She rose to prominence as the frontwoman of the alternative rock band Hole, which she formed in 1989. Long-time tattoo artist pushes for stiffer laws
By: Donna Kirker Morgan
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania remains one of only a handful of states that does not require licensing of tattoo artists. A Chambersburg artist continues to push for legislation to change that and says it is more important than ever because the industry is exploding thanks to easy access to equipment.
Eric Von Dar has been operating a studio for 30 years in Chambersburg. He said he began his career as an apprentice, that involved learning how to actually make the dyes and create the tattoo needles. Those days are over he explained.
I think everybody, young people want to do it, he said. It's easy for them to have access to equipment, instead of back then, if young you wouldn't know how to get into it, Von Dar said.
That's because any quick search on the internet will get you a complete tattoo kit, ranging in cost from $25 to $50. This means all ages, even teens are trying their hand at tattoo artistry.
Last year, a teenager in Lebanon County was arrested after tattooing other teens, one as young as 13-years-old.
The only regulation in Pennsylvania is that tattoos cannot be done on people under the age of 18.
I think it needs to be watched over, not because of the artwork but because of safety. You are actually drawing blood, Von Dar said.
Von Dar is proud to be licensed in Virginia where he has another studio. He says it involves some fees and tests but it's worth it for protecting and reassuring clients.
Last session of the Pennsylvania House passed House Bill 1249 but it never went any further. It will have to start again in this year's legislative session. It would have required a $100 licensing fee.
Those who oppose the idea of licensing say it would reduce competition.
The Pennsylvania Medical Society and Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery are also pushing the state to license and regulate the body art business as many other states already do. Those agencies express concerns about the possible health consequences of an unregulated industry that uses needles.
As lawmakers debate, Von Dar encourages anyone using a Pennsylvania artist to check out their studio closely for how clean it appears. And don't be afraid to ask about their sterilization practices.
Cat Stevens
Yusuf Islam (born Steven Demetre Georgiou; 21 July 1948), commonly known by his former stage name Cat Stevens, is an English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, humanitarian, and education philanthropist. He is a prominent convert to Islam. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
Stevens' albums Tea for the Tillerman (1970) and Teaser and the Firecat (1971) were both certified triple platinum in the US by the RIAA. His 1972 album Catch Bull at Four sold half a million copies in the first two weeks of release alone and was Billboard's number-one LP for three consecutive weeks. He also earned two ASCAP songwriting awards in consecutive years for The First Cut Is the Deepest; the song has been a hit single for four different artists. Some of his other hit songs are Father and Son, Wild World, Peace Train, Moonshadow, and Morning Has Broken.

Rock Band 3
Rock Band 3 is a 2010 music video game developed by Harmonix. The game was initially published and distributed by MTV Games and Electronic Arts, respectively, in late October 2010. Mad Catz took over both roles and re-released the title on November 23, 2011. It is the third main game in the Rock Band series. As with the previous titles, Rock Band 3 allows players to simulate the playing of rock music and many other subgenres using special instrument controllers mimicking lead and bass guitar, drums, and vocals. Rock Band 3 expands upon previous games by including three-part vocal harmonies — previously used in The Beatles: Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band — plus support for MIDI-compatible keyboards, electronic drumkits, and even use of a real guitar in Pro mode.
Distinguishing it from all previous rhythm music games, Rock Band 3 features Pro mode, which is designed to accurately mimic playing of real instruments. In Pro mode, real guitar and bass players have to match specific fingering on frets and strings, drummers have to strike cymbal pads in addition to snare and toms, and keyboardists have to use precise fingering across the whole keyboard. MadCatz manufactured a 102-button controller with 6 strings meant for bass and for lead guitar Fender lent a real Fender Squier stringed guitar modified with built-in electronics and enhancements to support Pro mode. Real instruments and original Basic controllers can be played simultaneously in various combinations within the game to simulate playing in a real band. Before a song starts, the players choose which instrument they will represent within the song. If the right note is hit or played, it is heard in the audio. If notes are missed, they are not heard.
