Best LONDON STREET FOOD at BOROUGH MARKET | London food market | British food + what NOT to eat
LONDON STREET FOOD in BOROUGH MARKET | What to eat at BOROUGH MARKET
We're in London, United Kingdom! In this 3 part series we're hunting down the best British food in London, United Kingdom.
This is our first video from London and we're at Borough Market to find the best British food. Borough Market is one of London's oldest and biggest food markets. Aside from a tonne of fresh produce, meat and seafood there is a wide variety of cooked food to be eaten. We want to sample the best of the best. We start with a sausage roll from the famous butcher The Ginger Pig, tuck into some oysters from Richard Harwood whose relatives have been in the oyster game since 1792, eat a chorizo roll from Brindisa (not worth it) and then scoff some of Bread Ahead's famous doughnuts.
We hope you enjoyed this London street food video, thanks for watching! #boroughmarket #londonstreetfood #britishfood
What we ate and where we ate it:
Sausage roll at The Ginger Pig;
Oysters at Richard Harwood;
Chorizo roll from Brindisa (not worth eating in our opinion); and
Doughnuts from Bread Ahead; all at Borough Market, 8 Southwark St, London SE1 1TL, UK. Open Monday to Friday 10:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

LONDON STREET FOOD, BOROUGH MARKET, FRESH FOOD MARKET IN LONDON, BOROUGH
LONDON STREET FOOD, BOROUGH MARKET, FRESH FOOD MARKET IN LONDON, BOROUGH, Borough Market is a wholesale and retail food market in Southwark, London, England. It is one of the largest and oldest food markets in London,[1][2] with a market on the site dating back to at least the 12th century. The present buildings were built in the 1850s, and today the market mainly sells speciality foods to the general public. The present market, located on Southwark Street and Borough High Street just south of Southwark Cathedral on the southern end of London Bridge, is a successor to one that originally adjoined the end of London Bridge. It was first mentioned in 1276, although the market itself claims to have existed since 1014 and probably much earlier[3] and was subsequently moved south of St Margaret's church on the High Street.[4] The City of London received a royal charter from Edward VI in 1550 to control all markets in Southwark (see Guildable Manor), which was confirmed by Charles II in 1671. However, the market caused such traffic congestion that, in 1754, it was abolished by an Act of Parliament.[5][6]
The Act allowed for the local parishioners to set up another market on a new site, and in 1756, it began again on a 4.5-acre (18,000 m²) site in Rochester Yard.[5][6] During the 19th century, it became one of London's most important food markets due to its strategic position near the riverside wharves of the Pool of London.[5]
The retail market operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The wholesale market operates on all weekday mornings from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. The present-day market mainly sells speciality foods to the general public. However, in the 20th century, it was essentially a wholesale market, selling produce in quantity to greengrocers. It was the main supplier, along with Covent Garden, of fruits and vegetables to retail greengrocers' shops. Amongst the notable businesses trading in the market were Vitacress, Lee Brothers (potato merchants whose signage can still be seen in the market), Manny Sugarman, AW Bourne and Eddy Robbins. JO Sims, the main importer for South African citrus fruit (Outspan), were also located in the market.
Vegetable stall
Stallholders come to trade at the market from different parts of the UK, and traditional European products are also imported and sold. Amongst the produce on sale are fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat, game, baked bread and pastries.
The market is a charitable trust administered by a board of volunteer trustees, who have to live in the area.[10]
Borough Market and the surrounding streets have been used as a film location for such features as Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).[11] As reported by the London Evening Standard, the market is available to hire for private events. From 1860, the railway operating companies desired to extend services from London Bridge station into new stations at Cannon Street and Blackfriars in the City and link to the West End at Charing Cross Station. This required a viaduct, but legally, it was impossible by the 1756 Borough Market Act for the Trustees to alienate their property. The compromise was that only a flying leasehold was given to the railway company for the permanent way, but only for as long as a railway operates on it. The Market continues to trade underneath the arches of the viaduct. Each time there is a railway expansion requiring widening of the viaduct, the Trustees receive a full compensation payment. The last major such expansion was the 1901 extended bridge widening; the 21st-century works programme will also make its contribution. These windfalls have assisted in the finances of the market without any loss of amenity to it. A new viaduct was erected above the market and a bridge across Borough High Street completed in 2014.
First span of the new Borough Market viaduct at Stoney Street
As part of the Thameslink Programme, a large number of listed buildings in the Borough Market area have been altered or demolished,[13] affecting the historic fabric of the area. This includes parts of the market itself and much of the area appearing in the aforementioned films. This was unpopular locally and became a contentious issue in the resulting public inquiry, which resulted in delays to the project. Eventually, the inquiry inspector was satisfied with the plans to restore as much of the market and surrounding area as possible. The overriding need to remove a major bottleneck in the national rail network and improve transport options over a large portion of London meant that he accepted that some damage to the fabric of the market and surrounding area was unavoidable in order for the scheme to achieve its objectives. Disruption to the market activities was kept to a minimum.
BEST OF BOROUGH MARKET
So you should know by now that we’re pretty big fans of the food scene in London. Our capital city is easily home to one of the best food cultures in the world and nowhere is this better summed up than Borough Market - probably London's most famous food market with great sights, sounds, and smells from global cuisines and food producers.
More than ever following last year’s attack, we wanted to celebrate this area and highlight ways in which you can enjoy a range of food for £25 and under.
Hope you enjoy the film and please let us know what you thought in the comments!
Huge love to the whole Borough Market team for allowing us permission to film. Make sure you give them a follow @boroughmarket on Instagram and Twitter and visit boroughmarket.org.uk for details on events plus recipes and behind the scenes stories.

