Camping Trip Where We Mostly Ate // Poconos Edition
In this episode, my friends and I embark on a van ride to Hickory Run State Park in the Poconos (Pennsylvania) for a weekend camping trip.
It was my first time camping in the area and the campgrounds were spacious and great for our big group! There are tons of hiking trails and activities nearby.
We only got a little rain which was great because I'm all about sunny weather! We spent a lot of time outdoors but mostly cooking and eating.
Hope you enjoy and subscribe for more!

DITLO stands for Day In The Life Of...
...me. And my friends (and family).
I wanted to start doing a daily vlog, but I didn't want them to be super long, so I decided to make them short and sweet, about 3 minutes each. I also knew I wouldn't want to make one every day, so I guess it's kind of like a...whatever-day-I-feel-like-making-it vlog. :)

MARVEL AT ALL THE ROCKS! | NYPENN Wonders
There's much wonder and adventure within the NYPENN region (and close by). You just have to know where to look.
Right in the Pocono mountains in Pennsylvania is a tectonic wonder known as the Hickory Run Boulder Field. What it lacks in greenery, it makes up for several times over in grey rocks.

First to Experience the Hickory State Park (Pennsylvania) Boulder Field on a Sunday Morning
This is the Hickory State Park Boulder field (a left over reminder of the last ice age). How did this petrified lake of 1'-3' long boulders (a few large enough to lay down on) get here? The Boulder Field is Located near Interstate 80 (about 40 miles West of the PA/NJ Border). The boulder field (once larger) measures over 1,800' long, and is the largest boulderfield in Pennsylvania. Most boulder fields in Pennsylvania are on the sides of mountains near the center of the state. The edges are gradually being encroached on by pioneer species (lichens, moss, small shrubs, and finally pine trees). The pine needles and organic material form a thin mat of soil, which will eventually result in the disappearance of this boulder field. If you think it looks like a lake that had turned to stone- that is not far from the truth. Water flows just a few feet below the surface of the boulders. The boulder field is pockmarked with craters (about 6' wide and 2-3' deep). Water can be found in the craters. This September 2018 morning, I arrived at Hickory Run State Park at 8:30AM, briefly met with the park manager/ park ranger in the office to find out where the best places to go in the park are, and then drove down a long rough road (about 4 miles) and parked at the edge of the boulder field. I hope that others will find this video educational. I am trained as a geologist, and find it interesting how the boulders are well rounded on one side of the boulder field, and very blady and angular on the other side of the boulder field. What could have formed the craters. The rocks inside the craters appear orange, whereas the surface rocks are a dull grayish pink. Many of the rocks contain white pebbles (most likely made of limestone). The rocks with pebbles you can see (larger than grains of sand) are conglomerates. Conglomerate rocks would have formed in very high energy/ turbulent environments. Throughout the video, I pose questions, some I answer, and some I don't. Maybe you have your own ideas. There is an interpretive brochure available for the boulderfield at the park office. For most of the time, I was the only person on the boulderfield. I spent about an hour (9AM-10AM) encircling the boulderfield. There are some hyperlapse sections (about 12X or more timelapses) toward the end of the video.
