PRETTY LITTLE TOWN, HOI AN | Vietnam
May 6th-8th, 2018.
I spent 3 days in Hoi An, most of the time only spent at the Ancient Town, sadly we didn't make it to My Son Sanctuary and Cam Thanh Village for a basket boat experience.
Please, if you guys have a plan to go to Hoi An, make sure to spare your time for My Son Sanctuary and book a trip to Cam Thanh Village (Bamboo Basket-Boat) days before you go to the village.
And, don't forget to rent a bike (around 30,000 VND, most hotel/hostel provide a bicycle rental) and cycling around the Ancient Town, it's the best way to enjoy Hoi An!
I stayed at: The House 36
100% for the service and the room quality, you'll love this hotel when you get there, I promise.

However, From Hoi An going back to Da Nang its difficult to book a grab so its better if you still book a private car /driver for you who really can wait and guide you wherever you go.

Vietnam Sleeper Bus // Hoi An to Hue
You're not a true backpacker traveling through Vietnam without an experience on a sleeper bus. Whether you're traveling a few hours during the day or over 12 hours overnight, sleeper buses are a common mode of transportation to major destinations in Vietnam.
On the day I left Hoi An, I went to the Sinh Cafe office (not a sponsor) and booked a ticket on a three-hour route to the former capital, Hue. The cost was 99,000 dong (about US$4.40) and was able to book a back seat, which afforded more legroom but left me with the potential of lying next to two other people for the jounrey. Luckily, no one ends up shoulder to shoulder with me, and I was able to lounge with a lot of space around me.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Pluses:
It takes about 10 minutes to walk into town. The view overlooking the river is interesting to watch with local and tourist boats. The pool is clean, swim up bar service is excellent with a daily happy hour. Breakfast has lots of choices both Vietnamese and Western. We had a problem with the tv connection and we called and they sent a technician immediately who solved the problem. The facilities are very nice and clean, staff are very helpful and friendly. There is a free shuttle service to An Bang beach however the chairs on the beach are only free if you drink and eat from the restaurants on the beach. The town of Hoi An is friendly to visit, restaurants are plentiful, the food is delicious and the shopping is very good with lots of choices! The locals are very friendly! Best place so far in our Vietnam trip.
The location was great - quiet, right on the river and out of the hustle and bustle - only a few minutes walk to the old town. The facilities were excellent, only wish we could have used the pool but it rained. Wonderful staff who could not do enough to make our stay memorable.
Minuses:
The restaurant food was good, but not great. Compared to the food we ate in restaurants outside the resort all over Vietnam which was much more 'authentic', the food was a little 'toned down' and 'homogenized'.
HOI AN TO HUE ROADTRIP (WITH HAI VAN PASS) | Vietnam | Vlog 042
After 4 days in Hoi An we head off on a road trip up the coast to Hue, first stopping at Marble Mountain in Danang. We then head to Ba Na Hills with the intention of visiting the Golden Bridge until we discover it is incredibly expensive and part of a rather unusual theme park! From there we drive along the Hai Van Pass that was made famous in Top Gear and on to one more stop before we arrive in Hue.
That evening we head out for our first local meal in Hue and try many of the local specialities including Banh Beo, Banh Uot Thit Nuong & Bun Thit Nuong.

OK travel bugs, this was INSANE. I honestly thought we were going by motorbike and was ready for the occasion. Turns out they had the jeep available that day and we drove it along the Vietnam coastline. BREATHTAKING! This was definitely one of those “wow, I can’t believe I did that” travel moments.
While you can take a shuttle bus or the train, both those options don’t allow you to see Vietnam’s amazing coastline views. Consider taking a private motorbike, jeep, or car option to get the most out of your time!
Here’s some destinations we visited during the drive from Hue to Hoi An:
-Fishing village
-Hai Van Pass is a long mountainous stretch of road in Central Vietnam that juts into the sea. An incredibly beautiful path to ride on on motorbike or…jeep!
-My Khe Beach, R & R Beach is a beach in Danang, a white sandy 20-mile stretch!
-Marble Mountain is a cluster of limestone hills, caves, tunnels, and temples. A seriously fascinating site to visit in Vietnam!
-Danang is the largest city in Vietnam in terms of population - wow!
-Hoi An Ancient City
I flew into Hue instead of Danang because it was cheaper, so I had to travel down South to get to Hoi An :) Hope that helps with navigation!
If you've made it this far...give the video a big thumbs up! You're epicly awesome.

MY SON HOI AN JEEP ADVENTURES | UNESCO Sanctuary Temple Tour | Vietnam Travel Vlog 077, 2017
BEST Hoi An tour 2017! My Son Sanctuary is a UNESCO site in Hoi An, central Vietnam. mỹ sơn Sanctuary is a holyland made up of temples and ruins with an incredible story to be told behind it's history - it made for a great travel vlog.
Hoi An Jeep Adventures was the greatest company to visit My Son with, it was literally the best Hoi An Tour we did after spending 3 months in Vietnam! They offer all sorts of Central Vietnam Tour options with jeeps, take a look here to see them all: or flick them an email for custom tours: tours@vietnamjeeps.com
In this travel vlog, from October 2017, we rode along with Hoi An Jeep Adventures on the half day My Son Explorer tour in the coolest war Jeep! Hoi An to My Son is less than an hour but the tour stops off at a few local stops to give you a feel for the local life in Vietnam. Seeing various temple styles and seeing the ruins was great with an informative guide, Tony, which added a lot of context to the story and why/how it is a UNESCO heritage site.
If you're planning a visit, we can't recommend the Central Vietnam My Son Tour enough!

Vietnam FIRST CLASS Overnight Train - How to Travel from Hanoi to Hoi An | Vietnam Trains
Vietnam overnight sleeper trains are the easiest and cheapest mode of travel between cities. Although Vietnam looks like a small country but you need to travel a lot and the major cities such as Hanoi, Hoi an and Ho Chi Minh are quite far from each other.
So how can you travel in Vietnam?
The local transportation system in Vietnam is quite good. There are local buses, trains and flights available from and to each and every city.
Vietnam overnight sleeper trains are supremely comfortable and cheap modes of travel!!!
The FIRST CLASS berths in 6-berth cabins costed me about 180,000 VND for a soft sleeper berth. There are other options as well that include hard berths, hard chairs, soft chairs and 4-berth sleeper cabins and prices vary accordingly.
The cheapest option that I found to be equally comfortable as well was the overnight train between Hanoi and Da Nang (closest railway station to Hoi an) and then you can take a 30 mins taxi ride to Hoi An city.

Road trip: Hoi An to Kontum along the Ho Chi Minh Trail
The Ho Chi Minh Trail was the supply line to Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops fighting US-backed South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. These days it's a major highway - the Ho Chi Minh Highway. I just travelled from Hoi An to Kontum along the route, crossing mountain passes and waterfalls. We also visited the former US base at Dat To - scene of major battles during the war.
