Broken Bow History
Broken Bow was originally owned by the Choctaw Indian tribe prior to being settled by non-Indians. Growing around a lumber company started by two brothers, Broken Bow had a population of 1,983, just a decade after its incorporation in 1911. The city lies within the Little Dixie region of Oklahoma, an area originally settled largely by Southerners seeking a new start following the American Civil War with the population now at just over 4000 but the area attracts more than a million visitors per year.
The city of Broken Bow stands in a unique transition zone between the Red River basin and the Ouachita Mountains. While the Ouachita Mountains are sandstone ridges that are considered the roughest land in Oklahoma, the Red River basin is considered fertile.[7] North of Broken Bow is Broken Bow Lake, created by the United States Army Corps of Engineers by damming the Mountain Fork River.[3] The lake's creation forced Hochatown to relocate to its present-day location.
The Broken Bow Lake covers 14,220 acres (57.5 km2) and has 180 miles (290 km) of shoreline.[8] The lake contains small islands, bass and is surrounded by pine trees.[8]
The city sits at the foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains, a subrange of the Ouachita Mountains. the Kiamichi Mountains sit within Le Flore, Pushmataha, and McCurtain counties near the towns of Poteau and Albion.[ The Kiamichi peaks line up south of the Kiamichi River and reach 2,500 feet (760 m) in elevation.[ The range is the namesake of Kiamichi Country, the official tourism designation for southeastern Oklahoma.

FALL Cabin Trip - Broken Bow Oklahoma
We had a BLAST during our most recent cabin stay in Broken Bow, Oklahoma! This was our fourth time visiting Broken Bow and this trip was by far our most favorite. The cabin was perfect, clean, and the property around it was amazing. We hope to go back soon!

Our Review On The Property:
We were blown away with this property. The cabin was super clean and had everything we needed. It's a tiny place but for us the space was just right. We've stayed in tons of cabins over the years and Arabella has made it on our top 10 list.
Pros:
The property around the cabin makes Arabella such a treat. From the fire pit, to the hammock, to the hot tub (which was very clean btw), to the wonderful deck, and wooded areas we never felt the need to leave for entertainment.
While this is a smaller cabin they owners have left plenty of room for storage which I always appreciate. There's a nice closeted with shelves, room in the kitchen to put away your food, and open space in the bathroom as well.
Cons:
Truthfully with this property I can't say much as far as the cons go. The only thing that was a little a little bit of an issue was the amount of towels they provided. We had four people this trip but were left 3 towels which made for a cold walk from the hot tub to the shower for one of us but really it wasn't that big of a deal.
Also the comforter on the bed was the main cover to use. Typically with rental properties there is a second blanket under the comforter that gets washed after each guest. This is what you use to cover up with at night. There wasn't an option for that here. They did offer a flat sheet but I'm weird about using comforters at rental properties knowing that they are not washed after each guest. If this is something that gets to you as well I recommend taking your own blanket. If you plan to use the fold out couch you may need something more warm for the cooler months as the blanket they offer to this thin.
None of these were that big of a deal and didn't keeping us from falling head over heels in love with this property! If you're looking for a little space to get away I can't recommend Arabella enough!
Bald Eagle Sighting - Broken Bow Lake - 4 Seasons Guide Service
Another great fishing trip from Jerry Walthall and 4 Seasons Guide Service on Broken Bow Lake, Oklahoma.
This video was shot on a recent fishing trip where we got to see a beautiful Bald Eagle up close and personal. What a beautiful animal! The eagle was perched up on a nearby tree and we threw a fish out in the water and he swooped down, circling the boat multiple times and grabbed the fish off the surface of the water.
Our great day of successful and fun fishing with our expert guide, Jerry Walthall, was topped off with a spectacular display from the eagle.
