Harry T's, Harbor Walk Village and the Destin Boat Parade!
What an amazing day to visit Harry T's Lighthouse in Destin and watch the Destin Boat Parade!
Harry T's is always fun to visit! Great food, amazing views and really cool history! Harry T's Lighthouse is a restaurant that commemorates the life of Harrison Thomas Babe, (Harry T for short) who opened a commercial boat house in the early 1920s that served as a hang, out for the locals. That boathouse is long gone but what remains are the celebration of his memories at the modern Harry T's boathouse located at Harbor Walk Village.
The Destin Boat Parade is very popular so we decided to arrive early to ensure we got a good parking area and spot at the restaurant. This allowed us ample time to explore Harbor, Walk Village and take advantage of the amazing views of the Gulf of Mexico it offers. We managed to make it atop the presidential level at the Emerald Grand where we were able to catch some awesome video of the water!
While watching the video you might notice the sound of construction crews. These guys are putting in the and extremely important barrier to help preserve the small peninsula of sand you can see which separates the east pass and Destin harbor known as Noriega Point. Massive amounts of that have eroded away in the last few years and these guys are doing their best to protect what's left.
During this video I decided not to put times down like we do in our normal videos because I thought it just wasn’t fair. As I mentioned the boat parade is very popular and the restaurant was super crowded this day and we were warned by the friendly staff ahead of time they were running a bit behind. We were totally fine with that as we were waiting on the parade to start anyway.
If you are ever in Destin we highly recommend checking out Harbor Walk Village and Harry T's. Do your best to get a Harry T's key chain and you will be among a small group of people who enjoy special prices and VIP seating.
Below are recommended websites to check out. Also, be sure to watch the AJs video we mention several times during the video! (link below)

AJ's Oyster Bay in Destin reopens after massive fire Tuesday night
(WEAR) - An iconic Destin restaurant had plans to re-open Wednesday night, after a fire that looked like it would destroy the building.
There was a massive cleanup Wednesday at AJ's. Images of the fire Tuesday night got millions of hits on social media.
It's hard to imagine the building survived. But the damage was mostly confined to the upstairs bar area, where the thatched roof over the tiki bar is gone and the beams are charred.
The flames flared against the night sky, and from the looks of it, AJ's was a goner.
When owner Alan Laird got the call, he knew it was serious from his manager's voice. Laird said, We are on fire, totally engulfed. I was 5, 6 blocks away and I could see the sky lit up.
We now know it was 15-thousand palm fronds from the thatched roof causing the flames to shoot up. Laird explained, We just re-thatched it, and you've got to let them dry out a while before you can fire-treat them. We missed the window.
People watching thought a place they love was about to be a memory. Kimberly Callis of Destin said, I moved here in 2006, and that's the very first place that I was employed. I booked fishing charters for Mr. Alan Laird. It's just a very emotional time right now.
But the light of day washed away the tears and fears. By mid-morning Wednesday, the downstairs looked the same as ever, with the smell of smoke fading every minute upstairs in the bar, employees working the clean-up were joined by volunteers from the community.
AJ's motto is Legends Never Die, and it was never more true than the last 24 hours.
Alan Laird said he's thankful nobody was hurt, thankful for the efforts of the 5 fire departments that put out the blaze, and blessed that so many people care.
And he's always thinking of new reasons for people to visit the restaurant. Laird joked, We are now the only true topless oyster bar on the Gulf Coast I guess....
The State Fire Marshal's office has not made a final ruling. They think the fire started in the area of a portable heater and spread to the thatched roof because of the wind. AJ's is still moving ahead with plans to open restaurants on Okaloosa Island and Cinco Bayou in the next few weeks.
