Dublin, Ireland: Trinity College
More info about travel to Dublin: Trinity College — founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I in the center of Dublin — has long been Ireland's most prestigious college. The big draw on campus for tourists is the precious Book of Kells, a beautiful monk-decorated copy of the four Gospels from about the year 800. Trinity's Old Library is stacked to its towering ceiling with old books including a rare edition of the Proclamation of the independent Irish Republic and another national icon — Ireland's oldest surviving harp, from the 15th century. You'll see this harp's likeness everywhere — on Irish euro coins, government documents and even on the Guinness label!

Siblings Conor, aged nine, Darragh, aged seven, and Carla, aged three, were discovered dead on the floor with fears they may have been suffocated. A woman aged in her 40s - believed to be the children's mother - was rushed to hospital after she was found in a disorientated state by a taxi driver. Cops believe the tragic youngsters didn't die or natural causes after the haunting note was pinned on the window sill - with earlier reports suggesting they may have been drugged or poisoned. Police confirmed a post-mortem will take place later today to establish a cause of death as they released a photo of the siblings with their dad Andrew McGinley. The home has now been sealed off with police treating the tragedy as unexplained. They are not looking for anyone else in connection with the grim discovery. Forensic officers today arrived at the home where the three bodies of the children were taken away in an ambulance. 'UNIMAGINABLE TRAGEDY' Horrified locals say the family had moved to the area around a year ago. One neighbour said: “It doesn’t seem real. I’ll be honest we’re shaking.” Councillor for the area Emer Higgins described the horror as an unimaginable tragedy. She added: My thoughts are with everybody impacted. This is a really tight-knit community, it's a small area, it's a quiet area and it's just unthinkable that something like this could be happening on our doorstep. It's so tragic. It's unbelievable that three young people's lives could be cut short like that, in what seems to be a particularly tragic case. A force spokesman said: Gardai are currently attending the scene of an incident at a domestic house in Newcastle, Co. Dublin. The bodies of three children, two boys and a girl, have been discovered. Gardai are currently investigating the circumstances of their unexplained deaths. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station on 01 666 7600.

'Call 999...don't go upstairs' Chilling note left on door of home where three children were found de
A note found on the door of a home where three small children were found dead read: Don’t go upstairs...call 999.” Brothers and sister Conor, Darragh and Carla McGinley were discovered in a house in Parson's Court, in the village of Newcastle, which is south-west of Dublin city last night. A woman, understood to be their mother, was taken to hospital after being found disorientated on the street by a taxi driver. The remains of the children, who were aged nine, seven and three, were removed from the semi-detached house by ambulance at around 10am on Saturday. The Irish Mirror reports the message was found on a note attached to the door of the house. Irish police later discovered all three children in the upstairs rooms of the house. The children's mother, who is in her 40s, was in Tallaght Hospital last night. As news of the tragedy emerged there was a sense of horror and disbelief among locals. One neighbour said: “It doesn’t seem real. I’ll be honest we’re shaking.” A book of condolence has been opened in St. Finian's Church this morning and the community will be coming together for a mass at 10am. The church's priest Father Kevin sent out a message last night and sent prayers to the children and their family. He said: This is the saddest of nights. The devastating news has brought tragedy and darkness into our community. It is understood gardai entered the home at Parsons Court after the mother was discovered shortly after 7pm. They believe the children may have been drugged or poisoned. A number of relatives of the family arrived at the gruesome scene and looked distraught and ashen-faced as they spoke to detectives. Many residents were too shocked to talk to reporters. One woman, who did not want to be identified, said: “I only found out five minutes ago after my brother rang because it was on the news. “I was oblivious [because we live in the corner] so I didn’t know anything.” She was with another neighbour who added they were “trying to piece it together ourselves”. She said: “I have kids upstairs, she has kids next door. “I actually was worried because she has three kids as well and I didn’t know who it was. I don’t know anything yet and it hasn’t sunk in.” The two friends revealed the family moved into the estate about a year ago. The second woman added: “I don’t think we’d know them to see them because our children are younger as well. “It’s a quiet estate. I think it’s an understatement to say we’re shocked. “I’m sure more details will emerge in the morning but I think tonight everybody is just like... I can’t believe it’s in our doorstep.” A spokeswoman appealed to anyone with information to contact Clondalkin station. She said: “Gardai are currently attending the scene of an incident at a domestic house in Newcastle, Co Dublin. “The bodies of three children, two boys and a girl, have been discovered. “Gardai are currently investigating the circumstances of their unexplained deaths. “A fem

DUBLINERS by James Joyce - FULL Audio Book | Greatest Audio Books
DUBLINERS by James Joyce - FULL Audio Book | Greatest Audio Books - Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written when Irish nationalism was at its peak and a search for a national identity and purpose was raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences. They centre on Joyce's idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character experiences self-understanding or illumination. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyce's novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by child protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people. This is in line with Joyce's tripartite division of the collection into childhood, adolescence, and maturity. (Summary from Wikipedia)

