World War 2 adventure in Singapore
The Bukit Batok Memorial is located on top of the tranquil Bukit Batok Hill upon which once stood two war memorials built by Australian POWs to commemorate the war dead of the Japanese and the Allies who fought during the decisive Battle of Bukit Timah in Singapore during the Second World War.
The two memorials were destroyed after the war and only the road and stairs that used to lead to them mark its legacy today.
On the night of 7 December 1942, in a solemn ceremony, the ashes of the Japanese war dead encased in white wooden boxes were brought to the foot of the long flight of steps leading to Syonan Chureito and ceremoniously carried up the torch-lit steps for interment inside a small shrine located at the top.
The words chu rei to was inscribed on its side which meant the sacrifice made by the fallen soldiers.
Bukit Batok accident: Eleanor, 4, given final send off with balloons, flowers, and angel-like wings
“Her smile. She was always smiling. She was always respectful, so all the elders in the family doted on her,” said Mr Ang, Eleanor's grandfather, as he spoke on what he would remember the most of his granddaughter.

Bukit Batok Nature Park is a 36-hectare (89-acre) urban park in Bukit Batok, Singapore. It is situated near Bukit Batok East Avenue 2, Bukit Batok East Avenue 6, and Lorong Sesuai.[1]
During World War II, a site at Lorong Sesuai was selected by the Imperial Japanese Army as a memorial for soldiers who had died. The two pillars and 120 concrete steps leading to a transmission tower are the only remains of the memorial. The significance and meaning of the location is conveyed to visitors through a plaque at the foot of the stairs. The park was later developed on an abandoned quarry site in 1988.
The peak of Bukit Batok Hill stands at an elevation of 107m above sea level. Temperature ranges from 23°C to 30°C during Winter/Wet season. During Summer, temperature ranges from 24°C to 33°C.

3 Haunted Parks to Avoid When Hungry Ghosts Roam Singapore!
During the seventh lunar month of the Hungry Ghost Festival, it's wise to observe advice from the folks.
Bedok Reservoir Park
Abandoned buildings haunt to the max. Bedok's most infamous ghost is the ex-wife of a guy who cheated, gambled and abused his family. She committed suicide after scrawling this bloody message on their apartment wall: It's not over, Darling. He remarried, but ex-wife-turned-ghost drove the second son to suicide.
Changi Beach Park
Changi Beach, one of the oldest coastal parks in Singapore. Undertake your beach run by day, not night, because as soon as the sun disappears, the eerie noises begin as Sook Ching massacre victims roam the beach in packs, screaming, crying and wailing. An estimated between 50,000 to 100,000 young Chinese men have been executed.
Bukit Batok Nature Park
This lush park welcomes joggers and nature lovers by the droves and there's a powerful World War II memorial plaque paying tribute to the fallen, but it's the ghost of a woman named Linda who died here as a result of being brutally assaulted. Her spirit, it seems, screams constantly in an effort to get someone to save her .

Bukit Brown (Part 4) : Heritage Cemetery Park vs Highways and Homes
In part 4 of our debate on Bukit Brown we look at the campaigners proposal of turning the cemetery into a Heritage park. They want to create something unique to Singapore . A cemetery heritage park would be different from a nature reserve and places like Botanic gardens. As KC Chew said “the graves can be cleaned up and preserved, because the graves themselves tell a very important story… the graves are like a living museum of tremendous information that has not really been known before.”
The graves are mainly Hokkien and Teochew and some have tremendous architectural merit. “Firstly, we don’t see these kinds of stones anymore… the different sizes, a lot of writing, there’s poetry, there are sculptures’”says Erika Lim from SOS Bukit Brown.
In the past 17 months more than 7000 people from all walks of life – community centres, schools, private groups – have been guided around the cemetery by an army of committed volunteers who are there every Saturday and Sunday come rain and shine..It’s impressive stuff. They are making a statement: Singapore’s heritage needs protecting. And Asst.Prof. Liew Kai Khiun believes that Singaporeans recognise the value of the site. “I think ..it’s part of our identity in a way that you have this eclectic mix between western and eastern that made up colonial Singapore”.
On top of the heritage value Bukit Brown has become a de facto recreation park. Everyday there are dog walkers, runners, walkers , cyclists and even horses can be seen being exercised from both the Polo Club and the National Equestrian Park. But is this enough to save Bukit Brown? Is the proposal strong enough? Tune in and decide for yourself.

Birding In Singapore | Bidadari Cemetery Singapore (Sabahan Youtuber Vlog)
In this video I go birding at Bidadari Cemetery (Malay) Perkuburan Bidadari. It is a defunct cemetery in Singapore. It used to serve the Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Sinhalese communities, and accepted burials between 1907 and 1972. The site of Bidadari Cemetery used to be the Istana residence of one of Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor's wives. By 2006, all known graves were exhumed to make way for development of the Bidadari Estate.