1,000 YEAR OLD FOOD MARKET! British Food Tour of Borough Market in LONDON
I arrived in London on a rainy day and since I love rain so much. I went to the Borough Market for my British food adventure and also to enjoy my favorite weather. At the Borough Market, they served some delicious vegan and beef pies, amazing juicy pork wraps, super light creamy donuts, cheesy raclette with potatoes and many more! But after eating at the market, around 3 AM in the morning I was still hungry, so I went to get some salted beef sandwiches at the Beigel Shop. That was the best decision I ever made.

Borough Market in London - What You Should Eat | London Street Food Tour!
Borough Market is one of the most famous and renowned fresh markets in London. Get all information here:
There are many famous things to do in London, but if you're a food lover like I am, one of the best choices you can make it to take a trip to the historical Borough Market. The market is one of the most well-known in all of London. The history goes way back, and it was formerly a place where people came and gathered to trade and sell their fresh produce. For many years it was very informal and without structure. But the official Borough Market was established in 1885, the place that we can visit today.
We were only in London for a couple of days, attending the Chowzter.com food awards ( and one thing I knew we needed to do, was visit Borough Market with an empty stomach. It was Friday morning at about 10 AM when we decided to go - and I think it was just about a perfect time - because many of the vendors were just opening up, and the market wasn't as packed as it could be. The best things to do as soon as you arrive to Borough Market is to take a leisurely stroll around and see what is available for you to eat - there are too many things to eat in one visit, so it's important that you choose wisely, and decide what you want to eat.
Some of the most famous things include the salt beef sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, the duck confit sandwich, chorizo, and many other delicious things. But along with cooked food, there's also a range of cured meats, and wonderful cheeses. I also really enjoyed the fresh produce, which included a nice variety of mushrooms and beautiful heirloom tomatoes.
But anyway let's get back to the food, and I'm talking about the food ready to be eaten. As soon as I arrived I saw a stack of cheese and olive bread-sticks which were piled high like a pyramid. That was my first treat. The long bread-stick was crusty and embedded with salty cheese and delicious olives. While walking around, in the back part Borough Market, we decided to try a Portuguese egg tart. It was good but I thought it could've been better if it was a little warmer. Next up we tried a sausage on a stick from a place called Boston Sausage. I added a bunch of English mustard to it, and I think that's what made it so good.
If you want to drink coffee, when you visit London's Borough Market you cannot miss the famous Monmouth coffee shop. It can be quite busy and hard to find a seat, so we decided just to get takeaway coffee, as I really needed something to wake me up and keep me energized to eat more. My little shot of macchiato was fantastic.
Back to the food, we went to a place called Brindisa and ordered up one of their famous chorizo sandwiches. The chorizo was very tasty, and had a nice spicy flavor to it, but I thought the bread was way too big for the amount of meat. If I ordered it again, I would for sure get the double chorizo. Finally for my last sandwich at Borough Market, I went with the famous duck confit sandwich. You'll see the incredible pan of duck confit when you visit the market, and if you're like me, it should entice you to eat it immediately. When you order, the vendor fills up a bunch of duck into a ciabatta roll. The duck was incredibly tender, juicy, and oily, and it was amazingly tasty. That just about wrapped up everything I ate at Borough Market in London. There were still many more things I wanted to try, but like I said, it would be a near impossible feat to eat everything in one visit to the market. If you want to eat and you're in London, this is one of the best places to visit.
Visit Borough Market information:
Open for lunch on Monday -- Tuesday from 11 am -- 5 pm
Full market is open on Wednesday -- Thursday from 11 am -- 5 pm, Friday from 10 am -- 6 pm, and Saturday from 8 am -- 5 pm (closed on Sunday)
Prices: It would not be hard to spend 20 GBP per person eating here
Website:
How to get to there: I think the easiest way is to take the London underground tube to London Bridge Station and then just follow the exit signs that will lead directly to Borough Market.

