Visiting the Bradbury Building in Los Angeles! It's free to get in, however, you cannot really explore anywhere inside. You cannot ride the elevators either. I would recommend saying you have a business meeting with one of the businesses upstairs in the building, then see if you can grab a free ride in the cool old-style elevators! ;)

Building in Los Angeles, California
The Bradbury Building is an architectural landmark in downtown Los Angeles, California. Built in 1893, the five-story office building is best known for its extraordinary skylit atrium of access walkways, stairs and elevators, and their ornate ironwork. The building was commissioned by Los Angeles gold-mining millionaire Lewis L. Bradbury and constructed by draftsman George Wyman from the original design by Sumner Hunt. It appears in many works of fiction and has been the site of many movie and television shoots and music videos.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977, one of only four office buildings in Los Angeles to be so honored. It was also designated a landmark by the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission and is the city's oldest landmarked building.

1990 Bradbury Building, Los Angeles CA
A visual tour of the Bradbury building I took with my Super 8 camera in 1990.
The opening shows water moving in a fountain at California Plaza. Also there is a billboard protesting at the time,
the introduction of Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants to China.
Seems silly today to protest that! The top corner office even had a fireplace. The
view from top corner also yielded the nice angle on Grand Central Market. Sorry about the dust, when I get a cleaner version I'll post it.

From the frozen landscape of Chicago we turn our view to sun drenched California. I was reading a crime novel called “Angel Flight” by Michael Connelly, one of the Harry Bosch stories. It takes place in Los Angeles and two of the key locations are historic spots in downtown L.A..
The murders takes place on Angel's Flight a narrow gauge funicular railway that runs for a little less than 300 feet. The original train connected Hill and Olive Streets, adjoining the Third Street Tunnel, in the Bunker Hill area. It operated from 1911 until 1969 when I was torn down for urban renewal. It came back in the 1990's refurbished using the same cars and station elements a half-block south from its original location. The world's shortest railway has carried an estimated 100 million riders.
Another key location is the Bradbury Building not looking like much on the outside. The inside though features The five-story central court features glazed and unglazed yellow and pink bricks, ornamental cast iron, tiling, Italian marble, Mexican tile, decorative terra cotta and polished wood, capped by a skylight that allows the court to be flooded with natural rather than artificial light, creating ever-changing shadows and accents during the day. At the time the building was completed, it featured the largest plate-glass windows in Los Angeles. It has been featured in countless movies & TV shows, most famously in the film Blade Runner.
UPDATE
Just came across this fascinating story about the birth of the Bradbury on the Dangerous Minds site.
For much more on the Bradbury check out this podcast:
Anyway the material in the film comes from two sources. The video is from a 1969 student film and the photos were taken in 1960 and come from The Library Of Congress. We can see the march of urban renewal as a whole block of buildings that in 1960 lined the left side of the train are gone in the video.

Get to Know Bradbury, California: Community Overview
I’m Tim Durkovic, president of the Durkovic Group with Douglas Elliman Real Estate. Welcome to this installment of “Get to Know Bradbury, California: Community Overview”.
Bradbury is a small city in the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles county. The city was founded by Lewis Leonard Bradbury, a gold-mining millionaire. The Bradbury name is known throughout Los Angeles, specifically because of the famous Bradbury Building in Downtown LA, commissioned by the family in 1893.
With a population of just over 1,000, the city has three distinct areas: Bradbury Estates which is a gated community consisting of 5 acre minimum estates; Woodlyn Lane, a gated community with 2 acre minimum lots, and the rest of the city which has lots ranging from 7,500 square feet to an acre. Known for its careful preservation of its serene rural setting, a large portion of the properties in Bradbury Estates and Woodlyn Lane are zoned for horses, and several ranches still exist today.
Bradbury has a unique reputation as one of the most exclusive and expensive neighborhoods in the country. In 2010, Forbes Magazine placed one of Bradbury’s zip codes, 91008, as the most expensive zip code in America. A few of Bradbury’s incredible estates have been featured on BRAVO TV’s Million Dollar Listing television series.
If you have any questions on this area or anything else real estate related, or if want any additional information please don't hesitate to call, text or email me at 310-738-8098 or tim.durkovic@elliman.com.
Film History at The Bradbury Building
The Bradbury Building is one of the most iconic interiors in the world.
It's been used in countless Hollywood films and music videos. Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar and Future have all filmed music videos here, and the sci-fi classic Blade Runner cemented it in film history.
