Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Springfield is a city in the state of Massachusetts, United States, and the seat of Hampden County. Springfield sits on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River near its confluence with three rivers: the western Westfield River, the eastern Chicopee River, and the eastern Mill River. As of the 2010 Census, the city's population was 153,060. Metropolitan Springfield, as one of two metropolitan areas in Massachusetts (the other being Greater Boston), had a population of 692,942 as of 2010.The first Springfield in the New World, it is the largest city in western New England, and the urban, economic, and cultural capital of Massachusetts' Connecticut River Valley (colloquially known as the Pioneer Valley). It is the third-largest city in Massachusetts and fourth-largest in New England after Boston, Worcester, and Providence. Springfield has several nicknames – The City of Firsts, due to the many innovations developed there, such as the first American dictionary, the first American gas-powered automobile, and the first machining lathe for interchangeable parts; The City of Homes, due to its Victorian residential architecture; and Hoop City, as basketball – one of the world's most popular sports – was invented in Springfield in 1891 by James Naismith.
Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, lies 24 miles (39 km) south of Springfield, on the western bank of the Connecticut River. The Hartford-Springfield region is known as the Knowledge Corridor because it hosts over 160,000 university students and over 32 universities and liberal arts colleges – the second-highest concentration of higher-learning institutions in the United States. The city of Springfield itself is home to Springfield College, Western New England University, American International College, and Springfield Technical Community College, among other higher educational institutions.

America’s First Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship
Since its heyday in the late 1800s, bare-knuckle boxing in the US has been relegated to parking lots and grimy basements, an underground sport that couldn’t find a way to bring itself above board. But in June of 2018—after spending years petitioning almost 30 states to sanction the brutal fights—promoter David Feldman finally managed to stage America's first-ever legal bare-knuckle boxing match in Wyoming.
VICE went to the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships in Cheyenne a few days ahead of the big event to hear how Feldman managed to pull it off, and to meet a handful of fighters for whom boxing—and even MMA fighting—just isn’t hardcore enough.

A police officer’s bodycam shows the moment when a suspect pulled a gun on her. The video shows Officer Brianna Tedesco walking down a dark road to check out a suspicious vehicle with out-of-state license plates. She questions the man behind the wheel, who claimed to be taking a nap. When Tedesco asks him to produce a driver’s license, he tells her that he doesn’t have one. What officer didn’t know at the time was that the man is a fugitive and wanted for murder.

Segregation: Our Community's Secret. A presentation by Mark Wyman
Segregation: Our Community's Secret. A presentation by Mark Wyman, Distinguished Emeritus Professor of History from Illinois State University.
NOTE: This video displays visuals used during the lecture, but when there was no visual the screen of this video will be black.
According to Wyman, a local African American leader once commented that “People don’t know how bad it was here—even black kids don’t know how bad it was.” He referred to local customs that barred African-Americans from many aspects of life in Bloomington-Normal, which are now largely forgotten by all but those who were victims of these unwritten laws of racial exclusion. Wyman decided to investigate this for himself and began an extensive examination of local newspapers to help bring this part of the African American story in McLean County to light. His program will examine those findings.
Dr. Mark Wyman is a Distinguished Emeritus Professor of History from Illinois State University, having taught from 1971 until his retirement in 2004. A former newspaperman, his history publications have ranged from Western hard-rock miners, to immigrants returning to Europe, to hoboes harvesting crops across the West. Wyman was also guest curator of the Museum’s past exhibit Adlai! The Life and Times of Adlai E. Stevenson II 2002-2004.
Dr. Mark Wyman begins speaking at 3:22
7:36-12:33 Post Civil-War integration, Jesse Fell and the Bloomington leader newspaper – African Americans could vote, Normal schools were integrated, an African American was elected to a county seat, ISSCS had both black and white orphaned children, some restaurants served African Americans.

Andrew and Abby Borden.
Andrew Jackson Borden was one of the leading citizens of Fall River, Massachusetts, a prosperous mill town and seaport. The Borden family had strong roots to the community and had been among the most influential citizens of the region for decades. At the age of 70, Borden was certainly one of the richest men in the city. He was a director on the board of several banks and a commercial landlord with considerable holdings. He was a tall, thin and dour man and while he was known for this thrift and admired for his business abilities, he was not well-known for his humor nor was he particularly likable.....
The slight breeze combined with the cold November air was enough to send a chill down the spine of anyone who strolled across Penn State University’s campus. The day was November 28, 1969; the day after Thanksgiving and for 22-year-old Betsy Aardsma, the large campus seemed empty. Many students had gone home for the holiday, but there were a few like Betsy who had a major paper due and needed to work on it. Betsy and her roommate, Sharon Brandt, left their room at Atherton Hall and walked toward the Pattee Library. The two agreed to meet up again later and catch a movie. As they approached the library, Betsy and Sharon parted ways.....

His Life of Debauchery Leads to Many Suspects
Bob Crane was a beloved television actor whose real life had a seedy side and whose death baffled his friends, fans and the police. He played the title role of Colonel Hogan in the ’60s sitcom “Hogan’s Heroes.” He was one of the stars of the show from 1965 until 1971, when the series was cancelled. During that time, he left his wife of more than 20 years for his co-star Sigrid Valdis. He also catered to a taste for promiscuous sex and filming it, and he is considered to have been a serious sex addict. After the show, he never found the same success he had with “Hogan’s Heroes.” He instead took up small.....