The Best of BOROUGH MARKET @ London Bridge
Borough Market is one of the oldest markets in London and I come to borough market quite a bit throughout the year because it’s possibly the best source of exceptional British & international food & drink in London. Its just across the road from London Bridge Train & Tube Station and the Shard Building.
On this trip we visit Monmouth coffee for a cup of coffee and some beans to use at home, Neils Yard Dairy for Cheese, Roast Restaurant for one of their British Roast Dinner roasted meat baguettes, Bread ahead bakery & bakers for some bread & doughnuts, Brindisa London Bridge Spanish foods & Tapas bar / BBQ for a chorizo roll, a duck confit sandwich from Le Marché du Quartier
The shops, pubs, bars & restaurants open pretty much every day but the market doesn't, I will put a link below to their website so you can check there current opening days & opening hours – but the best day to visit is Saturday which is the biggest market day & its fully fired up with traders & visitors and the opening times can change seasonally so check out their website before visiting.

LONDON WALK | Borough Market incl. Street Food at London Bridge | England
A first-person perspective London walk tour of Borough Market at London Bridge in Southwark.
See all the sights as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person!) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring Borough Market at London Bridge in Southwark. The route begins at the main entrance on Stoney Street, then moves through the whole market, finishing at the market exit on Borough High Street.
Sights seen along the tour include a variety of produce including all types of food (including street food), such as salt beef, burgers (chicken, beef, vegan), sushi, fruit & vegetables, cheese, meat, curries, paella, breads, cakes & pastries, stir-fry noodles, pulled lamb, hog roast, German deli, and hot dogs (bratwurst, frankfurter).
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded September 2017.

Eating at BOROUGH MARKET in LONDON ????
Today we're eating in London at the Borough Market. Located in Southwark, Borough Market is one of the largest and oldest food markets in all of London. The market is mostly made up of wholesale and retail food stands and dates back to the 12th century.

BOROUGH MARKET is rich with history, but it remains as relevant now as it has ever been. As London’s oldest food market, it has been serving the people of Southwark for 1,000 years, and that extraordinary heritage is an important part of its appeal.
The present-day market mainly sells speciality foods to the general public. However, in the 20th century, it was essentially a wholesale market, selling produce in quantity to greengrocers. It was the main supplier, along with Covent Garden, of fruits and vegetables to retail greengrocers' shops. South Bank:
The South Bank is an area of Central London, located immediately adjacent to the south bank of the River Thames. It forms a long and narrow section of riverside development within the London Borough of Lambeth and the London Borough of Southwark. The South Bank stretches two square miles (5 square kilometres) along the southern bank of the River Thames. The western section is in the London Borough of Lambeth and the eastern section is in the London Borough of Southwark. The area is hemmed in between the river to the north and the viaducts of the approaches to Waterloo, Charing Cross, Cannon Street and London Bridge railway stations to the south.
