Písek Gate (Czech: Písecká brána), also called Bruska Gate (Czech: Bruská brána) is a former city gate of Baroque fortification of Prague, Czech Republic. Once belonging to the fortification section called Marian Walls (Czech: Mariánské hradby) it is located in K Brusce Street in the Hradčany neighbourhood, not far from Hradčanská metro station. Other sights in the vicinity include Royal Summer Palace or Villa Bílek. Nowadays Písek Gate is the only preserved gate of the city proper and one of four remaining of the whole fortification system (Tábor, Leopold and Chotek (Brick) gates are part of Vyšehrad Fortress).
The name has nothing in common with town of Písek in Southern Bohemia but it derives from a previous medieval gate which used to stand several hundred steps away, at Písek, a defunct suburb of Lesser Quarter (located approximately where Valdštejnská Street is today). This suburb together with the old gate was demolished in the 1620s in order to make space for then newly built Wallenstein Palace. The alternative name derives from the Brusnice (Bruska) stream, a tiny tributary of the Vltava River running along northern side of Prague Castle.
The gate was situated between bastions of St George and St Ludmilla. It was built as one of latest parts of Baroque fortification in 1721 by architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi after a design by František Vogot. Písek Gate serving northbound traffic was one of three city gates in the left bank part of Prague (the other were westbound Imperial Gate (Czech: Říšská brána) located in what is now Dlabačov Street and southbound Újezd Gate (Czech: Újezdská brána) in Újezd Street). During the War of the Austrian Succession in 1741 understaffed and weakly defended Písek Gate was where troops of Charles Albert, Elector of Bavaria and claimant to the throne of Bohemia, entered Prague. After the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 it was decided that fortified cities were no longer necessary and the fortification ring of Prague started to be gradually dismantled. The Marian Walls survived until the turn of 20th century when only fractions, including Písek Gate, were left. Thanks to a new road bypassing it, the gate was no longer considered an obstacle for growing traffic and remained standing. In 2000 - 2002 Písek Gate underwent restoration and was turned into a café and gallery; wedding ceremonies are held there as well.

When the Přemyslid dynasty settled on the current site of Prague Castle, the two castles maintained opposing spheres of influence for approximately two centuries. Like this the second seat of the Czech sovereigns was established on a steep rock directly above the right bank of the Vltava river, in the 10th century.[1] The zenith of Vyšehrad was during the second half of the 11th century, when Vratislav transferred his seat from Prague Castle, and the original fort was remodelled as a complex comprising a sovereign's palatial residence, church and seat of the chapter. The period of growth ended around 1140 when Prince Soběslav moved his seat back to Prague Castle.[2]
When Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV began to build the Prague Castle in its current dimensions in the early 14th century, the deteriorating castle Vyšehrad was abandoned as a royal home. Later the whole complex was renewed by Charles IV and new fortifications, with two gates and a royal palace were built, while the palace of Saints Peter and Paul awaited repair. At the beginning of the Hussite Wars, Vyšehrad was conquered and ransacked by the Hussites in 1420 and then again in 1448 by the troops of King George of Poděbrady. The castle was then abandoned and became ruined. It underwent a renovation in the 17th century, when the Habsburg Monarchy took over the Czech lands after the Thirty Years' War and remodelled it in 1654 as a Baroque fortress, turning it into a training centre for the Austrian Army, and later incorporated into the Baroque era city walls around Prague.
The present form of Vyšehrad as a fortified residence, with powerful brick ramparts, bastions and the Tábor and Leopold gates, is a result of Baroque remodelling. The Cihelná brána (Brick gate) is an Empire-style structure, dating from 1841. The main part of the Špička Gate, parts of the Romanesque bridge, and the ruined Gothic lookout tower known as Libušina lázeň (Libuše's Bath) are the only fragments that have been preserved from the Middle Ages. The Romanesque rotunda of St. Martin dates from the second half of the 11th century. The 11th century of Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, which dominates Vyšehrad, was remodelled in the second half of the 14th century and again in 1885 and 1887 in the Neo-gothic style.[2] Vyšehrad and the area around it became part of the capital city in 1883. The area is one of the cadastral districts of the city.
By the twenty-first century, Vyšehrad has become a public park that is a popular site for recreation and celebrations. For example, it is a popular place for Czechs to celebrate New Year's Eve

