Tiger Muskies at Bluewater Lake State Park
Heron Lake State Park - New Mexico Camping, Hiking & Fishing! - UHD 4k
I visited Heron Lake in late-May 2018, just before the Memorial Day and the summer vacation rush. This updated video was produced on June 17, 2018. I unilaterally decided that I was talking too much in the older video. So, less yapping.
According to New Mexico State Parks, A picturesque lake set among the tall pines of northern New Mexico, Heron Lake State Park has been designated a “quiet lake” where boats operate at no-wake speeds only, making it an excellent location for all types of paddle craft. Heron also has amazing sailing, cross-country skiing, and hiking.
Heron (Garza in spanish) is a fisherman's paradise with record-size trout and kokanee salmon. Ice fishing is very popular in winter. Several campgrounds line the shore of this scenic lake with primitive and developed campsites are available for every taste.
Price per night: $10+
Park elevation: 7,167 feet
Nearest city: Tierra Amarilla and Los Ojos, NM

Escondida Lake In New Mexico
Quick tour of Escondida Lake near Socorro, NM. It's a cool little area to take the family if you want a quick get away from town. The lake is stocked with trout in the fall and winter and catfish in the late spring and summer. NMDGF categorizes this water as Special Catfish Water which means there is a different bag limit...which right now means two catfish per day, but follow NMDGF's fishing regulations and they change regularly.
Road to the San Juan & NM State Park Pass Update
After 7 months of making a loop around the state of New Mexico, we are back at the San Juan River. I also give an update on how well the state park pass has worked out for us.
