Currency
Britain’s currency is the pound sterling (£), which is divided into 100 pence (p).
Scotland has its own pound sterling notes. These represent the same value as an English note and can be used elsewhere in Britain. The Scottish £1 note is not accepted outside Scotland.
There are lots of bureaux de change in Britain – often located inside:
• banks
• travel agents
• Post Offices
• airports
• major train stations.
It's worth shopping around to get the best deal and remember to ask how much commission is charged.

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK
Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:
If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.
If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).
Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.
European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.
If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.

LAKE DISTRICT WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY:
Another weekend spent photographing the Purple Sandpiper flock in the harbour within Workington.
The purple sandpiper is a medium-sized wading birds that is larger, stockier and darker than a Dunlin. It is mainly dark grey above and whitish below. It has a down-curved beak and short bright orange legs. In flight, it shows a thin white wing-stripe.
You can see purple sandpipers around the coast, particularly on the east coast north of the Humber. A good place to look can be around piers and groynes and also on stony beaches and mussel beds at low tide Bridlington is aseptically a great place to look.
A couple of pairs nest in Scotland, but this species is mainly a winter visitor to almost any rocky coast in the UK. Most are found in Orkney, Shetland and along the east coast of Scotland and northern England - it is scarce south of Yorkshire, other than Devon and Cornwall. The breeding areas in Scotland are kept secret to protect the birds from egg thieves and disturbance.
It is listed on Schedule 1 of The Wildlife and Countryside Act.

Ellis Family Antics visit the York Bird of Prey Centre. A wonderful day looking at and handling birds. The only truly hands on bird experience I know of in the North. Flying displays and helpful friendly staff add to the fun.

We Meet The Flamingo Land Family's Newest Member
Unsurprisingly, Flamingo's were the first animal Flamingo Land had as an attraction with some of the birds having been at the zoo since its opening back in 1959.
Whilst some of the Flamingo's have been there for nearly sixty years, some have only just arrived.
Late last year the zoo welcomed the latest addition to their Flamingo family and now she's fully integrated within the flock, our reporter Adam Goacher was allowed to go and see her.

The aviary for the Birds of Prey Centre is the converted orangery near the walled garden, a short walk from the hotel.
There are owls, hawks and falcons in residence and hotel guests can enjoy the sight of the birds being exercised every morning at the daily flying display (apart from on Tuesdays). This is open to all hotel guests and does not need to be booked in advance. This lasts 30 minutes and there is an optional donation Ł5 per room to the World Owl Trust.