Courtyards of the Prague Castle.
According to Guinness World Records, it`s the largest ancient castle in the world. It occupies a surface area of around seven football fields. You can meet our president here, because the Castle is the official residence of the head of state.
This is castle`s main gate, Mathias Gate and we are on the first courtyard. It is flanked by huge, baroque statues of battling Titans. And you can see impressive changing of the guards here. The best time is at noon, when flags are exchanged and a brass band plays a fanfare from windows. Smaller changing of the guard takes place every hour on the hour.
And now, we are on the second courtyard with baroque fountain, well from the 17th-century with beautiful renaissance lattice work, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The Chapel houses unique permanent exhibition of the Treausury of St Vitus Cathedral. You can see a gold reliquary - or coronation - cross, as well as a cross with a fragment of Christ`s loincloth and many other impressive things. The entrance is from the third courtyard.
The third courtyard contains the Cathedral, granite monolith, statue of St George, the Golden Gate, and a mosaic of the Last Judgment. Enter the cathedral through the western door. Inside, the nave is flooded with colour from beautiful stained-glass windows created by eminent Czech artists. Granite monolith designed Joseph Plečnik and it is dedicated to the victims of First World War. Bronze statue of St George slaying the dragon is copy of 14th-century`s statue. The southern doorway of the cathedral is known as the Golden Gate, an elegant, triple-arched Gothic porch. Above is a mosaic of the Last Judgment from 14th century. Beneath Christ and six Czech saints, Charles the IV and his wife kneel in prayer.
St George Square is the plaza behind the cathedral, and the heart of Prague Castle. The Convent of St George was Bohemia`s first convent, established in 10th century, more than 1000 years before. It now showcases 19th-century Bohemian art. The Basilica of St George is striking brick-red facade adjoining the convent, established in the 10th century.
And now, we are on the George street. Off George St, along the northern wall of the castle, is Golden Lane.

The villa in Lány is a spectacular family residence located in the famous village. At first glance, the house captures the attention by its fusion of two contrasting features: the tasteful setting in the unique environment of the Krivoklát Forest and the luxurious, extravagant interiors.
The spacious 2007 manor was built with uncompromising attention to even the smallest detail. The structure itself consists of two wings - the main house intended for the owner's family, and a connected guest house. The central section contains a heated pool, a fitness area, and an open terrace with direct access to the carefully tended gardens. The main attractions of the ground floor are a glamorous bedroom, a spacious bathroom in lofty Versace style and a huge living room with kitchen and spacious dining area. The large, direct-access balcony offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding woods, as well as of the swimming lake with natural fountains one floor below. The natural slope of the large garden of some 2.5 acres enabled the architects to create several surprising features. Special prominence is given to the two trees which were a gift to the current owner from the President of the Czech Republic.
The social functions of the villa are catered for by the daylight basement, with its myriad choices for rest and relaxation. There is a home cinema, a custom bar in white brick, a pool table, a wine cellar, and a large dressing room and study. Approximately half of this floor is taken up by the guest apartment, which comprises a bedroom, bathroom, dressing room and fully equipped kitchenette. The outbuildings in the manor grounds consist of a three-vehicle garage with a separate driveway, two fully equipped gazebos, and a gardener's house designed for year-round habitation.

1. The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork , located in the Polish town of Malbork, is the largest castle in the world measured by land area.
It was originally built by the Teutonic Knights, a German Roman Catholic religious order of crusaders, in a form of an Ordensburg fortress. The Order named it Marienburg (Mary's Castle). The town which grew around it was also named Marienburg. In 1466, both castle and town became part of Royal Prussia, a province of Poland. It served as one of the several Polish royal residences, interrupted by several years of Swedish occupation, and fulfilling this function until Prussia claimed the castle as a result of the First Partition of Poland in 1772. Heavily damaged after World War II, the castle was renovated under the auspices of modern-day Poland in the second half of the 20th century and most recently in 2016. Nowadays, the castle hosts exhibitions and serves as a museum.
2.Mehrangarh Fort , located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is one of the largest forts in India. Built around 1460 by Rao Jodha, the fort is situated 410 feet (125 m) above the city and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. Inside its boundaries there are several palaces known for their intricate carvings and expansive courtyards. A winding road leads to and from the city below. The imprints of cannonball hits by attacking armies of Jaipur can still be seen on the second gate. To the left of the fort is the chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, a soldier who fell on the spot defending the Mehrangarh fort.
3.Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague, Czech Republic, dating from the 9th century. It is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. The castle was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room inside it.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying an area of almost 70,000 square metres (750,000 square feet), at about 570 metres (1,870 feet) in length and an average of about 130 metres (430 feet) wide. The castle is among the most visited tourist attractions in Prague attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually.
4. Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. It is notable for its long association with the English and later British royal family and for its architecture. The original castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror. Since the time of Henry I, it has been used by the reigning monarch and is the longest-occupied palace in Europe.
5. Hohensalzburg Castle (German: Festung Hohensalzburg, literally High Salzburg Fortress) sits atop the Festungsberg, a small hill in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Erected at the behest of the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg with a length of 250 m (820 ft) and a width of 150 m (490 ft), it is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. Hohensalzburg Castle is situated at an altitude of 506 m.

Today their mausoleums are visited with much reverence, such as the Hafiz Tomb. For fifty eight years, Ionic stonemasons, Babylonian brick makers, Median and Egyptian goldsmiths, worked in Persepolis, they created what was an indelible symbol of the Achaemenid Empire. The highest level contained the royal residences with living rooms, a fire temple and harem. Iran is still a land of desert, palaces and mosques, a country that is timeless, captivating and historic.
