New Jersey to Bail Out Atlantic City With Short-term Loan
Atlantic City, New Jersey's struggling gambling hub, will get a short-term $40 million loan from the state rather than try to borrow the money in the capital markets this year. Even the city's originally planned $40 million note sale, now squashed, was itself a scaled back version of a larger bond issuance that was delayed amid uncertainty over the city's next financial steps. The city must repay the loan by March 31 at a 0.75 percent interest rate, according to the loan agreement, signed on Dec. 18 by Mayor Don Guardian.

1940s NEW JERSEY TRAVELOGUE ATLANTIC CITY ASBURY PARK TRENTON 20234 MD
This beautiful 1940s color film NEW JERSEY JOURNEY was produced by John Bransby Productions for the Esso Standard Oil Company at a time when the state's future seemed bright and limitless. The New Jersey of this era was a state on the move. It has shipyards (1:36), industrial areas (1:38), oil refineries (1:40), trunk line railroads (1:45), manufacturers (1:52), commuter trains (1:58), shipping (2:01), trucking (2:07), the Newark Airport (2:11), aerial skyways (2:21) of the New Jersey Turnpike, and the Camden Bridge spanning the Delaware River (2:38) and the Washington Bridge spanning the Hudson River (2:51). New Jersey is a land of beauty (3:03-3:44). Trout fly fishing (4:05-5:45) is maintained by fish hatcheries (5:49-6:42). Scenic byways wind through the Delaware Water Gap (6:49) and the rocky Palisades overlooking the Hudson River (6:59). The High Point Monument is on the highest peak of the Kittatinny Mountains (7:18). The Verdant Hills (7:59) overlook lakes (8:06) with beachgoers, swimmers (8:16), speed boaters (8:24), sailboats full of women in 1940s bathing suits (8:31), and sailboat racing (8:40-9:10). New Jersey’s nickname is “the Garden State” (9:20-9:59). A 1940 GMC 1 ton pickup is shown with a radio telephone (9:45). Lima beans are processed and packed within an hour (10:00-10:25), such as Seabrook Farms (10:27). Tomatoes go from field to cannery (10:30-11:00). At Plainsboro’s dairy farms (11:08), pedigreed bulls (11:20) use an electric exercise machine (11:30). Fruit trees include apples (11:50) and peaches (12:06). Flowers are an agriculture crop (12:13), including zinnias (12:31), roses (12:40), and orchids (12:49). Beachgoers lounge at Asbury Park (13:35). The annual baby parade attracts thousands (14:06-14:33). Red Bank hosts an annual inboard and outboard motor boat regatta (14:34-16-20). Take a scenic ocean drive (16:21) to Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island (16:44). Women in 1940s bikinis (17:04) visit the Cape May Lighthouse (17:09) at the southern tip of the state. Yachts take the structured waterways (17:15-17:57). Oyster farmers (18:01) collect and sell their finds from Delaware Bay (18:27). Eating a raw oyster is shown (18:46-19:02). Deep sea fishing is available (19:11-20:55). Ruins from the Revolutionary War dot the drive through the Pine Barrens region (21:09-21:49). Visit where George Washington crossed the Delaware in 1776 and the McConkey Ferry Inn (21:49-22:32). The Trenton Battle Monument (22:38) marks where Washington placed his artillery. The Princeton Battle Monument commemorates Washington’s victory there January 3, 1777 (22:58). In Morristown National Historical Park, Jockey Hollow housed the Continental Army for two winters (23:11). The Wick House (23:32) has been accurately restored. Morristown has a statue of Washington (23:50) that stands opposite his headquarters at the Ford House (23:52). Nassau Hall and Blair Hall still stand at Princeton University (23:58-24:23), as does the Memorial Chapel (24:23). There’s also Drew University (24:40), Saint Elizabeth’s Girls College (23:45), New Jersey State College for Women (24:50), and Rutgers (24:54), where agriculture is studied (25:15-25:46). Andrzejczak, Caride & Mazzeo on Bill to Help Preserve & Expand Cranberry Production in NJ (A-1958)
In this video press release, Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Robert Andrzejczak (D-Cape May), Assemblyman Vincent Mazzeo (D-Atlantic), Assemblywoman Marlene Caride (D-Bergen) and Stephen Lee III, the president of Lee Brothers, Inc., a cranberry farm in Chatsworth, NJ, discuss legislation that would ease some of the cost burdens for cranberry and blueberry harvesters in New Jersey.
Currently, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) considers any cranberry bog that has been un-harvested for five years to be abandoned. Reactivating a bog requires an Individual Wetlands Permit, which is extremely hard to obtain and can carry mitigation costs of up to $30,000 per acre, making it nearly impossible for multigenerational family farms to reactivate portions of their farmland that may have become dormant.
The bill (A-1958) would designate agricultural fields, such as blueberry fields and cranberry bogs, as “active” if any combination of crop production, maintenance, or renovation has taken place on the fields within five years. This move would significantly reduce the costs associated with New Jersey’s stringent environmental standards for anyone wishing to restart cranberry or blueberry production on existing fields.
In addition, the bill would provide that the lack of a commercial harvest or production of a crop on an agricultural field would not be a determining factor in designating the agricultural field as abandoned and, therefore, the DEP would be required to issue the necessary permits to any owner of an agricultural field that had previously been lawfully used for the production of cranberries or lawfully maintained or renovated for that purpose.

