PLAYA DEL CARMEN, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO TRAVEL, PLAYA DEL CARMEN MEXICO
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO TRAVEL, PLAYA DEL CARMEN MEXICO, Playa del Carmen is a coastal resort town in Mexico, along the Yucatán Peninsula's Riviera Maya strip of Caribbean shoreline. In the state of Quintana Roo, it’s known for its palm-lined beaches and coral reefs. Its Quinta Avenida pedestrian thoroughfare runs parallel to the beach, with blocks of shops, restaurants and nightspots ranging from laid-back bars to dance clubs. Playa del Carmen (Spanish pronunciation: ['plaʝa ðel 'kaɾmen]) is a city located along the Caribbean Sea in the municipality of Solidaridad, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is a popular tourist area in eastern Mexico. Playa del Carmen features a wide array of tourist activities due to its geographical location in the Riviera Maya. It has also been the destination of PGA Tour golf tournaments and the set location for various television shows. The town has become one of the fastest to grow in population size in Mexico. Playa del Carmen is located within the Riviera Maya, which runs from south of Cancún to Tulum and the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. Playa is a stop for several cruise ships which dock at the nearby Calica quarry docks, about six miles (10 km) south of the city. The Xcaret Eco Park, a Mexican-themed eco-archaeological park, is a popular tourist destination located just south of the town in Xcaret (pronounced ish-kar-et). In October 2005, Hurricane Wilma passed directly over Playa del Carmen, remaining in the vicinity for two days and causing significant damage and a temporary drop in tourist arrivals. Most of the damage was relatively superficial and repaired within a few weeks of the storm. Hurricane Wilma arrived from the Caribbean Sea, passing over Cozumel before making landfall in Playa del Carmen. It then moved north along the Mexican coast, hitting Cancún especially hard. Originally a small fishing town, tourism to Playa del Carmen began with the passenger ferry service to Cozumel, an island across the Cozumel Channel and a world-famous scuba diving destination.
Playa del Carmen has recently undergone extreme rapid development with new luxury residential condominium buildings, restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues. Tourist activity in Playa del Carmen centers on Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, which stretches from Calle 1 norte to Calle 40. A pedestrian walkway located just one or two blocks inland from the beach, Fifth Avenue is lined with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. There are many small boutique hotels on and just off Fifth Avenue and on the beach.
Playacar is a residential and tourist development in Playa del Carmen just south of the main urban area. Most of the all-inclusive hotels, the aviary and the golf course are located in this development. There are two phases – phase 1 is mostly residential with a few hotels and some stores, while phase 2 contains the largest all-inclusive resorts as well as the golf course and a significant number of residential properties.
Playa del Carmen is host to several major annual events. The largest of these was The BPM Festival, a world-famous electronic dance music festival which, up until recently, took place in January each year.

Top 5 Things To Do in Playa del Carmen | What To Do in Playa del Carmen
Here are my personal Top 5 Things to do when you are coming down to Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen was put on the map because of the traffic of tourism attracted to Cancun, and eventually Playa del Carmen was going to be discovered. A few decades ago, Playa del Carmen, which is now one of the fastest growing towns in the world, was nothing more than a small fishing village. With the expansion of tourism along, what is now known as the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen has grown at an incredible rate, all thanks to tourism. As you can imagine, with tourism, influx of money and people, there is a strong need for things to do, activities and tourist attractions while in Playa del Carmen. Of course, it is known for the beaches but people these days want more than just sitting on a beach, especially when you are coming down for longer than a week, or an indefinite trip. This video explains my Top 5 What to do in Playa del Carmen.
Listed below are a number of other videos on this channel which show some other incredible things to do in the Playa del Carmen area and the Mayan Riviera in general.

