As we walked out for a walk in the dunes a strong wind suddenly came up. Thirty minutes later all was quiet again.

In this episode, we revisit a project shot almost 2 years ago. While the first draft was over an hour long, this final form compresses and emphasizes the fun, joy, and peace found in a 6 day hiking trip in Idaho to about 20 minutes.

A little back story:
I (Ben Lemenager) had started this project over 2 years ago for a documentary class I was taking, and while the originally pitched idea was not available to shoot at the time, this was a great exercise on remote shooting in the backcountry. The footage was shot in April of 2015, and I took about a year to edit it into a draft that sat about an hour long. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to story, and I didn't know how to part from all of the hard shots I captured and had fallen in love with. It took a better part of a year to let it continue to sit in the edit drive until enough projects had piled up that I needed to start clearing out projects. Finally, this project was back in my radar, and after the time apart from watching and editing it, I realized I could easily chop away shots that previously I held on to. This is a tough decision for someone who must not only direct, but film, and then edit their own work. Never the less, I present to you, the last draft of Hells Canyon, as a never ending project in revision. I had an amazing week filming this, and I hope the fun and enjoyment comes through in the edit!

Traveling from the Oregon welcome center to Bruneau Dunes State Park
In our two years of travel we have only stayed at one truck stop in our fifth wheel. We never stay places without at least partial hookups. We just aren't really set up for it. But on our trip to Alaska in the summer house, we got used to not having many amenities and we were without hookups almost the entire summer. And, We survived! So we decided we would stay the night at a rest stop on our way from Oregon to Idaho. It was a quick stop on our way through and they advertised that overnights are allowed for up to 12 hours. It was a great place to sleep on our way through, even with the trucks running all night long. A little white noise never hurt anyone.