Rio Rancho golf course up for auction
200-acres are up for sale in rio rancho. it's the city's only golf course. and the city wants it to stay a green, open space. jill galus is here with what the city might do to make sure that happens. the chamisa hills golf course is currently listed for an online auction at the end of may. the minimum bid is set at 850- thousand dollars... but rio rancho mayor tom swisstack says whoever buys it, is going to need a whole lot more money than that to get it back up to par. even on a cold, blustery day... you can find kayla sunderman and her friends golfing. i live on the course and i've grown up here for a couple years now and it's kinda like a second home for me. it used to be one of the best in the state. BY THE looks of it now, you'd never know it. they need more water in a lot of places. walking around on this course you don't have to look too hard to see plenty of dry patches, a lot of areas, where there's not even grass anymore -- instead, it's dirt. An outside company did an appraisal of this course and estimated more than 3-million dollars worth of improvements that needs to be made -- the ground, just being one of them. THE CURRENT owner can't afford the water rates ... and they're going up again next year. the city is now considering stepping in to help...possibly buying the property. whoever buys it, whether it's the city looks into this as a possibility or whether it's a private vendor that buys this here, the issue is going to come back to the governing body to talk about water rates, and what we can do to adjust those water rates. but where else can you find 235- acres in the middle of the city? with a clubhouse, tennis courts and a pool... there's a lot more than just a golf course worth saving here. there's a variety of things that I think we should really look at before we just say no to get it back in shape I think it could definitely please a lot of people in rio rancho. we've been trying to contact the current owner of chamisa hills for days. we're told he's out of town. mayor swisstack says the sale of the golf course will be discussed during next week's city council meeting.

SUMMARY
=======
Cheeses in Mexico have a history that begins with the Spanish conquest, as dairy products were unknown in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. The Spanish brought dairy animals, such as cattle, sheep, and goats, as well as cheesemaking techniques. Over the colonial period, cheesemaking was modified to suit the mixed European and indigenous tastes of the inhabitants of New Spain, varying by region. This blending and variations have given rise to a number of varieties of Mexican cheeses. These are most popular in the country, although European cheeses are made, as well. Almost all cheese in Mexico is made with cows’ milk, with some made from goats’ milk. More recently, efforts have been made to promote sheep’s milk cheeses. Most cheeses are made with raw (unpasteurized) milk. Cheeses are made in the home, on small farms or ranches, and by major dairy product firms. Between 20 and 40 different varieties of cheese are made in Mexico, depending on how one classifies them. Some, such as Oaxaca and panela, are made all over Mexico, but many are regional cheeses known only in certain sections on the country. Some of the least common are in danger of extinction.

Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne | Audio book with subtitles
Around the World in Eighty Days (version 2) Read by Mark F. Smith.
Jules VERNE , translated by UNKNOWN ( - )
Mysterious Phileas Fogg is a cool customer. A man of the most repetitious and punctual habit - with no apparent sense of adventure whatsoever - he gambles his considerable fortune that he can complete a journey around the world in just 80 days... immediately after a newspaper calculates the feat as just barely possible.
With his excitable French manservant in tow, Fogg undertakes the exercise immediately, with no preparations, trusting that his traveling funds will make up for delays along the way. But unbeknownst to him, British police are desperately seeking to arrest him for the theft of a huge sum by someone who resembles him, and they will track him around the world, if necessary, to apprehend him.
This is an adventure novel of the first water, with wholly unexpected perils, hair-breadth escapes, brilliant solutions to insoluble problems, and even a love story. And can this be? - That he returns to London just five minutes too late to win his wager and retain his fortune? (Summary by Mark F. Smith)

Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling
Real men don't take guff from snotty kids. Neither does Disko Troop, skipper of the We're Here, a fishing schooner out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, when his crew fishes Harvey Cheyne out of the Atlantic. There's no place on the Grand Banks for bystanders, so Harvey is press-ganged into service as a replacement for a man lost overboard and drowned. Harvey is heir to a vast fortune, but his rescuers believe none of what he tells them of his background. Disko won't take the boat to port until it is full of fish, so Harvey must settle in for a season at sea. Hard, dangerous work and performing it alongside a grab-bag of characters in close quarters is a life-changing experience.
