Scott Ruske is a 1998 graduate of Liberty High School, Colorado Springs. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Colorado State University – Pueblo, Colo., in 2005. Scott is only the Fourth Army Reserve Soldier to earn the Silver Star medal for heroic service in the global war on terror, Sgt. Ruske was recognized for exceptional heroic actions when his platoon was attacked in the village of Afghanya, Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, April 21, 2008 when a superior enemy force attacked it with heavy grenade, machine gun and rifle fire. At the time of his deployment, Scott was assigned to 3rd Platoon, A Company, Task Force Gladiator, Combined Task Force 101.
Coffee and Conversation, 310: John Bole - Army Engineers, Iraq
Sergeant First Class John Bole has served with the Marine Corps, the Colorado National Guard, the Navy Reserve and was on active duty with the Army as a combat engineer, serving as a platoon sergeant with the 588th Engineer Battalion at Ft. Carson. He deployed to Iraq three times, once to Bosnia and to Korea.

Jimmy spent more than 15 years with the U.S. Navy SEAL Teams earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7). During that time, he earned Certifications as a Sniper, Joint Tactical Air Controller, Range Safety Officer and Master Training Specialist. He also served for 7 years as Protective Officer and Lead Instructor for the CIA’s Elite Global Response Staff (GRS), providing Protective Security Details for “High-Risk” and “Critical” areas overseas. Jimmy is the CEO of Able Shepherd, and the Director/Lead Instructor for the Active Shooter Response Training Center in Centennial, Colorado.
Coffee and Conversation, 323: Brian Richardson - US Marine Corps, Balkans & Iraq
Brian has had a most interesting career serving with the US Marine Corps and US Army 10th Special Forces Group in the Balkans and Iraq, and later serving as a contract Personal Security Specialist for the Department of State in Baghdad. More recently he and several veteran friends have started the company Origins Training Group in Colorado.
Coffee and Conversation, 408: Thomas L Fletcher - US Coast Guard, Vietnam
Tom Fletcher joined the US Coast Guard in June 1965. He served with the Depoe Bay Life Boat Station and later on the USCG Cutter Wachusett, stationed in Seattle, Washington. The Wachusett later deployed to Vietnam to provide gunfire support, smuggler interdiction and serve as mother ship for dozens of Navy Swift boats conducting river patrols.

North Metro Fire Invites Community to Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony and Open House
Northglenn/Broomfield, CO—North Metro Fire Rescue District and the Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum are joining together to host the 11th Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, June 13, in Broomfield. Following the ceremony, there will be an open house at the fire station and hot dog cookout. The event will be held at North Metro Fire Station 61 at 1275 Midway Boulevard beginning at 11 a.m. A joint honor guard from North Metro Fire and Broomfield Police Department will be a part of the ceremony as well as North Metro Fire Chief David Ramos and representatives from the Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum. A local bugler will also perform as part of the service.
“We’re grateful for this opportunity to partner with the Veterans Memorial Museum and honor our flag and its heritage,” said Ramos. “We invite all of our community members to come and join us in this patriotic ceremony. It’s especially a great opportunity for younger residents to learn how to respectfully retire our nation’s flag.”
District residents may take part in the ceremony by helping with the proper retirement of flags that have been collected throughout the community. After the flags have been retired, the District will host an open house, where residents can tour the fire station and enjoy a red, white and blue themed cookout to celebrate Flag Day, which follows on Sunday.

He trained as an Aircraft Electrical & Environmental Systems Apprentice with the 302nd Maintenance Squadron and as an Air Transportation Apprentice with the 39th Aerial Port Squadron under the 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson AFB, Colorado. Jim will talk about his USAF Reserve service and will include USAF uniforms, changes in USAF organization and operations.