EATING IRISH FOOD!!! ????????????4 Must Try Dishes in Dublin
Today we're eating Irish Food! What a better way to start out a trip to Dublin, Ireland than to spend a day trying various types of Irish dishes for the first time..
The first dish of the day that we tried was a traditional Irish Breakfast. Consisting of bread, toast, beans, bacon, tomato, and black and white pudding, this breakfast was hearty and delicious. We tried this breakfast at O’Neill’s Pub and Kitchen,
Next up was a dish that we’d never heard of before, called boxty. Essentially a pancake made out of potato flour, we ordered a boxty with chicken and bacon. We found this dish at Gallaghers Boxty House
Lastly we headed to another Irish pub, the Hairy Lemon where we each tried similar looking dishes that tasted completed different! One was a traditional Irish Stew and the other was Irish Coddle. Both were served with a side of mashed potatoes.

O’Neill’s pub and kitchen, Dublin:
Situated in the historic heart of Dublin and just across the street from Temple Bar is O´Neill´s Pub. Around the corner from Trinity College, Grafton Street and the world-famous Molly Malone Statue, it´s the perfect place for a quiet pint, a tasty meal or a lively music session or just to rest your feet for a while. You´ll always be sure of a warm, friendly welcome.
O’Neill’s is a genuine traditional Old Irish pub renowned for its friendly staff and patrons, its great atmosphere and world-famous food. It looks like a regular pub from the outside, but inside it’s a pleasure to drink in, with its various nooks and crannies, upstairs and down. Whether you want to enjoy the great pub atmosphere or find a quite corner for yourself, O’Neill’s have it all.
Gallaghers Boxty House:
Our restaurant has been at the beating heart of a dynamic, contemporary community for over 25 years. Our customers experience a genuine taste of modern Ireland, full of eclectic talking points and the warmth of that country kitchen down the west. Today, our restaurant caters for up to 2000 local and international customers a week. The relaxed, warm atmosphere provides a natural habitat for conversation to flow easily and to share stories.
The Hairy Lemon:
This most enjoyable drinking establishment is just about as unconventional as it’s namesake. Even the 19th century house in which it resides is a little ‘outside-the-box’; with years of memorabilia, a sitting room suspended in mid air, High Nellie’s, Wellies and even Granny’s Kitchen.
Unknown to itself, the Hairy Lemon has become one of Dublin’s Trendiest Pubs.
Food featured:
Irish Breakfast: Irish breakfast is proudly packed with must-have specialties, often from local producers. If you ever travel to Ireland, this is the best way to start a food tour in the emerald Isle.
Full Irish Breakfast – traditional Full Irish – Ulster Fry Breakfast or even Irish Fry Up. They are all versions of the same traditional Irish breakfast that has been served for years.
Boxty
Boxty is a traditional Irish potato pancake. The dish is mostly associated with the north midlands, north Connacht and southern Ulster, in particular the counties of Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Fermanagh, Longford, Leitrim and Cavan.
Irish Stew
Irish stew is any variety of meat and root vegetable stew native to Ireland. As in all traditional folk dishes, the exact recipe is not consistent from time to time, or place to place. Common ingredients include lamb, or mutton, as well as potatoes, onions, and parsley. It may sometimes also include carrots
Irish Coddle
Coddle is an Irish dish which is often made to use up leftovers, and therefore without a specific recipe. However, it most commonly consists of layers of roughly sliced sausages and rashers with chunky potatoes, sliced onion, salt, pepper, and herbs. Traditionally, it can also include barley.

Library tour
I mentioned in a previous video that I would show a snippet of the library that's in the building where we live. It's not ours! We live in a tiny flat in the building. But thought it might be nice to show a bit of the library and the old books and things.. Forgive my poor camera work and hope you don't get seasick!
Thanks for watching. xxx

Cassandra Clare: City of Heavenly Fire Book Signing Tour - Dublin June 5th
Well, the call went out and the Irish Shadowhunter's answered in their droves and turned up at the fantastic Lighthouse Cinema for some good times.
An epic night of fun, laughter, spoilers, queues and insights into the Mortal Instruments universe courtesy of the amazing Cassandra Clare and her hilarious interviewer Sarah Rees Brennan.
Celebrating her No.1 position in the Overall Irish Book Charts, Cassie was in flying form and gave us sneak previews of things to come and answered many a question from the hyped up audience of hardcore fans. And while this was occurring, a further mob was organising itself upstairs for a post event signing.
It was a late night, but everyone went home smirking and happy.
Me, I finally got to overcome my spoiler phobia on the night and rushed home to continue reading the final installment which is simply -- Ledge !
Pearse Street Library
Pearse Street Library was built in 1909. Andrew Carnegie, an American millionaire gave money to help pay for the library. Today there is a public library downstairs and a special study library upstairs. Here you can trace your family tree or look up the history of your area.
This video is designed as a resource for second level students completing the Junior Cycle History Curriculum.
