Photos of the train:
Recent severe winter weather has led Amtrak to cancel all Midwest Corridor services. Cancellations first went into effect on January 30th with all trains originating or inbound for Chicago. In rather bitter cold weather, I decided to photograph Amtrak's 'Blue Water' idling in the cold winter wind and snow. Seeing the Blue Water in Port Huron in good light is just about unheard of in the colder seasons so this opportunity was perfect. On January 30th here, we reached a high temp of -11°F (-24°C), the low temp was also the high. The windchill that day dipped to -32°F (-35°C). Nonetheless, here's a walk-by alongside the train showcasing its rather icy and frozen appearance with some information regarding recent wintry events.