I think there's nothing that dose of tropical breeze, coral sand, swaying palms, turquoise waters and heaps of guacamole cannot fix. And for me, Mexico is a perfect quick getaway when I am looking for that rest and relaxation. However, in a popular tourist destination like Playa del Carmen, it is hard to find a high quality, boutique resort that caters to more of a discerning traveler.
That is where Panama Jack Resorts Playa del Carmen comes in. I was not expecting such a welcoming, intimate feel from a hotel that is located ON the beach and just steps from the main street. The staff was so friendly and warm, I felt like I was staying at my home away from home. Not only was it comfortable it was LUXURIOUS! My beachfront suite was steps from the sand, and the tasteful decor had such global inspired details that I really appreciated. Also, the FOOD! Off the Hook sushi by one of the pools for lunch, drinks from the cabana on the beach and specialty theme nights every night. There's even an Italian restaurant, Brazilian steakhouse, local Mexican option and more. Tableside guacamole? You got it!
Not ot mention they had a stunning spa with really amazing treatments--some of which you can have outside on the beach.
Overall, this resort is a hidden gem in the vibrant Playa del Carmen. It is an incredible value and I promise, a memorable getaway.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Riviera Maya:
On the eastern edge of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, #RivieraMaya is just a half-hour away from the party town of Cancun. If you’re looking for something quieter, start your Riviera Maya #vacation in Puerto Morelos, a quaint fishing town where you can rent a catamaran for an afternoon at sea, or say “buenos días” to a reptile at Crococun Zoo.
Playa del Carmen is a great home base for those who want to #explore the rest of the Riviera Maya. Distinctly European in its architecture and layout, you’ll find plenty of charming places to stay, and many boutique shopping and dining opportunities.
Catch a ferry to Cozumel, an island just off the coast. It’s part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, where you can scuba or snorkel off the island’s sheltered western side. Back on the mainland, the ruined city of Talum offers a breathtaking vista of the sea.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN MEXICO VLOG
Last month, my friends and I went on our 2nd annual friends trip to Mexico! We did Puerto Vallarta on our inaugural friends trip, and this time we ventured to the east coast of Mexico, to the state of Quintana Roo.
TRAVEL- We took direct Southwest flights from Los Angeles to Cancun. We booked a shuttle pick-up from the airport to our hotel, but otherwise took taxis from our hotel or in the tourist areas of Playa del Carmen to get around. They do not have Uber ride share in Quintana Roo, so taxis are the only option to get around.
LODGING- We stayed at the Carmen Hotel, located right on the beach and a block from Calle Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), the tourist shopping area perpendicular to the beach. It is a small, boutique hotel with a small infinity pool if that is what you are looking for. Boutique hotels have its pros and cons. If looking for all the bells and whistles, then go with a large hotel; otherwise, boutique can be a whimsical, rather unique, and dare I say intimate experience.
ACTIVITIES- Playa del Carmen is known for its water parks, built within the natural landscape of the jungle. There are a ton of options—some more water-based, others adventure-focused, and still others en fuego! We explored Xplor, which is a full-day water park with zip lines, hammock swings, amphibious vehicles, and rafting. Buffet lunch is also included in the admission price, and it’s surprisingly tasty. Sure, the idea of a water park may sound slightly cheesy, but knowing it's part of the cenote and jungle is crazy cool.
FOOD- For a unique dining experience, I recommend Alux, a restaurant that is located inside a real cave! They serve “Mexican contemporary and international cuisine,” and the food and drinks are delightful—not to mention you might see and hear a few bat flutters during your meal! Might I recommend their passion fruit cocktail which was tangy and refreshing!
Playa del Carmen is a world away from Mexico's west coast, but definitely worth exploring. Is Playa del Carmen on your bucket list? Also, stay tuned for my Tulum video, which is a hop, a skip, and a jump away from Playa del Carmen!

Playa del Carmen, Mexico's Must-Visit Beach City
Playa del Carmen is known for its all-inclusive resorts. But it's a cool, energetic, bustling city that begs to be explored.
Playa del Carmen Travel Guide - A Mexican Paradise
Playa del Carmen Travel Guide - A Mexican Paradise
Playa del Carmen, or just Playa as it is also commonly referred to by locals, is a coastal resort town in Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Approximately 70 km south of Cancún (around 50 min driving), 20 km west of Cozumel, and 65 km from Tulum (around 45 min), it is at the center of the Mayan Riviera and offers a more relaxed atmosphere, smaller boutique lodgings, and a distinct European flavor.
The town is ideally located: close to Cancún’s international airport, but far enough south to allow easy access to Cozumel, Tulum, Cobá and other worthy destinations. The reefs here are excellent and offer diving and snorkeling close by. Look for rays, moray eels, sea turtles and a huge variety of corals. The lavender sea fans make for very picturesque vistas.
Because the layout of downtown Playa is a rectangular grid, getting around is very easy. The main east-west street, Avenida Juárez, connects Highway 307 with the town square, El Zócalo, near the beach. As it does so, it crosses several numbered north-south avenues that run parallel to the beach, all of which, interestingly enough, are multiples of five. Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), the closest to the beach, is closed to traffic from the Zócalo to Calle 6 (and some blocks beyond, in the evening).
Almost the entire town is north and west of the town square, El Zócalo. The east-west streets parallel to Avenida Juárez are numbered Calle, with even numbers to the north of Juárez and odd numbers to the south. The other main east-west street Avenida Constituyentes is located where you would expect to find Calle 18. To the south of the downtown is Playacar a golf-course development of private residences and a dozen resort hotels.
There is something for everyone in Playa del Carmen whether adventurous or relaxing. There is natural and adventure parks like Xcaret, Xplor and Xel ha. You can either get to them by public transportation, which leaves you on the side of the highway only a few steps away from each park's private transportation or hired them as a tour online or on any tour provider which comes with private transportation.
Quinta Avenida, also referred to in English as 5th Avenue, is the main tourist thoroughfare in Playa. It is a pedestrian only, cobblestone lined street that spans from Av. Benito Juarez to 50th Street and beyond. Along 5th Ave. you will find a variety of restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping opportunities and various services. In Playa, nearly everything starts from this street.
Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is around one hour drive from town and it is one of the biggest protected areas of Mexico. It offers great bird watching, world-class snorkeling and a chance to get know the mangrove forests and maybe even spot a manatee. The reserve is famous for still having a healthy population of Jaguars, but you need to be extremely lucky to see one of those.
Ria Lagartos is another Special Biosphere Reserve at the North side of the Yucatan peninsula. This is further from Playa, so an overnight stay is advised. You can stay in one of the most relaxed fishing towns and see crocodiles and thousands of birds, including the famous American Flamingos.
