Bowling Green is home to Ohio's first utility-sized wind farm. In total, Bowling Green is home to four turbines that are each 257 feet tall. These turbines generate up to 7.2 megawatts of power, which is enough to supply electricity for some 3,000 residents. Located about six miles (10 km) from the city, the turbines can be seen for miles and have become a local attraction. At the site of the turbines, a solar-powered kiosk provides information for visitors, including current information on wind speeds and the amount of energy being produced by the turbines. DDBS activities will be held in Downtown Louisville, KY. Louisville has blossomed as a booming center for independent art, music and business. There are also several historical properties and items of interest in the area, including the Belle of Louisville, the oldest Mississippi-style steamboat in operation in the United States. The United States Marine Hospital of Louisville is considered by the National Park Service to be the best remaining antebellum hospital in the United States.

Let's Visit Bowling Green, OH
In this video, I head down to Bowling Green, OH where I view the downtown area as well as the central park about a quarter of a mile northwest of the SR 25 and SR 64 intersection. This video was filmed on October 22, 2011. Bowling Green is the next city south of Toledo along I-75 (technically Perrysburg, OH is in between). Although not shown in this video, Bowling Green is also home of the Bowling Green State University.
Correction: The church tower mentioned almost halfway in the video is actually the top of the Wood County Courthouse, one place I wish I would have covered in the video.
Fun Fact: Bowling Green defeated Temple 13-10 in their football game that day. Kickoff was about a couple hours after I left the area.

Charles Codding's wind turbines
Charles Codding, a professor at Bowling Green State University, explains how the wind turbines he built in 2009 work. He explains the patent for the motor and how the turbine can be used for other outlets of clean energy. Codding also explains the reason why the wind turbine never made commercial success as well as providing a comparison to the commercial wind turbines on Route 6 in Bowling Green that were built in 2003.
The wind turbines made at Bowling Green State University by Charles Codding and his students hasn't hit commercial success, as predicted in 2009, but the turbines are gaining popularity again with the Environmental Action Group's proposal for clean energy on campus.
Charles Codding, an engineering professor at the university, said the turbines never received the full testing they needed in order to be used and sold to the public.
The patent or license for the motor is in Codding's name, but is in partnership with the university because he is an employee. Since the patent was just for the motor and not the whole turbine, the turbines were not sold commercially. The generator can be used for wind, water, steam or air, Coddings said.
As far as future plans for the turbines, the Environmental Action Group has an interest in using the turbines on campus. The group also proposed that BGSU transitions to become a 100% clean energy campus. Today, the wind turbines are still sitting in Overman Hall, but have a use in the near future if the EAG choose to use the turbines and if the patent sells on it's own, Coddings said.
The wind turbines in Bowling Green, Ohio by Route 6 are much bigger than Codding's turbines but also produce more energy. The wind farm's turbines stand at 391 feet with the blade length at 134 feet. Each blade weighs 22,000 pounds and the stem of the turbine is a whopping 138,915 pounds. The energy produced by the turbines accounts for 1% of the energy used in Bowling Green. The total cost for the turbines stands at $8.8 million dollars, according to the Bowling Green Wind Farm Project pamphlet available at the wind farm on Route 6.
