Malaysia's Best Beach: A Private Boat to Sibuan Island
Semporna, Malaysia is known for its access to tropical islands with amazing snorkeling and SCUBA diving, and probably the best beaches in the country. It's located in Sabah, on the island of Borneo. To avoid taking a tourist boat, we walked around the pier for a while and found a man who would give us a private tour, a boat all to ourselves, for the same price as a tourist boat. It was an adventure and a half. Definitely check out Sibuan Island in Malaysia where the snorkeling is amazing, and the beach is pristine.

ᄿOUR STORY: Backroads of Montana. Watch Video here:
Our Story
Life is crazy! The tide smashes even the best-laid plans to sand… and so it goes!
This is a story about two people, who met by chance, were bound by fate and who continue to let the quirky side of life guide their paths! How else could a young man from a tiny town in Albania and a farm girl from the mountains of Montana meet in the middle, with a life guided by adventure?
We met in Rome. Engjell was a waiter in a little Roman restaurant down by Trevi Fountain and I was a student abroad, spending a year in the Eternal City. There are some pretty cheesy movies about the giggly American girl meeting the handsome foreigner abroad, who then spend all their time bombing around ancient ruins on a shiny moped, hair blowing in the wind and smiles from ear to ear. And yet… serendipity delivers! We did fall in love and he did have a moped…
In 2006, we moved back to the United States. We returned as a family of three, as little Fiona had been born in Rome at FateBeneFratelli, the hospital on an island… where all the Roman babies have been born for centuries! We moved often, looking for the perfect place. In 2010, we found an opportunity to open our own restaurant in Bigfork, Montana. We spent seven years and thousands of hours bringing the flavors of Italy to rural Montana. We were doing well! We were successful and busy and had finally bought our own home… we had a mortgage and car payments and a full-time, ultra-demanding job! We opened a second restaurant! We even added two more family members with the addition of Hugo and Remy!
We were living the dream! Or were we? On the outside, it looked like we had it all… that success had reached out its hand and we had graciously accepted. But in reality, we were working 80-100 hours each per week, we rarely saw our three beautiful kids who knew the nanny better than they did us, and we were burned out… from too much work, from too little time spent together as a family, from life! We had bought into the well-oiled idea of success and were realizing quickly the fatal flaws in our plan.
So we decided, together, to give it all up! We took the giant, terrifying, leap and sold it all to travel on a shoestring budget and let life teach us again, teach us anew, of what it looks like to be a successful human being! We are just beginning on this wonderful adventure! We have been traveling the U.S. for a year as a family in a motorhome. We are every day astounded by the diversity and creativity of both humans and Mother Nature. In July, we will set off for a one year trip around the world!
This time, too, food and wine lead our adventure. We hope to dig deep into every culture as we go, unearthing culinary tradition everywhere we go! We plan to travel to places where we can stage and work in restaurants and vineyards to learn more and to ultimately be able to take what we have learned and start fresh…inspired, changed… wherever we end up.
This trip is about re-defining success! It is about food and wine…about a plate of pasta or a shared bottle of wine, about experiences! It is about family and figuring out how we all fit together and what life’s REAL plan for us is! We invite you to join us in this crazy adventure as we travel the world!

I spent my Christmas in Kota Kinabalu in the Borneo side of Malaysia and stayed with a resort that I wanted to visit for a very long time. Gaya Island Resort. And I had a fantastic time with them.
Gaya Island Resort may not be the newest resort with all the highest technology amenities. What's unique about them is their unparalleled service level. They treat every single guest as a VIP. They make us feel important. Almost all of the staff able to greet us by our names during our stay. No matter what kind of request you have, the only word you will never hear is NO. This is how a 6star service should be.
We had a great time at Gaya Island Resort. Thank you so much for the warm hospitality from Catherine, the General manager and her excellent team, which made our holiday memorable. I highly recommend this resort to everyone.

【第28集】Semporna Trip September 2019 = Mabul Island + Kapalai Island =
Mbul Island
Mabul (Malay: Pulau Mabul) is a small island off the south-eastern coast of Sabah in Malaysia. The island has been a fishing village since the 1970s. In the 1990s, it first became popular to divers due to its proximity to Sipadan island.
Located 15 km from Sipadan, this 20-hectare piece of land surfaces 2–3 metres above sea level, consists mostly flat grounds and aerial view is oval-shaped. Surrounding it are sandy beaches, perched on the northwest corner of a larger two-square-kilometre reef. Mabul island is administered as a part of Semporna, Tawau district.
There are two main villages on the island, Kampung Mabul and Kampung Musu. The 1999 census recorded approximately 2,000 villagers living in Mabul, half of them children under 14 years old. The majority are immigrants from relatively nearby clusters of islands in the southern Philippines. These residents are mainly Bajau Laut and Suluk Muslims who live a nomadic lifestyle.
Basic amenities include a mosque, schools, community and fishermen's hall. The main transportation mode between places is via boat.
As most residents mainly work as fishermen, the village source of income depends on ocean-based products such as squid and fish. Traditional fishing methods are called Payau and Sangkaliya. Mabul fishermen prefer catches close to the Malaysia–Philippine borders, perhaps due to the abundance of fish stocks. An average fishing trip will take 3 to 5 days out at sea. When the men return, their catches are sold at Semporna on the mainland.
It was said that Mabul was owned by a man from Menampilik island. Back in the 1970s, he and the villagers planted coconuts on the island, in addition to fishing. In 1992, Sipadan Mabul Resort (SMART) purchased a part of land on the east of Mabul intended for tourism.
Kapalai Island
Kapalai (Malay: Pulau Kapalai) is an island in Tawau Division, Sabah, Malaysia, known for its scuba resorts.
The island of Kapalai, just 15 kilometres off Sipadan, was a beautiful island two hundred years ago, but now remains as only a sand bar. Erosion has reduced the island to sea level and the village now sits on the edge of the extensive Ligitan Reefs. All of the buildings rest on stilts resting on the underwater reef. There is only one private resort on the island, with the rest of the island uninhabited.
Kapalai is situated a couple of hours from the east coast of Borneo. Though the island is a relatively remote location to reach, there are daily flights from Kota Kinabalu, less than a one-hour flight from Tawau.
Boating and Snorkelling off Kota Kinabalu, Borneo
