Buffalo ( /ˈbʌfəloʊ/) is the second most populous city in the state of New York, after New York City.[1] Located in Western New York on the eastern shores of Lake Erie and at the head of the Niagara River across from Fort Erie, Ontario, Buffalo is the seat of Erie County[5] and the principal city of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area, the largest in Upstate New York. Buffalo itself has a population of 261,310 (2010 Census) and the Buffalo--Niagara--Cattaraugus Combined Statistical Area is home to 1,215,826 residents.
Originating around 1789 as a small trading community near the eponymous Buffalo Creek,[3] Buffalo grew quickly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, with the city as its western terminus. By 1900, Buffalo was the 8th largest city in the United States,[6] and went on to become a major railroad hub,[7] and the largest grain-milling center in the country.[8] The latter part of the 20th century saw a reversal of fortunes: Great Lakes shipping was rerouted by the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway, and steel mills and other heavy industry relocated to places such as China.[9] With the start of Amtrak in the 1970s, Buffalo Central Terminal was also abandoned, and trains were rerouted to nearby Depew, New York (Buffalo-Depew) and Exchange Street Station. By 1990 the city had fallen back below its 1900 population levels.[10]
Today, the region's largest economic sectors are health care and education,[11] and these continue to grow despite the lagging national and worldwide economies.[12] This growth has been maintained, in part, by major expansions of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus[13] and the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York.[14] The retail sector of Buffalo's economy has remained strong throughout the economic recession due to additional revenue from Canadian shoppers who wish to take advantage of lower prices and taxes on the American side of the border. A recent study found Buffalo's August 2011 unemployment rate to be 7.3%[15] In 2010, Forbes rated Buffalo the 10th best place to raise a family in America.

Bak USA – Building a Future in Buffalo, NY
Produced by Buffalo Niagara Enterprise • Directed, Shot & Edited by John Paget
Bak USA is a manufacturer of low-cost PC tablet devices and mobile smartphones. Its philanthropically minded Danish founders, Ulla and J.P. Folsgaard Bak, formed the company to manufacture affordable devices for underserved countries and also to create jobs and a better life for their employees.
New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's START UP NY program, which offers a ten-year period free of state taxes, as well as personal income tax exemptions for employees, convinced Bak to establish their US headquarters in Buffalo, NY. Bak is partnering with the University at Buffalo for their Start UP NY program.
Bak hosted their grand opening January 15, 2015. Currently there are employees from 13 different countries working at the plant, which plays into the company’s dedication to nurturing refugees from other nations, paying workers a living wage, and embracing racial and gender equality. Students using Bak’s affordable PC tablets across the world benefit from the company’s social responsibility. And its Buffalo employees are assembling more than affordable high-tech devices – they are building a better future for themselves and their families.

BEYOND THE ROAD TO FREEDOM
The modern civil rights movement in the United States had its earliest roots in the Niagara region of New York State. In 1901 the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo offered both hope and despair for an aspiring African American community in the country's eighth largest city at the time.
Beyond the Road to Freedom, a New York Emmy Award winning documentary, revisits this history and also takes the viewer on the freedom trails through Western New York. It shows how the Buffalo Niagara region is bringing history alive through reenactments at authentic sites dating back to the days of abolitionism.

California to New York: A Complete Road Trip
This is a complete road trip compilation from Santa Monica, California to New York City over eight different days from June-September, 2017 - all recorded in time-lapse at 4fps (nearly 100,000 frames total). Of the 3,253 miles (5,235 kilometers) driven, about 3 miles of this drive is missing, mostly in Colorado near Poncha Springs. Nearly all of this drive was done in daytime, but there is about 10 minutes of this video done in darkness in Arizona (about 1:00:00 to 1:10:00). The weather was good for the most part, except from Pennsylvania all the way to the Bronx, before clearing up in Manhattan. This trip also includes driving through the solar eclipse of August 21 in Nebraska (at about 3:30:00), as well as driving over the old Tappan Zee Bridge in upstate NY, which permanently closed a month later with the opening of the new Mario M Cuomo Bridge adjacent to it.
The states passed through are
California (0:00:35-0:40:54)
Arizona (0:40:54-1:40:26)
New Mexico (1:40:26-1:41:09)
Colorado (1:41:09-3:07:17)
Nebraska (3:07:17-3:51:05)
Iowa (3:51:05-4:24:17)

Pennsylvania (5:40:48-5:47:09 & 6:04:43-6:32:49)
Maryland (5:51:52-6:04:43)
New York (6:32:49-6:50:03)
The highest elevation of the drive was 11,539 ft (3,517 m) at 2:28:10. The highest elevation anywhere on the U.S. interstate system is 11,158 ft (3,401 m) at 2:33:41. Both of these elevations are two of the three continental divide crossings; the other, at 2:04:38 (10,856 ft / 3,309 m), is the first.
The hottest temperature of this trip was 110 F (43 C) in Needles, California (about 0:40:16), and the coldest temperature of this trip was 53 F (11 C) in Tusayan, Arizona (about 1:10:04) - only about 230 miles (370 km) from Needles.
