Visiting the Cottonwood Tree of Boone's Cave State Park, NC
I made a quick video while walking on the trails of Boone's Cave State Park near Lexington, North Carolina. :) The entire Boone family came to this area in 1755, Daniel would have been approximately 15 at the time. He was with his parents and other family and friends. they reportedly lived in the cave while cabins for the group were being built, approximately 1 year. The cottonwood tree that is there is the third largest on record in the state; it is 169 feet tall, more than 16 feet around the trunk and the canopy is 109 feet wide! Thank you for watching! Our first time to visit Daniel Boone's Cave on January 19, 2010.
DANIEL BOONE'S CAVE STATE PARK
In 1750 the Boone family moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina and lived on the banks of the Yadkin River. As legend goes, they stayed in a cave for several months while building their cabin. This cave has come to be known as Boone's Cave. The opening is small, but the cave extends about 80 feet. Young Daniel Boone hid from an Indian in this cave and while the Indian waited for Daniel to come back out--Daniel went out a back way and got away. The state of North Carolina has made this area into a State Park.

Kayak Camping Boone's Cave to High Rock Lake Yadkin River North Carolina
November 2016 I did almost 25 miles on my kayak down the Yadkin River into High Rock Lake spending a night on the river. I slept in a hammock and did the trip on my Pelican Trailblazer 100 Kayak with some modifications to it.

A video of some of the things to see at Boone's cave state park in North Carolina. My dog has a good time playing around in the Yadkin river. This cave was said to be a place where Daniel Boone's family lived for a short time.

This is a look at Boone's Cave, we took the pictures during our visit on 5-26-13.
This 110 acre county park has recently undergone renovations that include trails and access to the Yadkin River! Legend says that Daniel Boone was only 16 when
his family settled on the banks of the Yadkin River in the spring of 1750. The park includes a picnic area, several hiking trails, a 1700's style cabin, and a small cave thought to be Daniel Boone's hideout. Some three dozen species of native wildflowers can be seen here including Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel and, at over 160 feet, the state's tallest Eastern Cottonwood tree. A visit to the park is a perfect outing for school or church groups seeking an opportunity that combines fun and a living history experience.

The entire Boone family came to this area in 1755, Daniel would have been approximately 15 at the time. He was with his parents and other family and friends. they reportedly lived in the cave while cabins for the group were being built, approximately 1 year. There has never been any proof of a Boone cabin on park property, a foundation was found, location not marked, but no connection could be made. There was no basement. There are however copies of many land grants in the Boone family name surrounding what is now the park. (Daniels brothers, uncle and father were all land owners)
The park itself offers 6 miles of hiking trails, fishing, and limited camping with reservations ahead of time. The Cottonwood tree is the third largest on record in the state, it is 169 feet tall, over 16 feet around the trunk and the canopy is 109 feet wide.
