Worcester By Bike Episode 6: Harvey Ball Conservation Area
For being New England's second biggest city, Worcester still offers up quite a bit of green spaces full of trees, wildlife, old rock walls and other interesting features. Complementing the city's network of parks is protected open space overseen by organizations like the Greater Worcester Land Trust and Mass Audubon.
When the city, Mass Audubon, and the land trust collaborated in 2007 to turn 15 acres of land off Granite Street owned by the family of Harvey Ball, inventor of the iconic smiley face, into conservation land, the vision was to create a link between the Blackstone Valley Bikeway and Mass Audubon's Broad Meadow Brook, a 400-acre swath between Massasoit Road and Granite Street that has become a hiking, snowshoeing, and nature exploration destination. And now that the Blackstone Heritage Corridor Visitor Center is open along Route 146 at the current terminus of the bike path, those connections make a lot more sense.
In Episode 6 of Worcester By Bike, we get a little lost looking for those connections, but end up on the right path, exploring the Harvey Ball Conservation Area and Smiley Face Trail.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
